Bush Derangement Syndrome continues its cholera-like spread through the lower orders:
An unscientific poll of posters at a Democratic Underground discussion board yields a result that maybe isn’t so surprising: 72% of those responding say they are “dealing with severe mental illness in their home.”
So move, already.
- “So move, already.”
Yep, that’ll clear up the situation. Or not.Posted by Jim,MtnViewCA,USA on 2006 07 28 at 05:57 AM • permalink
- “Mental illness in the home.”
On which they no doubt blame… the home.

- #3 – When I initially saw the spooked911 “experiment” that shows burning “jet fuel” couldn’t cause a metal structure to collapse (ie 911 conspiracy wacko), at DU I assumed it was a joke. However, reading the thread it became clear that it wasn’t. They are just plain nuts and/or very stupid.
However, it did inspire me to follow in spooked’s steps. I proved the Apollo moon landing was a hoax. Good DU material in the Spooked911 tradition.

Most of the respondents probably mean by “mental illness” that they have a Republican in the family somewhere; they’re likely unaware of the ramifications of their own frothy-mouthed raving. Sanctimonious vipers.
- #9 I’m turning my attention to global warming with my next experiment. I’m going to breathe on a thermometer for a few minutes. My bet is that the extra carbon dioxide will cause a temperature rise, thus “proving” global warming. Spooked911 and DUers will love that methodology.Posted by Humblogger (the Younger) on 2006 07 28 at 09:02 AM • permalink
- #12 – a good point indeed. However, hugging trees is always insane.Posted by Humblogger (the Younger) on 2006 07 28 at 09:21 AM • permalink
- I hugged a tree once. You know, the ol’ curiosity thing. Besides, all the cute chicks were doing it.
Man, I got splinters in all the wrong places. Cant fool me into doing that twice.
Besides, you ever get up close enough to a hippy for a smell?
I think they are zombies. I smelled a zombie once, it smelled just like a hippy.

I reckon that must mean that 28% of these left loons are homeless.

- I did a bit of work at greylands mental hospital in Perth. It was quite an eye opener as I found most of the people there knew they were unwell and wanted to get better.
I did however form a theory of my own on how to spot a mad person.
They walk funny.
Its that simple.
High steps, shuffles or tip toes they all seemed to do it. I am awaiting my unfeasably large grant to study this in more detail, somewhere nice, by the beach.Id be guessing that the DU convention would look more like the ministry of silly walks than anything else.

- Let me guess…the No 1 mental illness is Bush Derangement Syndrome…
In other news, I can report from Blighty that the entire country is suffering from mental illnesses – ranging from hating ‘MeriKKKuns to hating Joos. I am actually yet to meet anybody here who thinks Israel has a right to self-defence.
Case in point. Last night I had a drink with several apparently intelligent people who tried to argue that because Britain didn’t attack Dublin in the 70s, Israel should not attack Beruit. I mean WTF!?
The historical ignorance of these people is truly astounding. When I pointed out that the IRA, as much as they were murdering pricks, didn’t want to annihilate Britain (as opposed to H.A.M.A.S & Hizb’allah’s designs re: Israel), they looked at me as I was from f*cking Pluto.
The icing on the cake was the claim that Australia and the USA have never been invaded, so we naturally couldn’t understand the fine points of nuanced diplomacy. My nuanced response: Um hello…when was the last time Britain was invaded?! 10-f*cking-66!!
They then tried to change tact by saying that Australia and the USA have never been attacked or threatened with invasion. Never heard of air attacks Darwin, Townsville, Wyndham, Broome and Derby or the Battle of the Coral Sea or Pearl Harbor or 911 (which, of course, was a neocon plot and the septiKKKs deserved it anyway). Nor did they care. Facts? Dem useless fings dem facts.
Then some dickweed said that the attack on the King David Hotel proved that Joos were the originators of creating a state through terrorism…so they’re just getting their own back. At which point I had to go to the dunny and punch the wall.

Especially funny considering the fact is the last time the US mainland was invaded, it was by the British. They started by bombarding Detroit—which surrendered to them—and burnt a lot of Washington, DC. They even tried to take New Orleans.
Yeah, it was almost 200 years ago, but it’s more recent than nearly 1000 years!
(FWIW, the Japanese occupied a handful of the Aleutian islands.)

- I recently, unfortunately, left a colleague in tears because I vigorously contested her stand on forcing Israel into a cease-fire because ‘innocent children’ were being killed. I kept trying to answer her emotion-laden arguments with logic, fact, etc. I, of course, evcentually got a little emotionally charged myself, which led to the tears.
Personally, I don’t like being called a heartless bastard (even though I am) even indirectly (say it directly, damnit!) just because I believe in the right to self-defense and that instigators may well deserve what they get.
This colleague was also among those predicting ‘a bloodbath’ when the state law changed to ‘must issue’ concealed carry laws. Didn’t happen.

- Murph, I feels for ya! I haven’t had to deal with that level of numbskullery, but I’ve been known to deal sharply with people who misrepresent the GWOT. This being a small town, I expect word got around.
FWIW, the Japanese occupied a handful of the Aleutian islands.
OT, but I highly recommend The Thousand-Mile War: World War II in Alaska and the Aleutians on this topic.

- Mr. Humblogger, Jr. I cannot thank you enough for the link. Made my day. Best laugh of the whole week. I’ve visit the sight again, many times.
It is so sad to see the decline of fall of the British people. They resided over the birth of some of the most important ideas mankind has ever discovered.
Unfortunately, they also institutionalized some of the worst ideas. The worrisome part is that we are marching down the same road.

Kee-riste paco, don’t use that word around Prius owners! I’m still taking oatmeal baths to soothe the wire brushing I got on that subject a week ago!

Read it when I was a kid. Great book. If you can, find a book on the First Special Services Force—a join US-Canadian force made up of Canadian volunteers and US jail-house sweepings. They were involved in the Aleutians campaign. Truly incredible group of men.

That poll was every bit as ‘scientifical’ as the DU’s reality-based worldview.

Humblogger:
I’m [really] afraid I must dissent from the general scientifical concensus. I tried to replicate your results on a hot day and ended up proving that Co2 actually caused global cooling…Whereupon a Gorentologist immediately clocked me upside my head with a hockey stick.
Dissent sucks…
