The ABC’s Media Watch boldly exposes – well, re-exposes; Snopes beat them to it by more than a year – an apparent pro-military myth circulated by the Pakenham-Berwick Gazette, a Sunshine Coast blogger, and a politician’s website.
Yet when invited to expose an anti-military myth that ran everywhere from the Guardian to the Sydney Morning Herald, from the New York Times to the ABC, this was Media Watch’s response:
Why don’t you do the work to investigate this turkey yourself, and publish the results in your column?
Still, they’ve taught the Pakenham-Berwick Gazette a lesson.
Why don’t you do the work to investigate this turkey yourself, and publish the results in your column?
A completely predictable reply. Belief in the plastic turkey has attained the status of religious faith, and Media Wash wouldn’t want to offend the faithful, now, would they?
I’d be interested in knowing how many climate-whoppers, truther pronouncements and domestic Muslim disemblings MW has brought into the light of day. Would I be able to count the number on one hand? No hand?
The closing line from the Media Watch “expose’”:
That story with its invented patriotic fervour is still there.
Apparently “Fake But Accurate” doesn’t apply to everything, eh?
<Presents “half a peace sign” to Media Watch>

Funny how only one kind of “myth” needs debunking.
They’re both leftist propaganda outlets claiming to “expose falsehoods” in the “corporate” mainstream media, but the difference between Media Watch and Media Matters is that one is taxpayer-funded hypocricy and the other is George Soros.

Here’s the kind of thing that could use some additional exposure: a Boston moonbat swarm (may take some time to download, but worth it).
Check out this guy. He looks like an unsuccessful farmer who’s been sucking gasoline out of his neighbors’ tractors to cut costs.
Don’t miss The Raging Grannies, a group of old harpies who, between them, couldn’t bake a decent apple pie.
This is why we eat meat.
I’m afraid that, in the eyes of that particular portion of the media population, we’re beating a dead turkey. TRJ beat me to it: since they are certain in their belief that Bush’s efforts that day were as phony as a plastic turkey, this story falls under the Fake but Accurate rules. It has been my experience that this certainty is actually based on their belief, making circular reasoning the prime rule for Fake but Accurate. That the belief itself is a mere assertion, it adds another dimension.
Hey, this just in: poison goober found in theater. Warning! Picture of Jimmy Carter!
Let this be a lesson to you, America: never, ever vote for a man who looks like Eleanor Roosevelt.
Wouldn’t the enthusiastic forwarding of this story that the piece decries suggest that the sentiment portrayed in the story is widespread, just as the story claims?
Seems to me we got our own fake but accurate going on here. And it’s about damn time!

The ABC’s Foreign Correspondent are also running with a human interest story that has been circulating on the internet for months. They’re quick!
Meanwhile, deep in the Media Watch offices:
Researcher 1: Oooh fuck, we’ve got another 15 minutes air time to fill this week.
Researcher 2: Well I’m in the middle of my highest ever Windows pinball score. Besides, it’s your fucking turn.
Researcher 3: I did some work last week too. Plus, I have to see the doctor about the concussion from that time I sat too close to David Marr.
Researcher 1: Has anyone seen Fingers and Mon? Can’t they do some work?
Researcher 3: Fingers is taking time off. I think he’s still sulking about having to work five nights a week next year, while Mon has chosen to move house. She said it has been a very demanding time living in the house and it was time to move on.
Researcher 2: I heard she was evicted. The ball went down the side, fuck it. Don’t you hate that! What can you do?
Researcher 1: Dammit, all right, I’ll do it this time. But one of you have to do some work next week. When the hell are holidays coming up? – I haven’t had a break in at least four months.
Researcher 2: Just look up snopes and find some old urban myth. It’ll be great stuff, inshallah.

- I was in an airport recently and saw an episode of Four Corners ….
Actually, I was at home. Last night’s Four Corners was a well-timed attack on the Government and the Defence Department during an election campaign. This story could have been aired much sooner, as the replacement fighter project has been the subject of a lot of discussion going back five years or more.
It could also have made some pretence to even-handedness in approach, but chose to run the usual bunch of Lowy people who have in the past given me the impression that they are anti everything except the F-22 Raptor, which is (a) not for sale outside the USA, and (b)expensive.
To laud the F-111 which is very old and has little if any serious air-to-air capability (it is a ground-hugging long range bomber) and then condemn the upgraded Super Hornet (which does) smacked of opportunism too. As did the sudden decision to see China, Indonesia and Malaysia as threats to Australia – something the ABC would usually frown on.
Four Corners had some credibility years ago when Chris Masters was in his prime. Stories broken on that show used to make the news.
It has long since been taken over by luvvies and I haven’t watched it in years. South Park repeats are more insightful.

I agree with your comments on the ABstinkingC’s bad timing and partiality.
However, some well-informed, high-rank, ex-RAAF friends agree with much of the opinion expressed in the 4-Corners program.
They would disagree with you regarding the Raptor being too expensive and unavailable.
They would also disagree with your comments on the F-111.
I can understand the young warriors’ desire to have something with more grunt while they are still flying, but many of us old bulls think that the somewhat whimsical equipment choices made by the government will have serious effects on Australia’s strategic situation in the years ahead.
That said, I don’t imagine for a moment that Kruddy and his pals would fix it.
But then the bold, italics, and underline supply has reached record levels. Even with people forgetting to close their tags. However, the strikeout supply now threatens to crack the foundation, so large has it gotten. And we can’t trade it in for more useful markup since nobody has any more use for it than we do.

I always thought these commie douches were big fans of the fake but true format- the story is probably factual initially, and has just been adapted and embellished- pity that the gist of it is true, that the vast majority of Australians appreciate and admire our soldiers, and what they do- a vile fact that sticks in the craw of every leftist one world true believer.
When is ABC management going to deliver the coup de grace to this flesh and bone gobbler?
I just find it hilarious that the ABC thinks that we need to have the ultimate strike capability in our region so that we can bomb the Indos back to the stone age.
I was watching it and waiting for them to feature some long haired wierdo with her boobs around her navel arguing that the $6 billion should be spent on the Melbourne Arts Festival and foreign aid.
But no, they just kept on arguing that we need to have the biggest and baddest weaponry in order to take on the bad guys.
Next thing you know, the ABC will be promoting the use of F-111s to bomb people smuggling boats.

#27- Nothing wrong with the F35, particularly in light of our requirement for a multi-role aircraft- we don’t have the budget (unfortunately, due to throwing cash at the yartz, welfare and coffin dodgers) for specialist platforms. While the JSF isn’t the ducks guts in any particular role it is highly competent in all- it doesn’t have the range of the pig, but fuck-all does now, and we have mid-air refueling capability coming. I still like the idea of slinging cruise missiles under P3Bs myself. Oddly enough I missed 4 Corners last night but will catch the replay- the ABC must be getting desperate for ammo if they’re raising the obvious to anyone with synapsing neurones threat posed by our northern neighbours, particularly Indonesia and Malaysia due to a rise in Islamoblammo influence; polls have turned on the Kruddster as well, tee hee- might have to put some more cash on Centrebet.
Wooooooo!! Early Halloween wishes!.
#30- I hope it’s true about Turnbull- I doubt he’ll lose his seat due to the dingbat vote being split between Ambulance chaser and local government nazi George Newhouse and his half-witted former squeeze Danielle Ecuyer, a pair of hypocrite luvvies from central casting.
I never liked Turnbull- a power-hungry opportunist and another classic North Shore Twinings Trotskyite twat, like his idiot wife– both walking, talking examples of why the rest of the nation loathes Sydney and its effete, pompous, pretentious wanker residents (at least east of Balmain anyway- the rest are virtual Visigoths).
luvvie is a term – I think – originally applied to pretentious members of the acting or artistic fraternities that can be applied to any plonker of the urban left, but most often to the wankocracy involved in media and the Yartz.

- Funny how the show is called “Media Watch” yet they devoted a significant segment about a story that was:
a) Not published by the MSM; and
b) republished by someone who definitely is not part of the media. If you ever needed proof that the show should be renamed “Thought Crime” it was there last night.

How coincidental: Labor attacks Govt over Super Hornets
What the ill-informed morons/shameless polemecists at the ALP/ABC fail to realise is that on top of vastly superior avionics/weaponry, the FA18SH is a carrier aircraft, and senior instructors from Williamtown are already in San Diego undergoing training in launch and retriavel, so RAAF aircraft can be deployed on USN carriers anywhere in the world in short notice, without having to be dissassembled to load on C17s or flown to site with the need for extensive airborne refueling and support.

O/T, but Phatty is aswoon over Kruddy the Klown, and seems to believe he’s some sort of intellectual behemoth rather than the vacuous, pompous, self-important twat he certainly appears to be- he also gives other examples of intellectuals in public life, confirming many of my deepeset prejudices and suggesting that Cretan Chris could have a rosy future in politics, particularly if he drops his daks.
I’m waiting for the Phatster to relegate Kev to giant brain status after he’s thrashed harder than a hire car in November.
As the distinguished political careers of Henry Bolte, Joh Bjelke-Petersen and George W. Bush attest (three names chosen entirely at random) neither pig-ignorance nor surnames beginning with B preclude election and re-election.

Anyone who’pally enough with the Pinko Pachyderm to ring for a chat should not be trusted with anything sharper than a loofah, let alone high office.
How about the peanuts he produces as examples of intellect in public life- Bob Carr, a congenital cretin who managed to fuck up NSW even more than Jack Lang; Bubba, a hillbilly rootrat who was too busy getting hoovered by pudgy interns to notice the rise of expansionist Islam, who sent troops into harms way world wide without air cover or armour, and who let his hideous harridan of a wife loose on the unsuspecting burghers of New York, and Malcolm Fraser- a detrousered coffin dodger who clearly has had one too many loose clots lodge in his frontal lobes, and who had control of both houses of parliament while in office and didn’t use the opportunity to dismantle the excesses of the Whitlam era and prise the leech class off the public artery while they were still loosly attached; the list goes on, but it’s too depressing to contemplate.

From what I saw, Pete was rather gentle.
As life affirming as watching some-one club to death a sack full of kittens in front some screaming orphans is, I’m impressed with Costello’s compassion in this instance.
And he always raised a laugh from the gallery.
I gave up counting the ending the blame game cure-all.
Working families was trotted out only once, to my best recollection.
Further to my O/T whinge above, I just remember another fool called and said:
“Imagine the terror* of the crocodile, trapped in the pipe and being stoned to death.”
It. Is. A. Fucking. Reptile.
anthropomorphism
I think the silly bint used abject terror.
Another person suggested that the boys be treated the same way so that they can feel the terror of the crocodile… he didn’t sound presbyterian.

2 Acronyms: MTTR and MTBF.
Mean Time To Repair and Mean Time Between Failures. Availability is MTBF/(MTBF+MTTR)
Availability for post-70s high-performance aircraft is on the order of 25%. For older aircraft, less. For modern aircraft, more. For transports, a lot more.
The figures are rubbery too, few aircraft take to the air in war situations without downchecks on some equipment. Fewer still complete a sortie in that condition. Sometimes you can live with it.
Alas, it’s a case of those who say don’t know, and those who know can’t say.

Speaking of military myths, this is great:
http://au.news.yahoo.com/071030/15/14syn.html
Shark found in Iraqi estuary.
Locals blamed the U.S. military for the shark’s presence.
Tahseen Ali, a teacher, said there was a “75 percent chance” Americans had put the shark in the water.
And we all know from whence it came as well.
It’s definately not one of these.
- #120 – and tonight’s repeat of NPR “All Things Considered” on ABC News Radio here included the story about US Special Forces shooting up a village of “civilians” in Iraq. Just helping to make sure the armed forces continue to be hamstrung by PC engagement rules and carping media back home.
From my reading of embedded journalists in Iraq rather than those embedded in the plush suburbs of their home cities, US forces are getting much more cooperation and better intelligence these days. I am suspicious of “eye witnesses” from the same group who suffered the attack because, prima facie, they have an interest in (a) denial, and (b) compensation. This could turn out to be a mistaken attack, but there was no clear acknowledgement in the NPR report that there might be a case in favour of the Special Forces.

124. – yes it was vomitous. He dodged the question on backflip so hard even Kerry wondered if he was talking with a straight face. Rudd got so worked up about it you could see his frustration at losing the chance to rub it in on Turnbull had been lost. He just couldn’t accept Garrett had been neatly caught out, and he had dumped on him.
It was funny seeing Kerry’s face as Rudd kept waffling – he looked so p’d off about it – more so than when Howard goes – I’m not commenting on that – after Kerry sets up a question with 5 minutes of monologue, then has to skip to the next question.
I seriously have trouble watching Rudd – I just want to slap him silly to stop the waffling nonsense.
The way he speaks now by making points 1, 2 3 is kinda rude as well – he is talking, not writing an essay ffs.
Here are the crucial bits to his avoiding the obvious:
KERRY O’BRIEN: But Mr Rudd, you’re saying are you not n the post-Kyoto agreement, that Australia would not sign up on binding targets unless developed and developing countries, the major emitters, also took on obligations, now isn’t that the case?
KEVIN RUDD: But that has always been our position.
KERRY O’BRIEN: Let me put to you what Peter Garrett is quoted as saying in the ‘Financial Review’ yesterday in an extensive article.
A Labor Government could commit Australia to a new greenhouse gas reduction target under the Kyoto protocol, that’s the new one, the second round, even if the deal didn’t immediately require commitments from developing countries.
It said that Mr Garrett would not consider it a deal breaker if developing nations refused to immediately sign on for reduction commitments of their own and further says asked whether the outcome would be a deal breaker from a Rudd Government’s point of view he said, “No, I don’t think it can be.”
KEVIN RUDD: And Peter’s point there, quite logically, is that if you got to that stage you would force people back to the negotiating table to get an outcome which had commitments both for developed and developing economies. That’s the core point here. Post 2012.
Our problem in Australia, because of Mr Howard’s stuck in the past thinking on climate change, is that we are a mile away from all of this because of our refusal to ratify, our refusal to take on binding targets for this commitment period and therefore the fact that we’re not party to the conference or party to the protocol itself which meets in Bali in December.
Therefore our ability to apply leverage on key major emitting economies like China in the future, is undermined, particularly as the Chinese publicly use the argument that with developed countries like the United States and Australia refusing to take binding targets for themselves, that allows them or lets them off the hook for the future. That’s the core point here. Our position has been consistent throughout this and Peter was simply stating the obvious that if you got to that point you’d get people back to the negotiating table to make sure you could deliver that sort of outcome.
BS – Garrett said they would SIGN, not go back to the negotiating table. What a liar!

Zoe, you mean to say that aircraft need maintenance? I thought they were like my car – you walk outside in the morning, stick the key in and away you go. I just wish we had some A-10s or similar, I just want the chance to fly something that opens a tank up like a can opener, and I don’t have to carry it in. :)On a serious note, you are right, people forget how much maintenance goes into just making gear serviceable, although if it can do 50% of what it’s supposed to, that’s ‘battleworthy’ to me.
Unless that 50% involves falling out of the sky on me, of course. 🙂

Aus military term for a weapon firing ‘unauthuoised’ ie; an unathurised discharge.
If you play around with multiple weapons systems enough, you will always have at least one, and are embarrassed as hell about it, but it does happen. :)A good one is with blanks, no, scratch that, a good one is it not happening at all, but it does happen.I’m more worried that deadparrot did himself some damage is all. 🙂
It was only a joke. In keeping with above #130 . “Unlawfull discharge” UD of a fish.
Seriously….
Had a good day at home all relaxed and comfortable. Rang Quack this pm, asked what hold up was RE: Hartlidge. They forgot about me, possibly because I was too polite. I said I was a paying customer, that pricked their ears.
No Insurance for me, I’m self insured. Anyway I just informed them I’m going back to work and expect to be away at least 30 days.
Ball in their court. Boing.
Appologies to Tim for nots pringing any dosh at this stage. will make amends when fixed.

Oh I had a UD once on an ambush. Mag-58 failed to fire after an all night ambush. Tried to clear it to no avail, so informed the PLT Comd while we bugged out. On the way out, just on reaching the RV, the damn thing ripped of 3 rnds. Never even got a kick in the arse,

Ha! Note that you don’t see a single instance of the Paco brand name.
#153 maybe not paco, but you’re still a scourge

One for El Cid (and for other people who commit golf).
When Pace is easily available he’s not cheap, and when he’s cheap he’s not easily available.

See, that’s why I don’t like to drink water. Fish discharge in it.

If the doctor asks my age, I hope he’ll just take my word for it.
Below find my home course. Played Committed golf in the worse possible manor today, in a tournament no less…..BUT not as bad as one of the fellows…he threw his putter in the friggin’ creek. Then had to roll up his pants to retrieve the damn thing.
OH…and NO it was not I, who chucked the putter.
Your ABC, and your forced to pay for it.
I’d lie about my wages if I had to fund something as vile as extortion funded entertainment.
