The ABC finds a cuddly criminologist:

A criminologist on south-east Queensland’s Gold Coast says Monday’s fatal shooting in Melbourne does not represent an escalation in bikie violence.

The Federal Justice Minister says Australia needs uniform laws on outlawed motorcycle gangs but Bond University’s Professor Paul Wilson says governments should avoid driving the gangs underground …

Professor Wilson says authorities should try to establish a dialogue with the groups.

Slightly diminishing the Professor’s call are several “also of interest” items listed at the same page, including:

Bikies charged over nightclub fight

Bikies charged over toddler’s drive-by murder

Bikies suspected in brutal pub bashing

UPDATE. Fugitive bikie Christopher Hudson, wanted for the shooting murder of Brendan Keilar, has been arrested in Wallan – birth place of Ned Kelly, as it happens.

Have we learned nothing from Rotary?

Seriously, are we under siege from a giant twat plague or what?

    1. We just need to apply some simple conflict resolution strategies.

Firstly, we invite waring gangs to a weekend in a rural retreat, let’s say Heard Island.

Then we involve them in a group bonding activity, let’s say hunting, kitting them out with the necessary equipment.

Then we employ a ‘harmony officer’ to help them smooth things out.  Someone with a track record of bringing communities together, like Keysar Trad.

      Come Monday morning, problem solved.

    1. Before he moved to Queensland, Paul Wilson was at the Australian Institute of Criminology here in Canberra and would regularly appear on the local news to offer opinions on things criminal.  I remember a local columnist, Ian Warden, commenting on Wilson’s excessive publicity-seeking behaviour.  One opinion attributed to Wilson by Warden was that Canberra had a high homicide rate because the abundance of trees and other plants meant it was easier to dispose of bodies.

    1. Professor Wilson is extremely well regarded by his students for his high opinion of their research / papers. He is always so impressed by their efforts he permits himself to piggy back their research for his latest books / article etc.  Sometimes even acknowledging the researcher formally.  Sometimes not.  Anyway, that was his reputation at QUT when my brother went through a course he taught.  I have no idea what he does at Bond Uni, except to see his face and worthless opinion in the media whenever they want an expert opinion on the latest crime spree.  They should just interview the local police patrol – they see and know more about crime and root causes than Wilson will ever discover from his “research”.

Yeah I had the displeasure of walking in Brisbane City along George Street today – it should be renamed “wind-tunnel” street.  The wind was like sticking your head in a freezer being fanned by a … fan?

    1. So perfesser Wilson and Kimmy the not feminine feminist are in agreement. The only way to confront evil is through dialogue. Any cultural/religious/criminal tendencies can be addressed and corrected through mutually respectful conversation.  Isn’t that nice?  Everyone knows that bikers are the most loveable and cuddly creatures on the planet. They’re just misunderstood.
Gawd!!!! May each and every pacifistic pseudo-intellectual talking head be bashed repeatedly like a baby seal with the clue-bat.  Do they also think we can re-educate pedophiles into understanding that their behavior is naughty?

    1. “Bikies”must be an Ozism of some kind.  Is it a generic name for motorcycle gang members, or the name of a specific gang?

In the US, for example we have the Hells’ Angels and the Banditos, but they are all “bikers.”

    1. Here’s the rule of thumb that should be kept in mind when considering such folk:

Give them an inch and they’ll take your life.
But first, they’ll strap you to a chair and force you to watch your family members be raped, tortured and murdered one by one, then you’ll get your turn.

Is it beyond reason to assume that cash rich Bikies are paying for media friendly influence?

Lets face it academe have become guns for hire to crazier people than Bikies.

I don’t mind the occasional anti-war song as long as the artist doesn’t make the effort their life’s work (ie: Dixie Whores).  1952 Vincent Black Lightning is a great song, although I am more partial to Del Mccoury’s cover.  I stick with bluegrass whenever I can.

    1. Bikie gangs are crime gangs. Crime is how they pay the bills.

      But is it organized crime?

I reckon they’re just a bunch of lifestyle misfits, with no declarable income and not much vision. I mean, where’s their ambition? Ya can’t take over the world just peddling hooch and a few small firearms. They need to get a bigger plan, make some strategic acquisitions… maybe even look into investment opportunities in today’s energy markets.

Or alternatively, perhaps they just need a new religion. Any suggestions?

    1. Hell’s Angels! I think I’ve got it!

It’s time to put those ill gotten gains into secure investments for the future.

In spite of what many analysts may say, whale blubber-based biofuel futures are trending bullish this quarter in a polar bear market for cetaceous products. So here’s a tip for all youse dollar flush bikies…

Get a prospectus from Paco World Fisheries.

Of course, there’s no need to go too clean too fast.

Paco World Fisheries was deregistered in 1972 for over-fishing in international waters, and yes, the Tasmanian registered Chinese ship Pak Ho Bulker washed ashore at Byron Bay just this week in mild conditions. But these are minor transgressions that a simple knee-capping or inner city shooting can set straight. Overnight.

Let’s not forget, with the global economy comes global warming. That means global responsibilities. The future of the gang is a global future.

You might need to get used to cigarettes from places nobody ever heard of and chicks on the back of your bike that still can’t say a word that anybody can understand.

So protect your image. Invest with Paco World.
