“In 2004,” reports AAP, “Mr Garrett described the Tasmanian timber industry as logging gone mad and carnage in the forests.” Three years later:

Federal Environment Minister Peter Garrett has ruled out taking action under environment laws to stop logging going ahead in the Wielangta forest on Tasmania’s east coast.

This point-Peter-at-Parliament scam keeps delivering unexpected benefits; we’ll never hear Garrett talk about climate change again, and even if he did, it would be drowned out by the screams of murdered Tasmanian trees.

    1. Very true Surfie. If it’s a hot day, it’s often cooked by the time you find it too! That’s what I call fast food.

    1. No, guys, you have to get it fresh. When we accidentally hit a roo or a goat in our vehicle (this was way in the past in our younger days) we always took the choice bits and left the less desireable parts for carrion.

The alp has had this philosophy for more than a century. Nothing’s changed.

    1. This ban on Garrett saying anything makes you wonder what sort of agreement Latham and Garrett signed in 2004. Did Labor contractually bind itself to a portfolio for Garrett if it was ever elected. Garrett didn’t become a millionaire businessman passing up on the chance to make money and a minister’s wage is way better than a backbencher’s. There can be no other explanation. Rudd obviously thinks the man is a liability and had he really been free to chose his ministry, he surely would not have picked Garrett.

I wonder the deals made to get rid of underperforming, unpopular, cock-up expert state Premiers before the election… a lot of rats seemed to be jumping in the past 12 months or so.I hope it comes out soon.

With Beattie, I think you can only be so sorry so often that you really fucked up before people will tire of it. We shall see at the next Queensland state election.
