Australian law prohibits identification of rape victims. Forgetting this can be expensive:
A rape victim who was named in an ABC radio news broadcast has won an Australian record payout of $300,000.
The woman, who can be identified only by the pseudonym Jane Doe, sued the ABC, a reporter and a sub-editor over the 2002 broadcasts.
Check the ABC’s defence:
The ABC argued that there was no evidence that anyone other than Ms Doe and her psychologist had heard the broadcasts …
That’s a fair point, given the ABC’s ratings.
