The New York Times pulls an Adele Horin.
Just goes to show how the fundamental Truths don’t change.
In a fake-but-accurate way, naturally.

To come up with a new thought is hard. Leave the poor man to his mutterings…oh, wait, it’s an opinion piece in a national newspaper?! I rather thought it was some nutter walking around the office stirringhis hot coffee with his index finger and rambling on and on about those people…you know, Republicans.
Maybe the TimesSelect wall fell too early.

How is that last name pronounced?
The first name looks french, so perhaps it’s “hoar-an”, with the nasal “n” at the end?
Or is it pronounced “whorin’”?

Oh, thank goodness they finally tore down that wall! I’ve been quite bereft without Bob “I hate Republicans and I hate racists, therefore Republicans are racists” Herbert, Paul “I hate tax cuts” Klugman, Frank “I hate everybody (but especially George Bush)” Rich and, of course, the irrepressible “I hate men (but especially George Bush)” Rowdy-Dowdy.

I wonder if he realized that in the 60’s, if Reagan in fact opposed the civil rights amendment, Reagan was a Democrat toeing the Democrat line, after all, Al Gore’s father is the one who filibustered it…..

See, Cid, those totties will get you every bit as much as the toddies will. I’m with Rebecca though (as usual), you, and your verbal slaughter, are perfectly acceptable.
I do so admire the writers her at Tim’s. Kyda and Rebecca have become my favorite female wits. Paco, and others who don’t need naming to this bunch, simply blow me away. I do wish I had their verbal acumen and wit. Me, I’m more of a half-wit, dry as Death Valley, but I claim a disability that shuts down my brain occasionally and turns thought into a constant search for words that float just out of my reach. Even so, I hope I don’t repeat myself too much. I had thought that a “professional” writer wouldn’t have the same problems I do, requiring them to plagiarize themselves. How embarrassing!
- I had to ask my French friends why their new administration was so pro-America these days, and so ready to dermp on Iran.
“It is simply the improvisation of…”, they began in that incredibly cultured tone born of centuries of genuine history and heritage and all that stuff I crave but can’t have because I’m just a bloody ordinary bint living in a far-flung colonial outpost of absolutely no interest to people of class such as they …
… er, I forget what they said after that.
I can remember when I was a kid (surprisingly!) driving with my family to visit the family when we came stateside on leave. In those days, there was no air-conditioning in the car and you carried bags of water hanging on the grill for the radiator when driving through Death Valley. There were no fancy hotels with swimming pools from beginning to end back then. Only unrelenting heat. By the time you stopped for the night, you were nothing but sweat and sand encrusted exhausted mass that barely resembles a human form.
Ahh, good ol’ revisionist history. The Dems always do it, and a lot of people have bought it, but the Dems were the majority party running the segregation in the old South—and the civil rights bills passed due to the majorities of the (Republican) minority party in the Congress.
And of course, as you inferred, the Senate filibusters were mounted by Democrats, such as Albert Gore Sr. and KKK Kleagle Bobby Byrd.
Governor of Arkansas, who defied the court order to integrate Little Rock’s Central High School? Why none other than a Democrat—Orval Faubus (yes, that’s his name!) And the infamous Birmingham, Alabama police chief Bull Connor—also a Democrat. (I’d go on, but I understand there’s a character limit to each of these comments.)
But don’t believe any of the stories like these you hear, ‘cuz “we” really know that it’s the Republicans who are the real racists…
/snark off
I blame Bush.
