I have a cheque from the ABC for $132—payment for some radio work a year or so ago. To which ABC-unfriendly charity or cause should this be donated?
- Well, humanity would probably benefit, in an aesthetic sense, if Magog got a make-over. A hundred and thirty-two bucks would make a reasonably decent down-payment.Posted by paco on 2006 02 02 at 12:37 PM • permalink

- If there is an Australian version of these guys, that would suffice, thinks I.
- Spirit Of America, given how this excellent organization supports the Global War On Terrorism by supporting the soldiers in their mission.Posted by The_Real_JeffS on 2006 02 02 at 01:40 PM • permalink

- What radio work was that then, eh? Full disclosure would be nice. A year ago or thereabouts, eh? Sure you weren’t offering editorial services to a certain Tony Eastley, now, were you? And the Mediawatch whitewash that ensued – what were you paid for that?!
*cogs turn in puny mind* It’s all falling into place. Tim’s a fifth columnist. Commentariat, get Heidelbergian on his arse!

- BTW I believe a cheque is valid for 13 months from its issue date, as denoted on the cheque. I suggest you hold onto it for a few of those 13 months, because it may come in handy if Tex needs some legal defence from those awfully intimidating state-funded lawyers engaged by Thom Lyons.Posted by James Waterton on 2006 02 02 at 02:45 PM • permalink
- What about http://www.pizzaidf.com ? Buy some pizza for Israeli soldiers on patrol. I’m sure ABC would love it.
As great as that is though, I do have to second the vote for http://www.spiritofamerica.net
- Tim – as much as I support Spirit of America and Pizza for the IDF (and I do support them – with money as well as words), I vote you spend the ABC’s money on the Australian military. I’m sure they’d appreciate some phone cards, as RebeccaH suggests.
And as an added benefit, I’m sure that would drive the ABC nuts. 😀

- An excellent suggestion, Rebecca and Barbara…..although “Spirit of America” goes to Iraqi and Afghanistan citizens through the military, not to the military.Posted by The_Real_JeffS on 2006 02 02 at 04:22 PM • permalink
- First priority should be towards Tex’s legal defence although I doubt Thom Lyons will succeed in getting his lawsuit off the ground.
In which case donate it to the xmas fund for another BLF mocking trip to The Bellevue Hotel or other suitable establishment.Posted by Hank Reardon on 2006 02 02 at 05:25 PM • permalink

Cheques are good for 15 months in Australia.Years ago, they got state after 12 months, but in January so many people forgot the new year, and wrote “state cheques”, they extended it to 15 months.

- How about http://www.AmericanSnipers.org – formerly “Adopt a Sniper?” Don’t know what type of sniper equipment that kind of cabbage will buy, but it’s the kind of charity that would make your ordinary ABCer apoplectic.Posted by rocketeer67 on 2006 02 02 at 06:37 PM • permalink
- If not me, or Tex’s legal defense fund, I suggest the Jewish Refugees from Arab Countries project. That’ll get a few heads spinning and mouths frothing at the ABC.Posted by Sasha Castel on 2006 02 02 at 06:39 PM • permalink
- This assumption that the ABC is a left wing organisation has become very tiresome.
Indymedia, Mike Carlton, the Maoist Separatist Movement of Surry Hills, Phillip Adams, Socialist Action Group, Che Guevera Admiration Society, David Marr, and UTS Communication department all agree that there is no bias, and have said so repeatedly on their regular ABC radio and television interview slots.

- You could commission some I SUPPORT JEB BUSH FOR PRESIDENT IN 2008 bumper stickers and campaign buttons. And then pass them out and paste them to car bumpers. Especially for those in the ABC parking lot.
At the bottom you can add in smaller letters, PAID FOR WITH MONEY FROM ABC.
Even if Jeb has no intention of running and regardless of whether you would even support such a campaign, it would give many rightwing people great joy watching lefties throw a conniption over it.
(or you could do something nice and give it to Spirit of America or buy phone cards for soldiers or purchase bunnies for poor minority children or something)

- Perhaps you could spend the money on a course for their accounts payable department?
I’m sure the hundred bucks could pay for a qualified trainer to attend for ten minutes and say “pay your bills on time”.
Alternatively, at 8 cents a day, you could pay for the ABC for a little over four and a half years.
- Why not fund the fellows doing the “freedom of information” request that the ABC was spending hundreds of thousands denying?
I seem to remember them trying to prove ABC bias in proggramming and the ABC paying for a QC to fight it because it would cost too much?
Anyone else know what the outcome of that was or if its still ongoing?

This mob will send 400 litres of the finest exotic critter crap direct to the buggers for that figure, and worth every zac.
Even better if you could tip it on Kerry O’Brien when he’s turning up for his half-hour’s rigourous toil. I bet even that wouldn’t wipe the smug smirk of his inane dial.
- Does anyone know where I can get a “not happy john” sticker

I shoot feral pigs… and I vote!
I (heart) John Howard.
Impeach Cindy Sheehan!
Mohammad had sex with little girls. A lot.
God bless W!Remember to add that “PAID FOR WITH MONEY FROM ABC” footnote as mentioned in #25. Then it’s down to the ABC car park for a cavalcade of sticker fun! Just make sure to stick them to the paintwork, not the plastic bumpers; they’re harder to remove that way.
Of course, if you’re REALLY feeling evil, do exactly the same thing, but in the SBS carpark. Hopefully we can start a lefty civil war and let them wipe each other out.

Number 25? What, is this The Prisoner? Hey pal, how about saying “as mentioned by wronwright”.
God only knows if someone cited Iowahawk (wiggles index fingers in a wriggly motion), they would say Iowahawk. Iowahawk said this. Iowahawk said that. Oh, Iowahawk is so fun and clever. (waves hands in wriggly motion)
But now I only rate a number? I blame Bush for this.

- I vote for the snipers too, either to the organisation or how about that marine sgt. who popped a terrorist at 1250 yards plus awhile back, perhaps establish a trophy for most impressive sniper shot in Iraq.

- A bit O/T but I’d like to think any coalition troops serving in Iraq or Afghanistan can ring up their family and friends back in Oz, States, UK Poland etc as often as they bloody like and not be charged a cent. Although i know Andrew Bolt gets on some show on the ABC on sunday mornings with Barry Cassidy as the token conservative, is it The Insiders or something????
- Checks list to see when the hell wronwright got promoted to #25…
I think he’s been intercepting his performance reviews in the office mail again. I’d mark his performance review down for that, but it’s the most initiative he’s show since we told him to shadow Cindy Sheehan and he got arrested sneaking into Cyndi Lauper’s condo…

- How about a donation to Australian Friends of Keren Malki? Can’t imagine a cause that’s more appropriate, Tim. Basic story is simple. Australian-born child is killed by peace-loving pre-parliamentary terrorists in a restaurant bombing. Parents decide to set up a charity in her memory and help Arab and Israeli disabled kids. Hundreds of families quickly benefit. ABC radio gets wind of the new charity’s work. Then the story gets bopped by ABC management because of fear of unbalanced coverage. They don’t even hide their PC. A classic. The story’s all laid out at the Malki Foundation website.
- Decisions decisions hard to decide between #21 and #36 …are they worth swinging for?
#43 Yeah Little Kev looked like a rabbit caught in the spots on a dark night when he first appeared on camera for his Dorothy Dixers with Red Kezza.Do you think his hair is receding-fast.
Tim if you’re feeling magnanimous you could use the cash to buy Kostakidis an iron or Kezza a new right eye…
- Paypal the money to Kim du Toit so he can buy a new gun. If that isn’t evil, I don’t know what is.
- O/T a George Galloway snippet from Popbitch
George gets legless with the Muslims
When George Galloway was chairman of the Dundee Labour Party, a couple of decades ago, he helped arrange to twin Dundee with Nablus, West Bank, Palestine. The councillors got a jolly to the Middle East, where they presented the Mayor with a bottle of whisky and a kilt.
Unfortunately the Mayor was a devout Muslim, and therefore did not touch alcohol. He didn’t like the kilt much either, as he’d previously had both his legs blown off in a terrorist attack.
- Do you even have to ask? Why, to Howard’s party if you are in a decent mood and to the GOP if you are angry.
Last December I got a check from MADD, Mothers Against Drunk Driving. They’ve morphed from anti-drink driving to anti-drinking at all and are basically nanny-staters who want to tell me what to do. The check was for $2.50 and the pitch was that I could cash the check, but all fine, upstanding progressives would return that check with one of their own.
So I cashed it at a liquor store.
- Buy some Aussie flags for beach pavilions.Posted by Some0Seppo on 2006 02 03 at 10:33 AM • permalink

I agree, Malki would be an excellent choice.
And you have to understand, that sort of decision is the perfect principled lefty stand, as in, “Yes, Hussein and his sons were butchering families, torturing children and raping brides on their wedding day, but dammit, that’s a sacrifice I’m willing to make for peace.”
A true lefty is always willing to let someone else have the courage of the lefty’s convictions…

- My brother did a year in Iraq, and he says the phone cards are a big hit. Might also want to consider phone cards for military personnel injured in action and recovering in hospital. Finally, there’s an outfit that actually sends air conditioners to the troops; wish I could remember the name, but you can probably google it.
I’m pretty sure Wronwright’s name was on the promotion list. And I, myself, am getting the Scooter Libby “Excellence in Confidentiality” award (hmmmmm; do you think Karl’s being sarcastic?).
- Must agree with Richard; Op Gratitude is great. Lots of people say they support the troops; through them we do it.
I’m glad that’s solid Australian currency and not, say, those silly Canadian dollars.

If this suggestion gets up, perhaps send it to Adam Leto, SSAA (NSW) Inc, PO Box 1001, St Marys NSW 1790.
He’s their new Communications Officer at HQ in St Marys as of about a week ago. Alternatively, their head office (and indoor range at which they train juniors) is on 30 Power Street, St Marys.
