Margo Kingston has returned to Webdiary. Stand-in editor Harry Heidelberg – whom you’ll recall from outbursts such as this – isn’t impressed:
I have never been less interested in anything I have read in this forum. I certainly wouldn’t have any interest in commenting on Iraq or any of the pet topics of Webdiary. During my period as guest editor I went through the motions of reading and partly editing nonsense. I did that because I had to. My only marginal interest was in marginal topics that marginally interested me. The rest of it from both sides is mainly crap. I will never do this job again.
Oh, my! And this catastrophic split occurs just as Margo’s new site is finally launched. Marty K celebrates.
- Heidelberg’s point about going through the motions editing nonsense is revealing: imagine how hard it must be to edit Margo’s gibberish. Working in a Chinese coal mine would be more fun.Posted by J F Beck on 03/21 at 11:52 AM • permalink
- Maybe Margo will ban Harry. One can hope.Posted by The_Real_JeffS on 03/21 at 12:13 PM • permalink
- Looks like Clem Kadiddlehopper may be marginalised by the substantial minority of Margo; its all about framing the language in the context of reduction activism;
The Left in America are rediscovering the language they previously used that has now been captured by the Right to distract people from voting for their own economic interests. Its time we in Australia relearnt the art of FRAMING THE DEBATE.
- Heidelberg does have a talent for bringing people together. 🙂Posted by mythusmage on 03/21 at 01:04 PM • permalink
- New site, eh…just when you thought Ted Rall had the market on badly drawn gibberish-like cartoons all sewn up…Posted by Wind Rider on 03/21 at 01:57 PM • permalink
- Ahh Mr. Blair, Harry Heidelberg was JOKING.
Regular readers of Webdiary are more than familiar with Harry’s extemely dry sense of humour.

- Margo had this to say:
Forum posts and comments will be moderated, also in the tradition of Webdiary, and there will be rules to preserve a safe environment at the same time as freedom of speech.
I wonder if all the umbrage directed towards Tim and Andrea will be directed to those denizens of democracy in Margolia? Its like something out of Team America, “Democracy, F@#R yeah!”
This is better than Monty Python.
- I visited WebDiary after the “unusual words” thread. I felt like a walk-on part in Aria da Capo . What a surreal corner of the internet…Posted by richard mcenroe on 03/21 at 09:56 PM • permalink
- Says Hamish:
“It does concern me when the sometimes high-pitched ‘Howard is not Hitler’ is used as a screen for the uncontroversial historical phenomena of social democracies unfolding in increasingly totalitarian directions.”
So it’s now shrill hysteria to not suggest Howard=Hitler.
And I’m wondering if we’re surrounded by fascism. It lies just outside the wrapping. Unless something can be unfolded in one single direction.
I nomimate this as their slogan:
Make I Thappen!
- Hamish Alcorn allegedly spent 12 months working on Margo’s new site. And this is where it’s led (from the comments box):
thanks hamish

But can you shed any light on why my paragraph breaks are disappearing in the first place?I’m simply pressing ‘return’ after each para, nothing arcane or extraordinary.
Hamish: no idea. Anyone?
I like underscore’s slogan submission (Make I Thappen!), but I think Hamish has gone one better.
Thus, I nomimate this as their slogan:
No idea. Anyone?

Yeah, it’s right up there with Margo’s professional standards of writing. And here I thought the VRWC had the monopoly on sarcasm and wit.
