But nobody seems to care. In other double-standard news:

The United Nations called for an indoor smoking ban on World No Tobacco Day while not enforcing a ban on smoking at its own headquarters.

    1. Denouncing make-believe torture by the “evil BusHitler regime” is perfectly safe from any consequences (other than the loss of credibility). Denouncing real torture by international terrorists would make these ever-so-brave diplomats and media drones targets for said terrorists.

    1. While the jihadists put videos on youtube hoping for the attention they deserve.

Lefties make unsubstantiated ramblings about black ops which if there was any proof they would have swamped the New York Times.

      Lefty ranter here,

    1. What, you don’t actually expect the lords of the UN to obey the same laws they demand us serfs follow, now do you?  They are our betters, and thus need different rules.  We peasants should just be quiet and tend our lord’s manor.

    1. All in favor of declaring a “UN Keep Your Big Mouth Shut Day”, say aye!

    1. I can but quote P.J. O’Rourke on this:

“Use of bilingual signage in English and French gives the corridors of the UN a sadly Canadian air. One widely posted warning reads ‘Smoking discouraged/Veuillez eviter de fumer’, and that says it all about the United Nations, its power and its might.”

    1. An indoor smoking ban?  Heck, we already have that in Ohio.  Since last winter or so, smoking has been banned in restaurants, bars, and I believe any commercial establishments.  Most office buildings had already banned smoking, even on parking floor. Now with the recent law changes, they can’t even stand outside near the door.  They have to smoke WAAAAAYYYYY from the door.

I don’t how, but I’m sure Bush is at fault.

    1. Tell me again, why are we still part of the UN?  That’s the part I can’t get my head around.

Smoking ban?  The Arabs in that building would go jihad up First Avenue and 42nd Street within a day.

I’m not a smoker, I don’t like being around cigarette smoke, but this pisses me off. Why? Because it was only the start of the state’s nannying.

I can’t grill on my deck anymore. The state fire code says you can’t have open flame within 10’ of a flammable structure, like a deck. Mind you, people still have gas stoves, and can spread candles around their homes with impunity, but I can’t grill a fricking brat.

In fact, a strict reading of the fire code says that having my grill sitting on my deck is a violation.

    1. Typical, real torture of innocents, not a sound from the media. Waterboard an acknowledged terrorist mastermind potentialy saving hundreds of lives and the media carries on as if you’d nuked a gathering of buddhist monks while simultaneously drowning a couple of hundred Polar Bears.

As for the UN and smoking, frankly there’s a good percentage of people over there who deserve to have their life shortened.

    1. Well, to be fair, eye-gouging really isn’t on a par with the psychological horror of putting panties on a jihadi’s head, or the disrespect and dishonor involved when an infidel touches a Koran.  Let’s try to keep some perspective people.

Hypocrisy from the UN!  I’m shocked.  I need a brandy.

    1. #4 Paco. Aye, aye, sir.
If we can make sure the mouths are kept shut with gaffer tape and a set of vice-grips used to keep the nostrils closed, it won’t take all day to permanently fix the problem. I suggest about half an hour to be sure.

    1. #15: Plus, the problem stays fixed! Great suggestion, Skeeter.
