An anonymous commenter at Anna Venger’s site claims to have new information on last month’s alleged attempted honour killing on the Gold Coast:
Hi Sorry to disapoint you but [name removed] was not a “victim” of an [attempted] honor killing. She killed her mother and stabbed her father after she came back from overseas. Her parents were quite angry with her after she married her heroin addict boyfriend and ran away to sydney (illegally, whilst she was still 16). After her parents forced her to move to the Gold Coast and sent her boyfrind to jail she was quite resentful to say the least. I hope you will think twice before jumping to conclusions about ones religion as there is NO ritual or honor killing in Islam. Killing is the greatest sin. to quote the Holy Qúrán Upon you is your own religion, and mine in upon me.
I hope this has cleared some things for you. PS she has not converted.
This claim, so far as I’m aware, is yet to hit local media.
UPDATE. AAP reports:
A 17-year-old woman has been arrested over the stabbing murder of a woman at the Gold Coast last month in which the dead woman’s husband also was seriously injured.
Police said the woman had been arrested, but not yet charged, over the fatal stabbing of a woman, 41, and the serious wounding of a 49-year-old man at Southport on October 9.
The woman is believed to be the couple’s daughter who received minor injuries during a domestic dispute at the family’s Smith Street unit.
Police initially investigated suggestions the violence erupted after the 17-year-old daughter told her doctor father, a devout Muslim, she wanted to convert to Christianity.
Should be an interesting court case, assuming she’s charged.
