“It just became incumbent upon me to say something,” declares the Bay Area Signbat:

The anonymous activist known as “the Freeway Blogger” is blitzing Bay Area freeways this weekend with 150 hand-painted antiwar signs, a spree marking this week’s 1,500th U.S. death in Iraq. He has posted more than 2,500 such signs along California’s roads in recent years …

“Anyone can do this,” he said Friday.

Really? I thought painting signs was a traditional skill handed down through generations of trained signsters. Novices are sometimes killed during the grueling initiation phase.

And so “Osama who?” signs were among his first. Others have included “Nobody died when Clinton lied,” “Quagmire accomplished” and “Bush lied,” not to mention “Rumsfailed” and “Chimpeach.”

“The essence of it is reductionism: The shorter the message, the bigger you can make it and the less time it takes to paint,” he said.

This one, he has learned the master’s lessons well. And he’s adding “Chimpeach” to America’s “informational diet”, despite not knowing exactly what the hell he’s complaining about:

“I personally don’t know if the war is a lie, but what I do know is that this message doesn’t come out in the mainstream media and isn’t a part of the average American’s informational diet. That’s the kind of thing I’m trying to correct with what I do, to balance the flow of information.”

Sign on, Signbat! Balance that flow!

    1. Perhaps the signbat could do something useful and change the speed limit signs to 100mph or more.

    1. I suspect he isn’t using proper ventilation or breathing gear when he paints, ‘cuz he sounds like he has brain damage.

    1. “I personally don’t know if the war is a lie, but …with what I do, to balance the flow of information.”

This guy is a moron.  He doesn’t even know if what he says is true, but he is more than happy to discharge his effluent into the discourse.

    1. Sounds like a typical Luddite to me.  Roadside signs are so 20th century.

Even the moonbats are starting to back off.

      As Monty Burns would say…”Excellent!”

    1. He’s trying to balance the flow of information in San Francisco????

      SF???

      Anti-war rhetoric in SF????

    1. “I personally don’t know if the war is a lie, but what I do know is that this message doesn’t come out in the mainstream media and isn’t a part of the average American’s informational diet. That’s the kind of thing I’m trying to correct with what I do, to balance the flow of information.”

You know he does have a point.  This information IS NOT coming out.  And not just because of Andrea, who doesn’t want any of us to know the truth.  Other things I don’t know if it’s a lie but I know isn’t being discuss in the media (probably because of a government orchestrated cover up) include:
—Nostradamus predictions of Napoleon, Hitler, and Nabushitler

—Atlantis which everyone knows is located right off of Bermuda, or Bahamas, or Crete, or maybe sunken off of Cyprus, or maybe somewhere in South America, or either the North or South Pole, or, well, wherever it is, might or might not be connected to a Star Gate mechanism of some sort

—Mars and that face which looks kinda like Robert Fisk after the Afghans beat the crap out of him, obviously not all of it based on what he’s been writing, the beating of which he heartily understands if not agrees with since he speaks the same language as George Bush which means he had it coming of course

—Tom Jones still being kinda popular, which definitely involves some type of mind controlling rays from a military satellite, how else could you account for it?

—the Cincinnati Bengals, in spite of having the best front office, ever, in any sport, in any country, ever, better than the Soviets during the 1970’s even, hasn’t been in the football playoffs since freaking 1990, I’m not talking Super Bowl or even the conference championship, I’m talking playoffs, in spite of drafting super great players, probably the best ever, and hiring extremely great coaches too

—no one ever actually seeing Mark Steyn, on TV or in film, or the newspapers, except for that drawn photo, which if you look carefully looks like a composite of Darlene Taylor, Lileks, and Karl Rove

OK, yes, maybe there’s nothing to any of these.  But all I know is, nobody saying anything about them.  Which, you know, sort of proves there’s something to them.

    1. He’ll never top the effort of the Bay Area abseiler who over the course of two nights painted a huge image of a naked woman, straddling the mouth of the tunnel thru the Walnut Creek mountain.

Something tells me I saw it whilst living there, sometime in the early eighties. Or maybe I read about it. Anyone remember this famous SFO incident ?

    1. “Anyone can do this,? he said Friday.

Is he calling himself a signpainter? He’s not even a very good photoshopper, judging by examples of his work. That’s like me slapping together a few random scenes that didn’t make it into a story, running them off on my printer, and calling myself a published novelist.

/descended from a REAL signpainter. You know, who knew how to paint and use calligraphy and all that stuff that takes more than ten minutes on the computer to master.

    1. Hmmm! An East Coast Native?
Another Churchill type, with a proposition that just has to be fulfilled.
Never has information been so available, and this tinfoil tosser has to go out and vandalise the landscape.
Take the fine for littering, or grafitti, or some such offence (probably huge in California), multiply it by the number of signs, and nail the galoot, but good!

    1. At least his slogans/signs are much more original than the run of the mill BushHitler, BushNazi, NoWarForOil, and FreePalestine type slogans/signs. These are boring.

If the guy is concerned about drawing attention to things the MSM has neglected, I wish he’d paint some signs about what’s happening in the Sudan while he’s at it.

But, I guess what he meant to say is draw attention to all the anti-American stories he feels the MSM has neglected. Sudan wouldn’t qualify.

I note that he also doesn’t care how accurate his slogans are. Truth doesn’t seem to be the issue. Makes things much easier for him.

    1. JAFA – I read about the giant painted lady over the tunnel on Snopes.com, but since I’m at work I can’t dig up the direct link right now.  They even have some quotes from the woman who painted her, I believe.

    1. Rob, I agree, after tags such as “Nobody died when Clinton lied,?, we could have:

Clinton was bad, but it was Monica who really sucked.

    1. I like the bit where he claims brains over guts by exclaiming, “I could do this for 100 years and not get caught.” Particularly compared to the statements two paragraphs earlier in the article where he notes that police have confronted him with, “‘Look, you and your signs get out of here.’ Nobody wants to make a big deal about it, and that’s fine by me. It’s such a low-level crime, cops have other things to do.”

So I guess this guy has neither brains nor guts. Maybe it’s just me, but I would characterize cops telling him to take his signs and take off as “getting caught.”

    1. Good-grief, we have enough over-stimulated tin-foil hat morons running around here who lack any sort of impulse-control.  This guy thinks his crayon is unique?  I wish auto suggestible East Coast natives who get spastic urges like this would just stay home and not grab the next flight to the Coast…

    1. Two questions:

      1. How exactly does putting signs on the side of the road constitute “blogging”?

      2. If this person is anonymous, how did the newspaper find out details about him? Either they are in collusion with him, or they are blindly regurgitating his press releases. Either way, it’s bad journalism.

Posted by blandwagon on 03/06 at 08:06 PM • #

    1. It’s the usual state of agenda-driven advocacy journalism as practiced in the Bay Area today.

Ummm, guess this asshat has been to busy painting signs, to know “this message” has been coming out OF the msm for 2 years plus now.

If mr freeway blogger ever got a job, his reductionism could be down to one or two BIG letters, per sign. Ahhh got one for him already… F. O.

It’s not W. they hate, its all of those who are right of center that they hate.
