Previous Green Left Weekly protests in support of David Hicks made two central demands: free David Hicks and close Guantanamo Bay.

But that was before Hicks received his teensy nine-month sentence, to be served in Australia. Green Left Weekly has since decided on a change of plan:

National protests for David Hicks on April 21 will now proceed with a new focus — free David Hicks, close Guantanamo Bay …

    1. It is fairly clear that Hicks is not a terrorist. Like Jack Thomas, and other Australians, he attended one of the Muslim training camps of that period. Attending these camps does not mean that you become a terrorist.

Can you imagine hanging out at the Aryan Nations compound for a few weeks, and the Green Left Weekly insisting this doesn’t mean you’re a neo-Nazi?

Furthermore they are active supporters of tyranny and opression across the border in communist cuba. The message? Its okay to torture, murder and oppress if you’re a communist. Disgusting.

    1. It’s astonishing how completely the Hicks story has evaporated since his (effective) release.  Given the huge public support for him which the Age was always telling us about, I expected at least some spontaneous expressions of delight, elation, triumph, whatever.  Where did all that passion go in 24 hours?  Apart from a few perfunctory attempts in the Fairfax op-ed pages to paint Hicks’ shoplifting sentence as yet another of Howard’s cunning crimes.  The Left are like nothing so much as a baby that screams for a toy only because it doesn’t have it, and the moment it gets it, throws it back over the side of the cot.

    1. It’s awfully nice of Green Left Weekly to agree to house all of the Gitmo terrorists misunderstood folk.  I’m glad they won’t mind sharing living quarters, though the women better get their burkhas quick.

    1. What hasn’t evaporated is the mindless, lazy thinking of middle Australia, who, like those in the US, want to assimilate Hicks into their naivety and ‘I care’ moral vanity, but ignore all the serious issues behind Jihad.
They are like the 1930s pacifists and anarchist elites, who scorned Churchill’s warnings as they imagined their safe life did not need any defending.
So many looked at evil and saw nothing.  No wonder Hicks is now their hero.

Both the left and extreme left are again posing as pacifists, even if it means cuddling up to the most obscene dictators on earth like Mugabe, Chavez, Castro, Iran, and most of the Arabs who tacitly support Jihad in Israel, but not in their own country.
Most of their Iraq analysis is really nostalgia for Saddam and anti-democracy.

The hypocrisy and blindness of the intelligent left has never been more blatant, and it is very widespread, as the polls show.

    1. On the other side of the ledger, aussie muslims support the idea of killing infidels who touch the quran or saying things about mohammad.

Hmmm, there is a ruling in fiqh against those that slander, speak ill or foul mouth, belittle, hurt, scorn and so much more, against the Prophet.

A lay muslim is given the authority to kill that person!

This is to the agreement of all Fuqaha and ‘ulama with the only disagreement between them being deciding whether or not ( if it was done by a Muslim) that the person is killed and is thought of as a believer or disbeliever. The minority opinion ( extreme minority) being that they think of him as a believer.

    1. Fair go, Tim. There is only limited number of things a leftie can do. Slogans starting with “free” and “close”, plus “stop”, pretty well cover all the options in the Protesters’ Handbook (1966). There are perennial favourites (“Stop the war”), some which lead to a dazzling career in Labor poltics (“Close US bases”) and some that are now quaint historic relics (“Free Baba”).

    1. But the raving frothbuckets are half the fun, tfm!

It’s astonishing how many ardent suporters the reactionary, totalitarian Theocracy has among the blinkered Left. Small wonder Middle Eastern progressives feel betrayed:

IRAQ’S parties of the Left were shocked when the new Socialist government in Spain decided to withdraw from the U.S.-led coalition in 2004. “We had hoped that with a party of the Left in power in Madrid we would get more support against the Islamofascists, not a withdrawal,” says Aziz al-Haj, the veteran Iraqi communist leader.

Tareq al-Hashemi, vice president of Iraq, has also gambled his impeccable progressive record on the success of the pluralist experiment in his country. “Our enemy is al Qaeda, not the United States,” he says.

      (…)

“Anti-Americanism is a luxury we cannot afford in the Middle East,” says Adnan Hussein, a leftist Iraq writer recently picked by the Financial Times as one of the 50 most influential columnists in the world. “Blinded by anti-Americanism, the Left in the West ends up on the same side as religious fascists and despots.”

They’ve realised they’ve been played for fools by the narcissist Western Left. They aren’t the first, just the latest.

That’s not a done deal, C.L., although I admit that appears to be the case.  It depends, in part, on just how insane the Dhimmicrats act in the next year or so.  The more insanity, the less likely they are to win.  With some luck, and a serious change in attitude by the Republicans.

And if that’s frightening, check this out:  Right now, Pelosi is #3 in the line of succession for the Presidency.  The fact that she is Ted Kennedy after liposuction and a sex change, with botox substituted for gin, merely adds to the terror.  One misstep by the Secret Service, and we don’t need an election.

About 65 years ago, almost to the day, Sir Robert Menzies broadcast a series of essays via radio. I have found transcripts of them at http://www.menziesvirtualmuseum.org.au/transcripts/ForgottenPeople. Sorry auto link won’t work.

I know he’s Pig Iron Bob, British to His Bootstraps and I Did But See Her Passing By etc, but anyone who has the time to go to a link and waste that precious time reading some mad lefty rant might be well served reading Menzie’s “Forgotten People” essays. They work on so many levels to this very day and feature some simple explanations that I find very useful in countering annoying lefty shit.

A part of me was saying, let them win, fold my arms and ask them, “OK, now what?” But the other part of me remembers that we’ve already done this before and ended up with a boondoggled Bosnia, Kosovo and 9/11.

He has potential, C.L., and a pretty good background, ignoring his Hollywood tours.  Certainly he isn’t weighed down by a lot of dark history (no doubt the diggers of dirt are busily digging for dirt on him).  He’s a possible.

I’m not committing to any particular candidate right now; it’s waaaaay too early to lock onto one person (the early campaign start aggrevates me to no end).  It’s better to say that I am against certain candidates, such as Hillary!, who seems to be gathering momentum.  As Texas Bob notes in #29, we can look forward to future fantastic fiascos such as Bosnia version 2.0 under her.
