Mohammed and Omar hug the box:

I walked forward to my station, cast my vote and then headed to the box, where I wanted to stand as long as I could, then I moved to mark my finger with ink, I dipped it deep as if I was poking the eyes of all the world’s tyrants.

I put the paper in the box and with it, there were tears that I couldn’t hold; I was trembling with joy and I felt like I wanted to hug the box but the supervisor smiled at me and said “brother, would you please move ahead, the people are waiting for their turn”.

Yes brothers, proceed and fill the box!

These are stories that will be written on the brightest pages of history.

And they’ll be written in purple ink.

    1. Tim, I think it’s amazing that the UN is advertising on your site!

Still, their taking credit for no one ever again taking 100% of the vote in Iraq is pretty rich, but at least it’s in keeping with their history of doing f*** all (or even worse) and then taking the credit afterwards.

    1. Too bad they don’t ink the middle finger: then the voters could send a special picture postcard to Paul McGeough, et al.

    1. Tonight’s PM made an attempt to cast doubt on the turnout.
They deserve the purple middle finger – and often!

    1. The story floating around here is that on election day, many Iraqi’s were seen giving Coalition patrols “the finger”…..the purple finger, that is, with a big smile to go with it!

  1. No picture, but I know everyone will enjoy this bit from Lileks today.  I include the money quote (because I’m all about the convenience):

“And then someone posts the picture of a woman proudly holding up the purple finger with the expression that somehow says I, a person of humble birth, just gave the king a prostate exam… and I kept my hand packed in ice allllll last night.
