Reader tabmow notes showbizzy dizziness from touring Pink Floyd songwriter Roger Waters:

I saw him on the 7.30 Report last night he referred to Hicks as “that kid in jail in America”.

Ha, ha! Stupid rock guy! How embarrassing for him! Everybody knows David Hicks is locked up in Guantanamo … including Roger Waters, in fact, as a check of his 7.30 Report interview reveals:

ROGER WATERS: They haven’t whittled it away. They’ve taken the whole thing and thrown it out the door and said “We’re not interested in it any more. Life is too dangerous for us to live by the rule of law.” You have it here at the moment with the kid, what’s his name, in Guantanamo?

SCOTT BEVAN: David Hicks.

ROGER WATERS: David Hicks, right.

Tabmow appears to specialise in almost-believable claims that don’t check out. He might have better luck with TerryLane.

    1. Stick to the music, Rog.

You never were anything without Gilmore, anyway .. and I always liked Dave best.

    1. For his Australian shows, the musician intends to daub his famous flying pig with the message “Bring David Hicks Home”.

He’s right. We want Dawood home when pigs fly.

    1. Scotty Bevan,

Wish you were here. You and Roger Waters just missed the dark side of the moon. The prawns have started running on the Myall.

    1. Cut Waters some slack.  With an ego as huge as his, there’s probably little energy left over for any other kind of brain activity.

As for his former bandmate, his name is “Gilmour” and he hates being called “Dave,” and is only less politically toxic than Waters by virtue of keeping his pie-hole shut most of the time.  His website endorses books about global warming and journalist George Monbiot, of all the bleeding idiots.

    1. O/T –  #8 mareeS –  Back in Oz after a few years up in China and staying in Newcastle.

Your mention of Myall Lake prawns evoked many happy and delicious memories of ice boxes full of beer and 10lb [in the old] of prawns amid heaps of boats at the opening of the season.

Does any reader know if the Newcastle fish co-op sells them in season?

The Myall prawn is the best prawn I have ever eaten and I’ved cleaned up many platters in many places over many years.

I don’t know.  I fell for it.  Thankfully, on this side of the blogosphere there are people like Tim who correct the record.

    1. People like Hicks or Taliban Johnny should just be happy that we are a bit more civilized than say my parent’s generation.  My Taliban Johnny was captured in Afghanistan, my mother called to tell me that if I ever did anything like that, I should hope the military got to me before she did.

    1. I’ve long loved the music, there’s no need to listen to the amateur political posturing of the people who created it. Musicians are mostly dumbo lefties because music is an art form that relies exclusively on emotion and imagination, not intelligence, knowledge or rational thinking. Ignorant, feel-good leftist slogan-think is perfect for musicians as it’s a default, no-effort political stance that won’t get them into trouble with their peer-group and won’t make them get out of bed before 11 am.

Those with luck and talent like Waters became famous millionaires, though they don’t get any smarter as their bank accounts expand, and everyone becomes interested in their opinions the same way they’re interested in their hairstyles and who they’re screwing. This gives them the weird idea that what they’re saying is VERY IMPORTANT and all those idiots who actually have real jobs like running governments and economies or fighting difficult wars need to STOP RIGHT NOW WHAT THEY’RE DOING AND LISTEN TO ROGER HE PLAYS GUITAR, CAN YOU PLAY GUITAR, MR. BUSH? I DIDN’T THINK SO.

The vast majority that don’t make it end up selling office furniture.

    1. We are to scared to live by the rule of law?  Seems to me if that were the case, Hicks would be quietly dead somewhere and nobody would know.

If we treat him as a POW, then he can be held until the conflict is over, without trial (unless he commits a crime while in custody or is accused of war crimes).

Warfare is not a catch and release program, although many Gitmo detainees have been released.  Why doesn’t Waters go to Afghanistan or Iraq and look some of them up, asking them to appear onstage with him?  Write their names on his inflated pig.

    1. Someone should call the Fletcher Memorial Home and see if they’re missing anyone…  I actually do still listen to Pink Floyd quite a bit, but pretty much everything between The Wall and Roger Waters’ departure from the group is unlistenable “My life sucks” trash.  There was a bit of decent stuff after Roger Waters left, but not much.

    1. Well Vexorg, if you want depressing stuff, listen to Waters’ solo stuff.
