From the cheerful transportation policy director at San Francisco’s Policy and Urban Planning Association:

“People will kill their puppies to stop global warming these days,” said Dave Snyder with a smile.

Via Ramon M., who emails: “I promise you: even here there is no way this stupid tax passes.” He refers to a proposed fuel tax. The live puppy tax isn’t due until 2009.

    1. Isn’t something like 60% of the price of fuel already from taxes anyway? I live in the Bay Area, and I’d be very surprised if they didn’t manage to tack on another 10 cents/gallon.

Does that strike anyone else as a bit of gloating from a con-man who knows the marks have bought his line?

Sounds like they’ll need to pass a dead puppy tax, what with all the enviros killing their puppies.

Their new slogan: “Kill a puppy, save a polar bear!”

    1. “Now, thanks to Al Gore and many others, carbon reduction has become a cause, a lifestyle,” Grubb said.

A lifestyle, eh?  Championed by Al Gore?  No problem; I’ll start soliciting bids for a heated pool and guest house on my property next week.

After reading that article, all I could think of was how smug those bastards sounded.  Around here, that sort of arrogance would start a recall election.

      In PelosiLand?  Not so much.

    1. #8: Pretty soon, the few climate skeptics left will be running around trying to avoid being captured by the pod people.

    1. The smarmy bastards always sound like that when they think they’ve put one over on the sheeple.  Disgusting Stalinist pricks.

What kind of person smiles at the idea of people killing innocent animals?

  1. Isn’t the answer the Penitent’s Petrol Pump?

You know, the one that’s out of the roof line of rain protection, the other side of where the 18 wheelers fill with diesel (and spill all over the gound), with dirty fingerprints all over the empty hand-towel dispenser.

    I can just see it:

    Regular Unleaded:  $1.20 per litre
    Carbon-offset unleaded:  $1.40 per litre

Let’s see how many of the warm and caring actually vote with their wallets, shall we?

What?  It won’t work, you say?  Well, let’s make it compulsory for all!

It’s a bit like Kevni07 – I think that we have an entire generation of voters who have not known and suffered Labor party mismanagement of things economic, and another lesson (unfortunately) needs to be learnt.

My fervent hope is that it is a short lesson, of under three years’ duration.
