The big giant heads arrive in Bali:

About 500 activists carrying effigies and banners have marched in Bali, calling for action from a key United Nations meeting aimed at battling climate change.

Protesters from as far as Europe, South Korea and Bangladesh marched through Bali’s main town of Denpasar carrying banners that read “Stop Climate Chaos,” “Rich countries must pay” and “Bush: Killer of the planet.”

Killer of the planet? We’ll have to update our insult list. Back to Bali:

Police in Denpasar said about 500 people had turned out in the tropical heat to protest, some dressed in old cardboard boxes and rubbish.

That’s “smart casual” for the effigy community.

Demonstrators were from a number of environmental and conservation groups, and were highlighting issues as diverse as deforestation, the rights of disabled people, and the responsibility of the rich world for global warming.

This conference ought be held in Salem.
