Confronted by the UN’s might, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is holding his nerve somehow:
Iran has ignored a UN Security Council call to suspend all nuclear fuel enrichment, a report by the head of the UN’s nuclear watchdog has concluded.
Mohamed ElBaradei’s report said that Tehran had done little to answer questions over its nuclear intentions.
The UN wants the research halted amid Western fears – denied by Iran – that Tehran might develop nuclear weapons.
US Ambassador John Bolton said he would now push for Iran to face mandatory UN demands to stop its nuclear work.
There exists the faint possibility that Iran may not comply with any UN demands. What then, UN? Will a scowling be launched? Going to back up your demands with some smashmouth finger-waving? Could it be time for Kofi’s expression of deep concern, outlawed under the Geneva Convention because of the paralysing giggling fits it induces?
- Me, I was hoping for some stern words from the UN. Kofi does those so well.Posted by The_Real_JeffS on 2006 04 29 at 09:53 AM • permalink
- Any UN fat cats spotted hanging around the food for oil offices yet??
Koffi’s boy needs a new pair of yatchs!!Posted by thefrollickingmole on 2006 04 29 at 10:46 AM • permalink
- That should read “there seems”-whatever-yadda, yadda and yadda.
The UN will never do squat. No, that’s not the case actually. They are doing a great deal. Iran is playing them like a musical instrument. The UN equivocation will actually allow Iran to complete their nuclear program.
The same will be true for any EU “action”.
If these clowns can’t even place the term “genocide” within a few words of Darfur why would anyone(body) expect them to do anything with a complex issue like Iran?
- Oh my god Tim. Can’t you understand the import of this sentence:
US Ambassador John Bolton said he would now push for Iran to face mandatory UN demands to stop its nuclear work.
The key word is “mandatory”. Iran has no choice but to comply then. You will eat your words when Iran cows down to the onslaught of that mighty word.

No, no, none of that. Hey, I know, how about if the UN puts Iran in charge of its Disarmament Commission? Yeah, that’s the ticket.
The day before, the UN’s Disarmament Commission elected Iran’s Mehdi Danesh-Yazdi as one of its three vice-chairs. “The continued existence of thousands of nuclear warheads in the stockpiles of the nuclear-weapon States, which could destroy the entire globe many times over, and the increasing resort to the threat of their possible use, are the major sources of concern with regard to global peace and security,” Danesh-Yazdi said, adding that Israel was required to place all of its “clandestine nuclear facilities” under UN nuclear watchdog supervision. link
Iran has already announced its plan to acquire 3000 more centrifuges (it’s estimated they could produce three bombs a year with that many centrifuges). How about if we make sure those shipments never arrive? Won’t solve the problem, but it would put a major crimp in their plans.

- Richard, I have an OT technical question: How do you link to something mid-page? Your link above take us straight to your comment by virtue of the “116322”, right? Where did you get that info?Posted by Kyda Sylvester on 2006 04 29 at 03:18 PM • permalink
- Kyda — Two ways: You can use the secret Windows functions which minions are given access to as a cherished reward for good service by our Dark Master Karl… or you click on the “permalink” button and link to that URL. Take yer pick.Posted by richard mcenroe on 2006 04 29 at 03:57 PM • permalink
- Ya know, I’m not sure I’ve ever even noticed that each comment has a permalink (doh!). However, it can be done even without the permalink. Do you know how?Posted by Kyda Sylvester on 2006 04 29 at 05:36 PM • permalink
- Kyda, you can right-click (of course, no lefties here!) the permalink in the destination post to which you wish to link, and “copy shortcut”; then paste into the pop-up from the “Link” pmcode button in the post from which you wish to link.
The USN has been actively pursuing littoral (as opposed to “blue water”) warfare strategies since 1992. I believe this (and the latest UAV technology) will form the core of a “Stand Off” strategy to enable a two-front war in the Gulf.
An interesting link.
There will be no invasion of Iran.

VIA
And I’ll be God Damned as “Charlie” put this the Ahmadeij(ih)ad site may be real.
No comments…but WE can email the crazy fuck….:).
- Thanks, MentalFloss; as soon as I figure out what you said, I’ll give it a try (and “littoral” is a new word in my vocab so thanks for that, too).Posted by Kyda Sylvester on 2006 04 29 at 09:14 PM • permalink

Have you taken a real close look at pictures of Nagasaki, Japan BEFORE and AFTER the Atom Bomb?
Have you taken a real close look at pictures of Hiroshima, Japan BEFORE and AFTER the Atom Bomb?
You have said “we don’t give a damn”. I would suggest you look closely at the pictures of the ONLY two cities SO FAR, that have been radiated. You may be looking at the future of your nation, should you choose to initiate such weapons being used.
- How considerate of the president to have his site in English (or a reasonable facsimile).
“Today, Iranians are not the only people to be pleased with the country’s mastering peaceful nuclear energy. Leaders of many countries told us that victory of the Iranians is victory of all states. “A nation that achieved peaceful nuclear energy despite sanctions, is capable to defend it.”
What’s that supposed to mean?

- Well, double dip me in a vat of purple puke, but the site El Cid noted above has a piece on Littoral Combat Ships unveiled at San Diego.
Does this make me an acolyte pre-pundit? a possible recruit for RWDB status?

- Who cares!
Iran is a timebomb.
Let it tick.
According to the Australian (have you noticed how the Australian has got sensible these days and rags like the Courier Mail have sunk to Beattie and Leftie c-sucking) opines that the US will not presently act on Iran.
Iran can tick away.
Their nuclear capacity will be directed at proximate targets (vale Israel- that’s history for you, circa 2010)
When it happens all Hell will be let loose.
The ultimate Aim is for the Middle East Oilfields to come under permanent Western control so that we don’t end up paying $50 a litre to drive to our local Coles supermarket to pick up a fuel voucher and (incidentally) something to eat.Who said that whatever wankers sit on top of the Earth’s resources at any particular point of time in the history of life on Earth, have some of God given right to what lies underneath their sands. The Big Shibboleth of History. Hopefully that will be rectified in due course (shades of German ambitions in the past, but this time God is on the side of the Mighty and the Great- aka the Younited States of America).
So let history roll on.
Only blind Freddie knows not where we are headed.
I say to the US.
Keep up your nuclear capacity and find an excuse to have forward missile sites close to Iran for effective and immediate action. What!!!! Iraq a permanent forward US missile base. Of course. What else. The rest is blinding rhetoric to fool the idiots on the Left.

If you’ll take a look at your map of Iran, you’ll note a large body of water along its southwestern border. It’s called the “Persian Gulf,” more out of courtesy and tradition than anything else. It might just as well be named “Trident Gulf.” It’s been a forward US missile base for a long, long time.
