George W. Bush is greener than Al Gore, whose grotesque energy consumption is caused by his global warming alarmism:

Asked to explain how the Gores use the amount of electricity they do, [Gore alibi generator Kalee] Kreider said they have a large family and often host guests. Both Al and Tipper Gore also have home offices. And she noted that much of Al Gore’s time is spent trying to bring about awareness to the problem of global warming, which as a byproduct uses carbon-emitting power.

Thus leading to Gore’s impressive carbon footprint:

Nope, it would be wrong to wish that that elephant was really there, and walking towards al-Goregon.  Tempting, but wrong.  Some on the Left were disappointed that the suicide bomber missed Cheney yesterday, and urged Al Qaeda to try again.  Not going to sink to that level, despite how deliciously tempting it is.

    1. When I think of Al Gore and the mindless Goebbels Warningistas, I can’t help but be reminded of Oscar Wilde’s Lord Goring in An Ideal Husband:

Lord Goring: You see, Phipps, Fashion is what one wears oneself. What is unfashionable is what other people wear.
      Phipps: Yes, my lord.
Lord Goring: Just as vulgarity is simply the conduct of other people.
      Phipps: Yes, my lord.
Lord Goring: Other people are quite dreadful. The only possible society is oneself.
      Phipps: Yes, my lord.
Lord Goring: To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance, Phipps.
      Phipps: Yes, my lord.

It’s plain old snobbery.  It’s about broadcasting one’s own smug sense of superiority.  The only problem is that they completely abase themselves in the process.  Case in point: that stupid bint gracing the front page of The Oz a few weeks back, boasting about how she purchases carbon credits to offset her farts.  FFS!

Because the rest of us are single loners. Check.

Both Al and Tipper Gore also have home offices.

Running computers, fax machines, scanners, and roll-to-roll industrial printing presses eighteen hours a day. Check.

And she noted that much of Al Gore’s time is spent trying to bring about awareness to the problem of global warming, which as a byproduct uses carbon-emitting power.

Because the rest of just profligately burn energy for recreational purposes, not doing anything in our lives or our jobs that contributes positively to the general welfare of the world. Check.

That is not at all a condescending, feeble attempt at an excuse. Really.

Now I’m going to write a letter of concern to my local paper about the global climate crisis, thus helping raise awareness of the problem, so that I may barbeque a harp seal.

Looking beyond the monthly bills, Kreider said, “I think you’d see, obviously, a pretty clear pattern here of trying to devote a substantial amount of time to his effort of trying to solve this problem” of global warming.

As well he should since, it seems, he’s responsible for much of it. One small carbon footprint for Man, one giant carbon hoof print for Agore. (apologies to Neil Armstrong)

I have no problem with people getting passionate about the environment or any other such issues. However I am a strong believer in leading by example.

People like Gore have no excuse really for minimising their consumption, he is wealthy enough to lead the way to show the rest of us just how easy it is, or what can be done and if it is not that simple then what does that say? What does that mean for people who are not as well off as he is? Maybe that is why he doesn’t bother.

Oh and if he has not been tallying up his carbon footprint by all that jetting around he has been doing then that is another point against him. No doubt he will start making a big song and dance now about how he is going all out to minimise his emissions but frankly that is too late since that activity will be mainly due to the “naming and shaming” he has copped.

    1. Definition:

An AlGoreful* (AGfl) is the amount of energy consumed by one Al Gore in a year and is equal to 221,000 kWh. Being such a big unit of energy, it’s usually expressed in milliAlGorefuls (mAGfl) and microAlGorefuls (μAGfl). For example, 50 mAGfl is just about the average US household yearly energy consumption. Similarly,  the average American household consumes about 4.2 mAGfl per month, 139 μAGfl per day and 5.8 μAGfl per hour.

    1. From American thinker:-

This year’s Oscar goodie bag contained gift certificates representing 100,000 pounds of greenhouse gas reductions from TerraPass, which describes itself as a “carbon offset retailer.” The 100,000 pounds “are enough to balance out an average year in the life of an Academy Award presenter,” a press release from TerraPass asserts.

“For example, 100,000 pounds is the total amount of carbon dioxide created by 20,000 miles of driving, 40,000 miles on commercial airlines, 20 hours in a private jet and a large house in Los Angeles. The greenhouse gas reductions will be accomplished through TerraPass’ program of verified wind energy, cow power [collecting methane from manure] and efficiency projects.”

Voila, guilt-free consumption! It reminds us of the era when rich Catholics paid the church for “dispensations” that would shorten their terms in Purgatory.”

So much for crasss commercialism being an anathema to the public broadcaster- they’re also pushing the polemic onto impressionable schoolage eejits by slinging free copies to nominated marxist indoctinators teachers, but only if they force the kiddiwinks to sit through the turgid tripe (come to think of it, this may have the opposite effect- any boring bollocks I had to sit through at school made me instantly agin’ whatever barrow it was pushing, particularly if school “management” thought it a worthy thing; yoof rebellion tends to be like that).
The only thing that came close to a question on the blind acceptance of the whole thing by the resident dribbling hippy fucktards who infest the breakfast show was “what about the carbon footprint” of the leaflet and DVD campaign, to which Dee assured the adoring airheads that it had all been offset, and what’s more there was No Government Funding!!! involved (except for the 10 minutes of air-time, with no doubt more to come).

Why, generous companies were stumping up the dosh! No mention of who these mysterious benefactors were though, and no question raised as to whether they had a pecuniary interest, either directly in DVD/book sales, or downstream in flogging horrible low light curly bulbs, solar panels or carbon credit three card monte.

A friend of mine has just bought himself a giant carbon credit. He’s expecting to get ironed shirts and sex out of it for the rest of his life.

    1. BTW, if you’re in need on an emetic, the “current affairs show” on the yoof network has Tim Flummery on this ‘arvo (1730 AEST), no doubt being subjected to some intellectual rigour, and not shamelessly hoovered as the oracle and saviour of Gaiea. Link here for the podcast. Keep a bucket handy.

    1. I was only joking the other day about carbon credits in the Oscar trick-or-treat bags.  Dang, maybe I should post something about having some rich coot suddenly hand me a million bucks.

Only 100,000 pounds of greenhouse gas credits, though?  That isn’t enough to offset the noxious emissions given off by the average self-important pompous asshat celebrity in a ten-minute public appearance.  Alec Baldwin alone would need at least five times that amount.

    1. #49 Rush wouldn’t let the guy finish his point.  The reason Rush doesn’t have interviews (much) is that he’s actually, in some ways, really stupid.  In other ways, really smart.  It’s hard to put together.

The point seemed to be some variant of Le Chatelier’s principle, that the climate is self-stabilizing, and kept cool by rain patterns that increase when it would otherwise warm up, and nobody models that feedback which is actually dominant.  Stabilization by rain patterns accounts for about 100 degrees F of cooling today aleady, so the way it changes is rather important, and not modelled.

Instead, models tend to drift (without it) to too hot or too cold, and only recently have they succeeded in getting models to balance on a knife’s edge sort of matching temperatures in the real world today – but balancing on a knife’s edge is not the actual dynamics of the atmosphere and so the models are, in spite of all the love and work spent on them, worthless in fact.

Rush wanted to go off into belief in God and Creation to refute global alarmism instead, because he couldn’t follow it.

Rush’s success is because he has a sense of humor and pokes fun at himself (the bigger-than-life persona is self-mocking but infuriates the left anyway), but he becomes unlistenable when he goes off on a moral kick deploring this or that.  Then he’s no longer self-mocking and the entertainment goes to zero.

    1. #62- Incandescent doesn’t cover it, these pros have even covered that angle.

The only possible way to recover our losses is to rip off Honda, and convince all the Habibs and Hoons who buy our vehicles, which are as Gaiea friendly as a Vogon Destructor Fleet, that a paintjob makes them carbon neutral, and also invisible to all forms of radar.
