Margo Kingston wants answers:

Funny, eh, that the only casualty so far of the refugee policy scandal triggered by Cornelia Rau is Labor’s now former immigration spokemsan Laurie Ferguson? When will Farmer be recalled, I wonder? Is the AFP investigating? When will officials be charged? When will Howard call the Royal Commission which Palmer’s report seems to me to scream for? When will Ruddock and Vanstone give evidence on the government’s role in treating ‘unlawful non-citizens’ as non-persons, ie as less than human? How can Ruddock remain Australia’s first law officer given his record as immigration minister? And why did Howard replace Farmer with Andrew Metcalfe, who had moved to Howard’s department after several years as a senior executive of DIMIA, including during the – you guessed it – children overboard scam?

These questions might best be answered in some form of people’s inquiry. Perhaps Margo could organise one.
