Good news in Iraq is bad news for the Left:
Rep. John Murtha, D-Penn., has been one of the strongest anti-war voices in Congress and a key ally of Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif. However, after a recent trip to Iraq, Rep. Murtha said, “The surge is working” …
One story quoting Rep. Murtha is in The Politico – the online publication that covers Capitol Hill. What is interesting is the next line that says the Pennsylvania Democrat’s statement “could be a huge problem for Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other Democratic leaders.”
“This could be a real headache for us,” said one top House Democratic aide, speaking on condition of anonymity. “Pelosi is going to be furious.”
Nothing infuriates a Democrat speaker quite like a working surge. Which brings our Virginia editorialist to this fine point:
Imagine if during World War II, some congressional aide had said, “We’ve just taken back the Philippines. This could be a real headache.”
