Sir David Frost interviews Tony Blair:
During the interview, Sir David suggested that the West’s intervention in Iraq had “so far been pretty much of a disaster”.
Blair replied: “It has, but you see what I say to people is why is it difficult in Iraq? It’s not difficult because of some accident in planning, it’s difficult because there’s a deliberate strategy – al-Qaeda with Sunni insurgents on one hand, Iranian-backed elements with Shia militias on the other – to create a situation in which the will of the majority for peace is displaced by the will of the minority for war.”
The Age’s headline:
Iraq invasion a disaster: Blair
- Tim, this is exactly why why you just cant work for Fairfax.Posted by Nic on 2006 11 18 at 09:08 AM • permalink
- The BBC News was saying the same thing last night. (They play it on the public radio stations here.) It was All Blair Said Iraq War Disaster All the Time, even though the (carefully edited) snippets of the interview were rather different—you know, more nuanced.Posted by Andrea Harris, Administrator on 2006 11 18 at 09:15 AM • permalink
- “Fuck you, Sir David” would have been a perfectly appropriate response. But the headline the next day would have been “Blair blames Frost for Iraq Disaster” or something equally cretinous.Posted by SwinishCapitalist on 2006 11 18 at 10:02 AM • permalink
- I’m guessing that Sir David would have been a crackerjack editor for Pravda during the Soviet era.Posted by The_Real_JeffS on 2006 11 18 at 11:55 AM • permalink
- Sad when news reporting turns into agenda propoganda. Sir David- should he decide to do some actual investigation, might want ot look into Iraq a bit beyond the N.Y Times take on the issue because there are 100’s of 1000’s of free Iraqis living a life that was not possible under Saddam now- towns are being rebuilt, schools, girls are getting educations now, 1000’s of people are now getting vaccinations, power grids exists where they never did- women are now allowed a voice- No- the war has NOT been a disaster- Sir David’s article is a disaster.

- Oh sure, blame the Baathist insurgents and al Qaeda terrorists – that’s like blaming the Germans and Japanese for World War II.Posted by Steve Skubinna on 2006 11 18 at 12:58 PM • permalink
- ‘During the interview, Sir David suggested that the West’s intervention in Iraq had “so far been pretty much of a disaster”.’
Yeah…for our Baathist enemies.
Not for us, though.

- #5 Obviously the story was already written in his head.
Classic examples
From the ABC [who else]:
Stateline South Australia [the home of David Hicks] interviewed his father this week, starting a question with
‘Now we all know that you have always protested your son’s innocence, Mr Hicks.”
Mr Hicks: Actually I have NEVER claimed that David was innocent, I only want him charged if he has done anything wrong…This is a recorded program and the producers were obviously quite shameless about advertising their professional ignorance and dumb bias.
BIAS 2: Optus are having a poll on David Hicks:
One question asks if David should be sent home [implication: set free] because his treatment is ‘quite inhuman’. [59%] Your choice is to deny the request to take part [9%], or to answer
but ‘the US must give him a fair trial’.Still 40% chose this alternative out of the two weasel questions.
- Channel 10’s ridiculous and egotistical political reporter repeated the ‘Iraq disaster’ line. I wouldn’t expect anything else from that waste of space.Posted by Art Vandelay on 2006 11 19 at 03:12 AM • permalink

Seems the Age is laening from the drand master of the art of subversion , the BBC.

- Also quoted on ABC news with the P.M. (HoWARd) “defending” our stance.
ABC also using footage from al jazira now.
Inciters today starred Red Bazza Cassidy -mine host, dashing David Maher, lank Lenore Tailor, provocative Piers Akerman.
First up, Jim Middleton prosed on for ever about climate change..and because John HoWARd actually supported discussing it and moving to ameliorate it ..Jimbo smarmed “John Howard is EXPLOITING climate change..”.
Also the High Court case on I.R. laws..Red Bazza “do you think the P.M. will move to EXPLOIT it?”
Alex Downer came on to discuss Iraq and Tongan “democracy” riots.
Red Bazza “Richard Woolcott SAID trying to install a democracy would not work.”
and “but in defence of Dick Woolcott he said “SLENDER THREADS WERE KEEPING SUNNIS AND SHEITES TOGETHER -wasn’t he RIGHT”.
Downer “yeah slender threads like a tyrannical regime and murder”..etc.
Baz “and finally to Kevin Rudd and the ALP leadership…”. Then Baz shows miserable footage of Beazley mishaps, thus stabbing his own leader in the back.
Debnan “is in more trouble than Iemma, and can’t stop himself from EXAGGERATING and MAKING OVERBLOWN COMMENTS” said Marr ???
Baz “a very nice segue into our next INSERT”.
Heffernan is discussed by Marr “the WRECKAGE that trails behind——- on paedophilia YOU GOTTA HAVE FACTS.”
(and Marr, why doesn’t that apply to ALAN JONES then???-says I).
Back to Iraq via Vietnam and Piers brings up “fashionable Anti American liberal views on ABC COMEDY SHOWS” ie (the glass house)
Baz “its been going very well” -Piers “well catch it before it goes.” Lanky Lenore becomes enraged..
“HOW CAN YOU DISMISS ANTI AMERICANISM and the RATIONAL DISAGREEMENT with George Bush’s adventures!!” No bias there.
All three lefties shout at Piers.
Red Bazza (deservedly after his drubbing of Beazley) accidentally puts his foot in his mouth and coins a new word for Kyoto ..
“Koyota”. Talking pics and cartoons sending up Howard, Costello and Rumsfeldt and Howard’s friendship with Bush, Howard taking over the whole of Australia via the high court, walking over the states and the unions (and one targeting the hapless Bomber).
Bazza “the P.M. ATTEMPTED to give some kind of reassurance to the public after the high cout decision”.
Lanky Lenore was SPITEFUL today “The last time we saw a dream team was Howard and Costello -not so dreamy” and on Iraq “theyre still waiting for the GLORIOUS, AMERICAN VICTORY.”
