Johannesburg is one of nine cities that in a couple of weeks will host Al Gore’s Concerts Against Warmening. Naturally:

Johannesburg recorded its first confirmed snowfall for almost 26 years overnight as temperatures dropped below freezing in South Africa’s largest city.

In other musical warmening news, Turkey is back in.

(Via Harry B.)

UPDATE. Correction; Turkey is out:

Less than three weeks after Al Gore, the environmental campaigner and former vice president, visited Istanbul to announce its participation in the round-the-world Live Earth concerts on July 7, organizers announced yesterday that the city had been dropped from the roster of nine sites because of a lack of interest coupled with security concerns in advance of general elections on July 22, Reuters reported. … In South Africa, organizers seeking to stimulate lagging ticket sales moved the Live Earth concert to the 18,000-seat Coca-Cola Dome in Johannesburg from a site 45 minutes by car from the city, Reuters reported.

UPDATE II. Has actual scientist Reid Bryson seen Gore’s film?

“Don’t make me throw up,” he said. “It is not science. It is not true.”

    1. The way the weather is shaping here in NSW, it doesn’t seem Algore will be bringing a warm snap to Sydney on July 4. Low pressure systems are all over the map at present down in the roaring 40s, all inevitably making their way up the east coast with loads of arctic air temperatures.

Al and the usual 30-year cooling cycle seem to have coincided, much to Al’s chagrin.

    1. Thanks to Margot’s Maid for providing those policy guidlines from the ABC, particularly this one:
7.4.1 The ABC is committed to impartiality: where topical and factual content deals
with a matter of contention or public debate, a diversity of principal relevant
perspectives should be demonstrated across a network or platform in an
      appropriate timeframe.

There! I feel reassured that when they do get around to showing “The Great Global Warming Swindle” that discussion of it afterwards will be with the same reverence shown to Mr Gore’s Opus. Did anyone hear anybody on the ABC question the assertions of “An Inconvenient Truth”? (It has been around for the best part of a year now, and has the status of holy writ).
If not, then impartiality demands that none of them question, undermine or otherwise attack “Swindle” either. No ifs, no buts. No panels invited by the ABC’s steering committees, no Tim Flannery, no compere pushing the agendum.
“Oh, perhaps we better include both films in a discussion group wankfest.” A bit late for that, girls and boys.

    1. Excellent item here about growing numbers of sceptical scientists.

      Gun quote:

Mathematician & engineer Dr. David Evans, who did carbon accounting for the Australian Government, recently detailed his conversion to a skeptic. “I devoted six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian government to estimate carbon emissions from land use change and forestry…

Evans noted how he benefited from climate fears as a scientist. “And the political realm in turn fed money back into the scientific community. By the late 1990’s, lots of jobs depended on the idea that carbon emissions caused global warming. Many of them were bureaucratic, but there were a lot of science jobs created too. I was on that gravy train, making a high wage in a science job that would not have existed if we didn’t believe carbon emissions caused global warming. And so were lots of people around me; and there were international conferences full of such people. And we had political support, the ear of government, big budgets, and we felt fairly important and useful (well, I did anyway). It was great. We were working to save the planet!  But starting in about 2000, the last three of the four pieces of evidence outlined above fell away or reversed,” Evans wrote.

    1. Al Gore should just stay in the northern hemisphere and do us all a favour.

The southern winter’s cold enough already.  Johannesburg has its first snowfall in yonks and in Sydney it’s still extremely chilly, with more snow on the nearby Blue Mountains, another gale heading our way and cold winds sweeping in from the blizzards in the Snowy Mountains down south.

Frankly, I’m looking forward to watching “The Great Global Warming Swindle” and hope it’s a bitterly freezing night when Aunty shows it, although I’m looking forward even more to seeing how the Collective presents it and the disdainful smirks patronising condescending  impartial discussion afterwards.

    1. #13 There’s more of that sort of thing in this, Margo’s Maid. Here courtesy of Conservative Grapevine.

Claim That Sea Level Is Rising Is a Total Fraud
      Interview with Dr. Nils-Axel Mörner.
      June 22, 2007 EIR Economics 33

Dr. Nils-Axel Mörner is the head of the Paleogeophysics and Geodynamics department at Stockholm University in Sweden. He is past president (1999-2003) of the INQUA Commission on Sea Level Changes and Coastal Evolution, and leader of the Maldives Sea Level Project. Dr. Mörner has been studying the sea level and its effects on coastal areas for some 35 years. He was interviewed by Gregory Murphy on June 6 for EIR.

And there’s even some Australian content:

This tree, which I showed in the documentary, is interesting. This is a prison island, and when people left the island, from the ‘50s, it was a marker for them, when they saw this tree alone out there, they said, “Ah, freedom!” They were allowed back. And there have been writings and talks about this. I knew that this tree was in that terrible position already in the 1950s. So the slightest rise, and it would have been gone. I used it in my writings and for television. You know what happened? There came an Australian sea-level team, which was for the IPCC and against me. Then the students pulled down the tree by hand! They destroyed the evidence. What kind of people are those? And we came to launch this film, “Doomsday Called Off,” right after, and the tree was still green. And I heard from the locals that they had seen the people who had pulled it down. So I put it up again, by hand, and made my TV program. I haven’t told anybody else, but this was the story.

Well at least the jinx part fits. Perhaps we should all be focusing on the loving part so that Al fits the theory perfectly. Goebbel Warmists operate that way selectively gathering (fabricating if necessary) evidence to fit their theory.  Doing the same for Al will prove the new theory.  Yup, that’s it:

Well I didn’t think I’d see the day I’d agree with something Costa does but perhaps, as we have been continually warned, we have now reached that tipping point.

And this from the Treasurer of the NSW State Government which recently set up a new government mega department called the Department of Environment and Climate Change!

Climate Change? – What’s That? I wonder what Costa thinks as he signs off on the State budget allocating funds to this mob? A waste of money perhaps?

Because today’s news talks of a Mammoth rescue for woman in blizzard

From the story: “A woman suffering an asthma attack inside her home sparked a massive rescue operation that resulted in 29 people battling through a blizzard for almost 10 hours.

Snow and storms had killed the power and trapped the 24-year-old in darkness at her property in Michelago, a small town about 50 kilometres south of Canberra.”

“An army of rescue teams battled through the waist-deep snow to reach her, bringing with them three four-wheel-drive ambulances, four firetrucks, snowmobiles, sleds and chainsaws.”

Ok Gore, Flannery.  Come clean.  Where are you?  Have you been in this area or are your proxy disciples taking up your cause?
