A front-page beat-up in Fairfax’s Sydney Sun-Herald:

Controversial Muslim leader Sheik Taj el-Din al Hilaly is planning an assault on three Labor seats in the state election – including that held by Premier Morris Iemma.

Sheik Hilaly is considering running against Mr Iemma in Lakemba, a safe Labor seat and the heart of Sydney’s Islamic community, in the March 24 election.

Followed a few hours later by:

Earlier media reports indicated Sheik Alhilali would stand for Mr Iemma’s Lakemba electorate in Sydney’s south-west.

Sheik Hilaly’s spokesman Keysar Trad said today that the mufti will not stand …

Pity. Those campaign speeches would’ve been spectacular. In other election news, Hillary is running for President.
