Phillip Adams reloads his Obama revolver:
If Obama wins the nomination, he’ll be targeted, full stop. Because in the US the politics of personal destruction frequently leads to being shot. I raised the possibility – the probability – of attempts on Obama’s life in this column a month ago …
Adams previously raised the possibility – no, the probability – that US President Wesley Clark would one day meet with Australian Prime Minister Simon Crean. The senator is safe.
The subject came up when I was preparing to interview the author of The New Rome?, a fine piece of political writing by Cullen Murphy, managing editor of The Atlantic Monthly for more than 20 years. He was concerned that I’d raise the issue of Obama being assassinated because every Australian interviewer had done so. In contrast, he said, no one in the US media has raised the possibility.
Not so. A conservative journal raised the possibility almost a year ago:
As the first African-American in history to have a real chance at winning our presidency, Obama is tempting fate as a high profile assassination target for numerous individuals … Like Kennedy, Obama could easily be targeted by an individual who, for whatever deranged reason, might want to see him off the ticket for good …
Back then, this sort of crazy right-wing talk was dismissed as “less a warning than a sick wet dream, the deranged fantasy of a consummate racist who quite obviously would like nothing more than to see Obama in an early grave.” But that was before leftist pundits got hot for a shot on the Democrat front-runner. Adams continues:
I copped the blame, knowing of no other Australian commentator who had raised the issue.
It’s an issue?
And I knew I would have self-censored if my column appeared in a US paper rather than The Australian.
Phil’s column is online.
To discuss even the possibility of an Obama assassination in the US would be asking for trouble.
Evidently not; besides the piece mentioned above, Joseph Palermo discussed the possibility of Obama being RFKed some days before brave Phillip discovered this “issue”. Neither author, so far as anyone can tell, has experienced “trouble”. More fatal than a bullet is Adams’ victory prediction:
[Obama] will win because he’s black, not despite it.
With Adams on Obama’s team, back McCain to win. Hell, for that matter, back Wesley Clark to serve consecutive terms.
Let us hope that maniacal racists in the US do not exact a terrible vengeance.
Leftists, including Adams, have spent the last few years wishing disaster upon a liberated Iraq. Now they’re wishing disaster upon anti-liberation Americans. These people are deranged.
UPDATE. Adams is caught again. Anyone still watching Media Watch will never learn of this.
“Because in the US the politics of personal destruction frequently leads to being shot…”
Yes, here in America the streets run red with the blood of slain politicians. You’re really better off running for office in Pakistan.
Seriously, who is this Adams twat? Is he paid for what he does?

As commenters have pointed out in other threads, people who try to assassinate U.S. presidents are usually either nuts or egomaniacs or both. Phil Adams seems to think that vast numbers of caucasian Americans sleep on tinted sheets because the white ones are used exclusively as KKK uniforms. If this were true, how is it that certain high-profile African-Americans, whose racial huckstering can be said to be genuinely offensive – people like Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Louis Farrakhan – avoid the necessity of sleeping in safe houses, employing body doubles and keeping food-tasters on hand?
There is a certain type of liberal who is more interested in seeing every wicked thing he believes about America proved to be true, than in witnessing even his own utopian dreams come to fruition.
Let us hope that maniacal racists in the US do not exact a terrible vengeance.
What a fucking race monger. I suppose the attempted assassination on then Governor of Alabama was racist, correct?
Was it a racist that did the rest of our dead Presidents in, you stupid bastard.
Was it a racist that attempted assassinations on other Presidents?
How about Robert Kennedy..Sirhan Sirhan, a racist?
I think you will find Adams the Fruitcake, that the commonality of the above killers and near killers IS a deranged mind. So deranged that none of the above could even spell, racist.
Take your own racism and anti-Semitism and see a head shrink, immediately. You seem to be well along with your own, derangement, Adams.
Here is a thoughtful and amusing article on race and the symbolism of Obama’s campaign.

Well, in Lincoln’s case yes.
Of course, the liberals great love, JFK was done in by a communist and their great hope, RFK, was done in by a Palestinian.
I think it still pisses the left off that they were not killed by right wing nuts.
You know what? JFK was killed in 1963. I think it’s time people got over it.

Fascinating stuff on some potentially shady wheeling and dealing by Obama’s advisor (and maybe the Messiah, too).
I think it still pisses the left off that they were not killed by right wing nuts.
Thus the endless conspiracy theories.
Actually, I think the Obama assassination fantasies are boomers trying to relive the JFK myth. Sure, they’re justifying it with a level of bigotry towards Americans, but the root of it is a sick sort of nostalgia.
I *hope* their fantasies never come true, regardless of the outcome of the election.

Two episodes of Media Watch down and they are still to mention a Fairfax paper.
Surprising? No.

Why should it surprise anyone that Adams thinks like this? To assassinate Obama would require a conspiracy and Adams sees rightwing conspiracies behind everything, no matter how innoculous.
What an idiot.

Any pundit wishing to raise the spectre of Robert F Kennedy’s assassination should also mention that it was a hate crime carried out by an Arab objecting to Kennedy’s support for Israel.
Revisionists have cast Sirhan as insane, but if you read his writings, he was no more insane than your average current jihadist.

Somebody needs to inform “journalists” like Mr. Adams that we Americans stopped burning witches and having gun duels on the street (well, except occasionally between drug dealers in the slums) a long time ago. We even wear shoes and wash our hands before we eat. Adams might be surprised if he could ever see past that bigoted nose of his.
Remember after 9/11, when foreign pundits wailed that American streets would be awash in the blood of innocent Muslim-Americans?
You know what happened? We held demonstrations and parades in cities across America in support of Muslim-Americans. In a nation of 200 million white racists, exactly one dipshit killed an innocent Sikh because he was wearing a turban.
And I haven’t heard one of those goddamn pundits note this. Cowards.
Non-American journalists seem to derive their expertise about America from watching bad TV shows. But TV is mostly written by lefties who project their own politically correct bogeymen onto the screen.
Marxist and Muslim terrorists, of whom we have decades of real-life examples, don’t exist in Hollywood’s fantasy factory. Instead we get kill-crazed Nazis and Klansmen, right-wing generals who want to take over the country, and politicians who plot the assassinations of their rivals.
These stock villains don’t exist, which is why it’s safe to make movies and TV shows about them.
“Has anyone asked Mr. Adams how many Aboriginal Australians have run for Prime Minister? And have they been shot at?”
Info on aborigines in Australian politics…
“Under Section 41 of the Australian Constitution Aboriginals always had the legal right to vote in Australian Commonwealth elections if their State granted them that right. This meant that all Aborigines outside Queensland and Western Australia had a legal right to vote. Indigenous Australians gained the unqualified right to vote in Federal elections in 1962. It was not until 1967 that they were counted in the population for the purpose of distribution of electoral seats. Only two Indigenous Australians have been elected to the Australian Parliament, Neville Bonner (1971-1983) and Aden Ridgeway (1999-2005). There are currently no Indigenous Australians in the Australian Parliament.”–wiki
Looks like shooting black politicians isn’t much of an issue in Australia.
Maybe someone should ask Phat Phil why there aren’t too many blacks in Aussie politics. Maniacal racists at work?

Unlike Australia, the United States has lots of black members of Congress. I think 43 were elected in the 2006 elections. So far, none of them have been shot by maniacal racists, despite our blood-soaked history.
Amazing.

#23 “We even wear shoes and wash our hands before we eat.” Hey, speak for yourself Ms.Becca. Where I live we only wear shoes to the dogfights. 🙂
Well, of course, greene, I didn’t say how many hours a day we wear our shoes. And maybe I should mention that wronwright tut tuts around and insists that everyone take their shoes off before entering the Tardis. Quite finicky about the floors, he is.
In the never to be forgotten words, of the late, great Johnnie Cochran, of O.J. Simpson trial fame….
“If the gloves don’t fit, you can’t convict”
‘If the bell gonna tolls, why go to the polls‘
‘If they be throwin the switch, think of his bitch‘
‘If Obama is sure to be gone, why get up at dawn ‘
‘If they’re thinkin’ casket, why go cast it‘
Can’t Cracker Phatt more like- needs blood (universal left wing viagra substitute) to spice up his victimhood fantasies these days.

Not in a society that experienced more than 100 years of lynching, of Ku Klux Klan terror, of murders committed during the civil rights struggle, including the deaths of Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X.
Thus wrote Adams again inferring that Malcolm X was the victim of a white racist. He was killed by a black Muslim in a turf war. Adams has to cut out that flagon on wine at lunch.
- Has Adams ever worried about the safety of GWBush or John McCain?
Hillary could also be a target simply because she could be a surrogate to break the 2-term limit rule and reinstall Bubba for 8 more years.
Why just comment on one candidate?
Why not admit that most US President assassinations have been to right wingers?Oh, I see.
Want to take issue with another of Adams’ assertions: “No country since ancient Rome has experienced the killing of so many leaders”.
What is he talking about? Four presidents over 140 years plus RFK and Martin Luther King? That’s six. The Russians, fresh from killing Rasputin, wiped out not only the tsar but his whole family, then went on to assassinate Trotsky and execute and assassinate hundreds of political figures during Stalin’s regime. There are many other countries that have killed more than six political figures, from China, to North Korea, to Iraq, to Yugoslavia, to Germany, to Chile, to Indonesia (twice!) and so on and so forth.
Why even Australia has had one political assassination (Newman), which on a pro-rata basis is 20 assassinations in the US.
- (I put this comment on a similar thread on Andrew Bolt’s blog)
I’m simply amazed at the amount of left-wing commentators that are convinced that Obama will be assassinated “because he is black”. Most recently from Philip Adams.
As for Obama having more chance of being assassinated just because he was black I’d say it’s complete nonsense. Reagan wasn’t black and he was shot. Dick chaney and Bush aren’t black yet movies have even been made glorifying their assassinations. JFK wasn’t black but that didn’t stop him from being shot for being anti-communist by a man who has more in common with the far left of the modern Democrat party than JFK ever did. Robert Kennedy was shot by a Palestinian terrorist for being pro-Israel. Republican President Garfield (white) was shot, as were Republicans Abraham Lincoln, and William McKinley whose assassin was a left-wing activist. Assassins tried to kill Gerald Ford twice with the first attempt made by a hippie and the second by a left-wing ‘revolutionary’.Remember that the first state primary won by Obama was an overwelmingly white state. If you’re going to accuse the US of being a nexus of racism you should check your facts and history. The left is more than capable of violence. After all the left did create Stalin, Mussolini, Hitler, Pol Pot, Castro, Guevara, etc etc. and Karl Marx was a fanatical racist.Posted by Fragglerocker on 2008 02 26 at 07:03 PM • permalink
Adam suffers from the cowards disease “displacement”, mechanism by which the object that is actually feared is displaced by a one they can attack without fear. Thus, murderous head-chopping Islamists are displaced by evangelical Christians, etc etc, and don’t metion real assassins. Don’t mention Danial Pearl’s death; Don’t talk about Theo van Gogh; let’s demonize the American White Male, you know the ones who would not lift a finger to his wife and children, but forget an entire society that sanctions wife-beating as a routine part of family life. Don’t worry gutless Adam, when the Islamists come for you the Australian military, that you detest, will rescue.
“What have the damn Yanks ever done for us?”
Improved your DNA no end. You’re welcome.

I don’t know if you are being sarcastic at Phil’s expense, but will answer anyway. The Secret Service protects all Presidents and Vice-Presidents and their families (among other duties). They may also protect candidates if the authorities so order. Hillary has protection as the wife of an ex-President. Obama has had protection since early May, 2007 CNN.Posted by Michael Lonie on 2008 02 26 at 11:57 PM • permalink
If the history of political assassination attempts in the USA since Robert Kennedy is anything to go by, John McCain is at far greater risk.

Seriously, when was the last assassination or murder of any US official at national level? It’s been decades. It’s been close to three decades since the attempt on Reagan’s life and longer than that for Ford. Phil really needs to pull his head out of wherever it’s hiding and take a look around.
As to the prevalence of maniacal racists, I’m personally grateful for them. Whenever it rains I don’t have to get my feet wet crossing the street. I just use all the maniacal racists lying prone in the street with their sniper rifles as stepping stones to safely cross from one side of the street to the other while staying high and dry and comfy.
Indeed. Powerful stuff.
Call me a worry wart, (have been called worse and repeatedly…lol) but I truly do fear an Obama Messianic wave inundating, this once proud and powerful nation.
Because in the US the politics of personal destruction frequently leads to being shot.
Thanks for offering specific examples to back it up your inflammatory assessment, jagoff. I can count out the number of high profile assassinations and assassination attempts on both hands, beginning with McKinley’s assassination and ending with Reagan’s shooting. But if nothing else, the politics of personal destruction do lead to aching for somebody to be shot, as we’ve seen with the myriad leftoid assassination fantasies from all over the world featuring George Bush.
All presidents risk being shot, regardless of race.

- Mark Steyn is polling predictions for the next US president.
McCain and ‘None of the above’ each are polling 3 times Obama [with just 15%] curiously enough.
Assuming many of the 4200 are Canadians [maybe not] it seems an oddly unrealist poll – do Canadians take the USA even less seriously than the US electorate does?If this is accurate, McCain looks a far more likely candidate for assassination, doesn’tnull
For leftists it’s imperative that the US be an inherently racist proto-totalitarian state steeped in violence. For whatever reason it makes them feel good about themselves. Okay, fair enough – if focusing on an imaginary evil takes their minds from their own self loathing, then who am I to object? Most Americans are self confident enough not to worry about shrill asinine hysterical pants wetting drama queens and their hyperventilating dizzyness.
Oh, and the fixation on the Klan – they were a Democrat phenomonon. As was lynching, and Jim Crow, and slavery, and Lester Maddox and Bull Conner and George Wallace.
But you Aussies still have some unanswered quetions concerning Harold E. Holt. Sharks, huh? How conveeeeenient. I question the timing. Why were none of the supposed sharks ever identified?
