Australian Alan Jones won the world F1 championship 27 years ago; his number that year was 27; Australian Casey Stoner’s number this year in the world MotoGP championship – which he currently leads – is 27.

    1. And I’m 27 years old and if you turn 27 upside down it looks a bit like ‘LZ’, and ‘LZ’ sounds like ‘Lazy, which I am sometimes! Frankly this numerolgical stuff is uncanny.

    1. I was twenty seven once.

    1. I used to be 27, too. Now I’m … changing the subject. Has anyone read a good book lately?

Speaking of books, how did your book drying go.  Were you able to salvage most of your books?

    1. If you subtract 80 from the projected high of 107 today here in Tucson you will get 27.  This is really easy.

    1. An interesting coincidence, Mr. Blair. I wish Mr. Stoner the very best of luck.

    1. I hope you didn’t put the mocka* on him so that he ends up finishing 27th, Tim.

*Did I use that Strine-ism properly? My Aussie china used it once in reference to jinxing a sports team.

    1. #4, yojimbo, I learned a lot about salvaging books these past two weeks. Electric fan heaters do the job if you can fluff out the pages. Unfortunately, the insurance company will still be paying us $8,500 for the volumes we couldn’t save. They were our best books, of course, the ones we should have had up on the top shelves.

      Such is life.

    1. Thank you Tim for posting about Casey Stoner – he’s only 21, and leads the Moto GP by 26 points

Being a huge car and bike racing fan, I just love the way this young Aussie is winning!

      Go Casey!

As for Aussies – watch out for Marcos Ambrose who’s doing his bit for OZ in the NASCAR

      Brrrrm brrrrmm

    1. #9 Thanks, egg_. He was talking over the phone, so I typed it phonetically from memory. (Thanks for the site link, too.)

    1. No degrees of separation in the Hunter. Casey Stoner lives next door to my cousin, his trainer is the son of a sailing mate (sadly now dead), the trainer sails on the same yacht as our son. That’s Newcaste.

    1. Twenty-seven is my lucky number.  I was born on 12/15, my dad always jokingly lied about his age – he said he was 27 of course – and that’s just the tip of the iceburg… lettuce… and tomato… sandwich shop girl scout cookies and cream -Aaaaaah!  A word association attack! – corn dogs breath freshener – Aaaaaaaaah!

    1. 2 + 7 = 9.  9 was a magical number to the ancient Celts.  There are Celtic people in Australia.  Coincidence?

    1. If you take all the numbers in the Bible, divide by 43 (Richard Petty’s number, he was blasphemously called the “King”), you get 27, which tells us that Casey Stoner is the Antichrist.

    1. 27 also equals 9×3 or 3x3x3.  In fact, the numerals in any multiple of nine add up to nine or a multiple of nine.

      It IS a magical number.

Richard Petty was the second coming of Christ, only most people missed it.

Had the same problem after cyclone in Darwin in about 1998. Lost a mint copy of How to Win Friends and Influence People, first edition 1937 (I think)

Didn’t get the chance to read it. Probably why I’m still such a prick.

  1. For Casey to be that far ahead of Pedrosa and Rossi demonstrates an awesome talent – those guys are amoung the best of all time.  They predicted he would fade in Europe, but he just keeps winning.  Especially good in the wet.  And such a nice bloke as well.
