Sgt. Phillip Trackey discards his medal. But not in the manner of John Kerry.
An excellent story about a good troop, a good student, and a good teacher. Thanks, Tim.

The phrase “Only in America” are often used by the MSM Down Under in a perjorative sense.
This is a REAL “Only in America” moment if ever there was one—as Dave S. wote:
“I’m not sure what the coolest part of the story is – that he gave his medal to the girl, that her name is Faisal, or that there’s a seventh-grade teacher in New York who’s having her kids write to servicemen.”
Great story to wake up to. Thanks, Tim.

Please stop picking on John Kerry, if you are too slow-witted to keep up with his mental comings and goings that is your problem, not his. Plus, every time you people pick on him I get depressed because I am reminded that neither he nor that paragon of integrity, Teddy, will ever be booted out, and thus they will continue to “represent” me in Congress until they decide to retire and two more Democrats can be sent to Washington. Sigh…

OT – but has anyone seen the headlines in the age this morning?
The age is reporting that Ramos Horta is blaming Australia for the problems.
Here is an extract:
With final elements of a 1300-strong Australian battalion group in this morning, East Timor’s Foreign Minister Jose Ramos Horta blamed the “slow pace” of the Australian response for the violence and panic.
He complained that militias and mobs were terrorising the city — “and yet, no Australians.”
The use of troops must be “escalated, absolutely”, he told The Sunday Age. “This is because of the slow pace of the deployment. I have urged the Australian side to be visible. The foreign troops are not having an impact. The biggest problem is the absence of a strong Australian presence.”
Personally, I think that is disgraceful. The opinion pieces today are full of how Australia was ‘caught unawares’ or ‘dropped the ball’ (Can’t find the link, the Herald Sun never include Matt Price & Glenn Milne in their op-ed section)
Yet more of the victimhood that is running rampant nowadays!
It is always someone elses fault…the pissers and moaners, NEVER take responsibilty.
Aussie troops are doing their usual fine job, and here’s hoping that it doesn’t grow worse.
There just are those that if you gave them a million bucks in 20 dollar bills, they’d piss and moan that they wanted it in 10 dollar bills.
- The Victim’s Creed:
When you come in to help, you’re interfering.
When you leave me to my own devices, you’re abrogating your responsibilities. That aside, the story about the Purple Heart is just the thing to start the day with. Thanks, Tim.Posted by SwinishCapitalist on 2006 05 27 at 07:42 PM • permalink
You’re spot on, one of my big concerns with this though was that Ramos Horta is their Foreign Minister (and from what little I’ve seen, he’s usually been pretty sensible).
It would be interesting to know whether the Age selectively edited for effect, or the usual stand-by “I was misquoted” or if he really believes what he is reported as saying.
It would be interesting to know whether the Age selectively edited
Hmmmm, the media (print and otherwise) do that down there, too?….I’m shocked, horrified…:).
If this fellow is, OR has been “pretty sensible”, then it’s a story for paper sales, ratings, or anything against Howard.
Agitate, then stand back, point fingers in as many directions as ‘they’ can, except towards themselves.
Of course whatever the outcome, Mr. Howard will be blamed. If it is a sensible outcome, have no fear, the media will poke the stick until ‘they’ have the outcome ‘they’ planned.
Once in a while you get a glimpse of the real America from MSM reporting. I have a friend who is quite well off, who got his daily dose of brainwashing from the NYTimes and wound up a deep leftie and US hater until he fled New Orleans from Katrina. In Alabama he ran low on gas and found upon entering a gas station that in his haste to get his wife, three kids, 2 dogs and an aged aunt into his SUV he had left his wallet with money and credit card behind. The station owner filled his tank, then took him and his family to the diner next door where they were all fed up to their noses while the customers collected $200 dollars so they could continue, and, in addition, persuded the motel nearby to let them spend the night . Everything free with love. That’s America! He’s changed his mind about his own country after coming in contact with real people instead of only with his academic collegues.
Where’s a troll to smarm things up?
Lemme do my best!
THE MEDAL WAS MADE OF DEPLETED URANIUM!!!!!!!!111

- #13 Yeah on the morning that we had official invitation to send troops A.M ABC presenter was interviewing Downer -“are you absolutely SURE that we are welcome, there are rumours that the President in E.T.is not really all that keen….”
On ABC Inciters this morning they were running that line -3 Lefties with Bazza Cassidy and Lenore Taylor.Still trying to cure the nausea from Glenn Milne and URGH David Mar.
Interestingly this week they were even more parsimonious with time for Aboriginal Communities discussion-instead of four and a half minutes they allocated exactly four-before heading on to the Most Important Cartooney section -bagging Howard and Costello….ABC must get their priorities right.Mar the ONLY ONE though to defend Aboriginal Customary or Tribal Law…
Thanks for the heads-up on the Insiders line-up. I usually watch it on ABC2 on the digital at 9:00pm, but really only enjoy it when Bolta or Piers are on. Usually they have the token non-moonbat, but I have recently seen a number of episodes when they have three moonbats and it is nauseating – I turn off immediately.
I won’t have to wait up now.
That was a very touching story Tim, I got quite misty. “Please Sir, may I have somemore?”.

Long John isn’t fit to polish Sgt. Trackey’s boots. That was a charming story, and doubly interesting that he gave his Purple Heart to a little girl named Fatima Faisal.
