From reader Scott: “Welcome to an Estonian Christmas meal—unfortunately for the American attending, the verivorst (blood sausage) was the main course. But the company was good. The man on the left, Horre Zeiger, survived World War II (and Stalin’s purges) to keep his swing-music big band in operation. They’ve been going constantly for more than 50 years.”

Sharon Lapkin took this shot last week as Melbourne was blanketed by bushfire smoke. “Most people thought it was the rising sun,” writes Sharon, “but it was actually the setting moon.”

John Wilson and wife Peggy have appeared here before: “You may remember us from your evil overpopulation photo post. The most important difference between that picture and this, is our then yet-to-be-born child has become our born child. Caroline Wilson began contributing to humanity’s total global carbon emissions on 10-25-06 at 2:06 a.m.” Congratulations!

Chris from Wisconsin took this shot just before Christmas 2004 in the town square of Metropolis, Illinois:

Paco the Great emails: “The attached photo was snapped by Paco Jr’s drill instructor a couple of weeks ago. Not exactly a Christmas theme, and it’s not great quality, but it does provide an indication of the jolly sort of fellows they recruit as drill instructors; note those merry smiles! I draw your attention, particularly, to Sgt. Shaw, the DI on the far left. I believe if we dropped him on Iraq, the war would be over in 48 hours.” Paco Jr is the recruit on the far right (sweet!) next row from top:

“Everyone knows that Jews traditionally celebrate Christmas by going out for Chinese food,” writes Mike Gebert. “Well, I’m not Jewish. But I am Foodish; in fact I help run a Chicago-based food forum, LTHForum. And our idea of Christmas Eve is to reserve 40 places at a Chinese restaurant, Lee Wing Wah, and invite total strangers off the Internet to come join us. (Actually, the idea belonged to my friend Michael Morowitz, who is both Jewish and Foodish, as if that weren’t redundant.)

“So here’s a traditional Christmas picture of deep-fried fish of some sort in sweet and sour sauce, along with three of our group who are too busy eating to pose. I might also point out that another member of the group was collecting homemade baked goods for serving at a homeless shelter on Christmas morning. You don’t go hungry when the Jews are in charge of Christmas.” Evidently not:

The Trainer advises: “This shows the importance of always having a meat-sock around at Christmas for the hungry Border Collie.” Whose name is Zorro:

From dog to cat: Andrea Harris “got good and drunk and hung up the rest of my lights. As an added bonus, the Outdoor Cat, who (appropriate for one so close to the Spirit World) displays her glowing Inner Spirit.”

We’ve seen this shot before, but it deserves another run because since then we’ve met Sgt. Ivan, shown at right with his brother George (a corporal in the USMC) and their nephew Daniel Benedict. Proud parents Urbs in Horto and Sonetka’s Mom email: “Please give our very best to all our friends Down Under. And here’s hoping we see you in 2007!” You got it, Urbs:

Frollickingmole admits he used wire to attach that Santa hat: “The missus wouldn’t let me use techscrews.”

AmeriDan, working on his Nice Pete look, emails: “I’ll celebrate Christmas here in Memphis, Tn. It should be very cold here now, but Al Gore is riding in his jet sleigh to bring global cooling to the world. So please excuse my lack of a shirt.”

Dodgy Bob isn’t confessing to any wire or screw use relating to this image:
