Andrew Bolt reviews this week’s ABC presentation on global dimming, and reveals further evidence of faith-based green extremism:
When ABC radio host Jon Faine this week decided at last to let a global warming sceptic debate a global warming prophet on his Conversation Hour, his co-presenter, TV weatherman and green guru Rob Gell, freaked.
Talking to a doubter, even a scientist, would be like inviting on a “Holocaust denier”, Gell protested. Or as he said on radio: “If you were discussing pedophilia, you wouldn’t bring in a pedophile to discuss the issue.”
No, but if you were discussing hypocrisy, you’d definitely bring in Rob Gell. I interviewed Gell in 1989 about his then-current choice of personal transport – a smokin’-hot BMW M5. Way to save the planet, Rob!
- So are we going to roast or freeze?
I remember the first “Earth Day” in 1970. At school we were shown a documentary which said that we could be either cooling the Earth down through pollution, or warming it up through CO2, and that scientists hadn’t made up their minds.
35 years later and they still can’t tell us.
Actually I think the catastrophe crowd may have overplayed their hand with this Global Dimming thing. To most people it will seem that they don’t have much of a clue what’s happening.
They are convinced the Evil West is creating a catastophe. They just don’t know which one. Most people won’t buy that.
- Michael Roderick and Graham Farquhar from the Australian National University in Canberra found that evaporation rates across Australia, measured using continually replenished pans of water, have fallen significantly over the last 30 years, a sure sign that less direct sunlight is reaching the surface. The decline matches the effect seen in the northern hemisphere. “This proves that it is a global phenomenon,” says Roderick.
But he is not dismayed by the result. He has recently advised the Australian government that global dimming may not necessarily be a bad thing. “The standard dogma is that Australia will dry out [with global warming], but that’s just not right. The world is actually getting less arid,” he insists.
In fact, Roderick sees global dimming as part of a possible negative feedback loop working against global warming. Burning fossil fuels not only increases carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere; it also pumps tiny particles into the air. Meanwhile higher temperatures increase the amount of cloud cover. The clouds and particles help to block the Sun’s rays, and the scattered light they allow through actually boosts plants’ absorption of carbon dioxide, the principle greenhouse gas. This would help to keep carbon dioxide levels stable, argues Roderick, protecting the planet from runaway global warming”.

- Apparently the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991 produced only very temporary effects on the climate. http://davidappell.com/archives/00000704.htm
This suggests that volcano power is the way to go. Forget windmills.
Don’t miss the “dark times’’ political analysis quote from a depressed Mark Mumford http://davidappell.com/archives/00000707.htm while visiting.
- Guggenbulh-Craig said that borderline pedophiles make good teachers because they can sustain a daily interest in what children are saying. There’s an unfortunate over-the-edge continuum, is all. The “tendency’’ is beneficial and the over-the-edge version is parasitic on it.
The full pedophiles I’ve heard interviewed are kindly, interested in children and their welfare, and all the rest, sort of supporting this analysis. Or take Michael Jackson’s explanations, for instance. Talk show guy John Kobylt then says that “no middle-aged guy talks like that unless there’s something wrong with him.’’ Well, teachers do talk like that.
The interesting part is a new way to see how something fits. I don’t know if it’s right, but it’s from two sources anyway
- sjens, rhhardin — I’ve seen American news channels interview pedophiles.
sjens — no, it wouldn’t.
rhhardin — horseshit. (Sorry for the language, Andrea) What you have are pedophiles who have cultivated an excellent camouflage… and a mechanism for keeping them close to children. You have to have a sexual interest (even if suppressed) in children to remain interested in them on a day to day basis? That’s pathetic, and an insult to every parent and good teacher in the world.

- raider580. zscore — It is a scientifically incontrovertible fact that if you subject people to rampant temperature change every day of their lives, they inevitable die.Posted by richard mcenroe on 2005 03 26 at 08:30 PM • permalink
- Wonder how much the temperature went up when Saddam set fire to the oil wells-no outcry about that-did’nt the ice caps melt just a little?!!!!!!!!! and all those two strokes in SE Asia and India and China-no pollution there!!!
Bring back the Bison- lots of methane at no cost-
Thank goodness we have Andrew Bolt,Tim Blair and Mark Steyn to keep us believing that there is sanity on earth

…and if you were discussing snails for dinner, you wouldn’t bring in a Frenchman!
