Place your bets, folks; how many years is Fat Dave going away for?
UPDATE. Ha!
UPDATE II. “My story,” writes Shannon, “bears some frightening resemblance to the plight of David Hicks.”

- Time served plus three – a total of eight years.
Plus, no copy of Harry Potter and the Elders of Zion
Harsh.
- To paraphrase Mark Latham, I reckon Hicks will be home and out of jail/gaol by Christmas. I suspect he’ll get a little bit more than the 5 years served (i.e. a small sentence once the 5 years are taken into account) followed by a prisoner transfer to Australia, after which the US wont care if there’s a low-key controlled-release or whatever.
I wonder what Mamdouh Habib did, relative to David Hicks? At this stage it doesnt seem Hicks actually did that much.
- He will not get anything like what Lindh managed to bargain for. Afterall Hicks is not an American and therefore was lucky enough to go to Guantanamo Bay rather than cop the full force of the law the US reserves for its own citizens.
My guess is he will get three to five at most, will be in Adelaide by June and out by Christmas.
The fat prick might even walk.

- I’ll go for the same as Habib, fifteen, less the five already served.
Unfortunately. If we can’t hang him, I’d settle for 50 years.

- My ideal scenario is : the tribunal chairman takes on board the prosecution’s recommendation of a sentence of 10 less the 5 served, and then ignores it completely on the grounds that they have to send out the strongest possible message to other would-be traitors that this is a game you play for keeps, then proceeds to give him 20 with no reduction for the time spent as a POW.
- Fifteen total, ten to serve.
It will be interesting to see if the Indians want to have a chat with him over his little bit of shooting practice into Kashmir.

- Home Sweet Home for Mohammud: (from the Daily Telegraph)
If Hicks is relocated to Australia in coming weeks or months, he will probably be transferred to Yatala’s G-division, the highest security facility in South Australia.
John Justin Bunting and Robert Joe Wagner – the men behind the gruesome Snowtown serial murders – are both jailed at Yatala. One of the state’s most deranged criminals, Bevan Spencer von Einem, also shares a cell at Yatala.
He is the ringleader of the notorious group of paedophiles and murderers dubbed the “Family”. The group was behind the sex killings of five young men in Adelaide between 1979 and 1983.
While other inmates may be famous for their heinous crimes, none is more colourful than killer Michael Barry Fyfe, nicknamed the Birdman of Yatala because he was once allowed to keep a rainbow lorikeet in his cell as a pet.
Perhaps ominously for Hicks, Fyfe has a habit of turning on fellow inmates. He was serving a 25-year sentence for attempted murder and assault in 1995 when he stabbed Trevor Tilley, a former policeman turned rapist, to death in the prison kitchen.
He has since assaulted and attempted to kill other inmates, admitting to Yatala prison authorities that he finds it difficult to control his temper.Posted by Margos Maid on 2007 03 30 at 02:40 AM • permalink

- #24, #29:
I am not sure of the timing but if Australia was officially allied with the US in regards to the Afghanistan battle, then it could well be that he fits the legal definition of having taken up arms against his own country during a time of war. That is the most strict definition of treason in most western codes, iirc.
And, it does not matter if the Talib was an “official military” when the issue of treason or other such criminal issues are being discussed.
The only thing the Talib murderer gangs not being official uniformed national military has any real bearing on is whether or not members of such an outfit would qualify as protected persons or qualify for POW status under the GC.
Since the Talib was simply a loose knit gang of murdering thugs and not an actual national uniformed military, no member of the Talib qualifies for any protections once caught.
- Re: Update II Shannon. Evidently she’s thankful to David Hicks for opening her eyes to appreciating her freedom. A product of the lovely liberal education system both the US and Oz enjoy these days. Be thankful to those who would destroy you and your way of life for the freedoms we all enjoy. Protest and spit on those who actually protect those freedoms. I don’t know about you, but I won’t be passing the torch to today’s youth until they pry it from my cold dead hands.
- Nic (#19), I agree – three years is about right, but if they made me share with Marilyn Shithead, I’d ask to stay at Gitmo!Posted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 2007 03 30 at 05:04 AM • permalink
- Shannon: The result of a ‘progressive education’. So self righteous, full of ‘huggly cuddly’ self loathing in the lefty style. If she plans a future in literature, her stance and style have already swamped some sections of the media. Although, with some of the personalities ‘graduating’ and moving on to the Labor Party, she could find an opening there. Fairfax also needs sanctimonious self righteous scribes to peddle this type of heart string drivel. Talk about the SOSE generation, I am afraid it is finally starting to come to fruitation and to think they will be able to vote one day.
- I would like to think minimum of 20 years. It is not just what he has doneor not done, it is what he intended to do had he not been caught.
It was his intent to return here and contract others to his evil ideology. What would we have to say if he was freed early and then brought down an apartment building or tunnel?
David- Dawood can NEVER be assimilated back into our society and will have no concerns about killing others if it means he can go down or up in firestorm of martyrdom.
He will want to avenge us more for his imprisonment. Who will employ him?trust him or feel comfortable in his presence. He is a pariah and should get life.
God help us all and the father that spawned him.

- The whole reason he was never returned here to face charges was that there were no charges to face, unlike the British detainees. The laws now in place to deal with Hicks are, of coure, not retrospective (thanks to the Greens and the Democrats – the ones who have screamed louded over his detention in Gitmo while being responsible for screwing up the legislation to get him here for trial). For the Government to charge him with anything will look like persecution. However, without taking a guess at the sentence I’m sure that the extradition parameters will be sufficient to keep Hicks locked up for whatever remains of his sentence no matter who’s in government. No Christmas pudding on the outside for Dawood – not that the fat bastard needs it.

One OpinionDifference of Opinion we look at western society and how muslims can integrate. Will it work in our modern, secular society.I don’t recall any other regligious group having special programmes dedicated to them in this fashion. Nor special “government representatives”.

As for Shannon, she shouldn’t blame her high school for her weight gain. She should have watched her diet and exercised regularly. Besides, she has grown up a lot since she year 7, so some of the weight gain and filling out is entirely natural. Now what other similarities were there with Hicks at Guantanamo Bay?
- #78 Kae. Its Jeff McMullen ABC. Former Channel Nine 60 minutes. George Negus SBS. Former Channel Nine 60 minutes. Got the connection here. All too old and living in the past, or failed commercially, so the ABC serve us these failed ideologues for their propaganda. At least we are not swamped ad nauseum with advertising. Can Islam work in our secular society or will there always be conflict?
No and yes.
And what attitudes need to change to smooth the path ahead?
Heard the one about the frog and the scorpion?
- Counterpoint this week:
Neil James: … A number of Al-Qaeda training manuals at different levels of Al-Qaeda training…in fact, at every level…basically said the first thing you do if you’re lifted or arrested or detained by a western democratic government is scream ‘torture’ at the top of your voice for the simple reason that there’ll always be people in western societies who will believe the worst of their own governments. Even if you’ve never been tortured you’ll automatically elicit some sympathy from the more gullible, and it’s also a handy protection in legal cases, just like many criminals when they’re captured say they’ve been verballed by the police when they later confess. It’s a classic accepted method by terrorists to scream that they’ve been tortured, even if they haven’t. Anyone who looks at this with any element of critical judgement, you have to say that yes some of them may have been tortured but it’s pretty unlikely that all of them have been tortured all the time in the custody of western democracies.
- At least little Shannon is only 17 years old. When she’s 40 and still spouting this nonsense, then we can consider her a typical moonbat and/or tenured university professor.Posted by CrankyNeocon on 2007 03 30 at 07:54 AM • permalink

- Five more years if we’re lucky, but I wouldn’t even bet on that much. If any servicemen on active duty are reading this, if you encounter any jihadis please, PLEASE, PLEASE do not take prisoners. If we have learned nothing else from the cases of Mo Dawood and Mamdouh Habib, I hope at least we have learned that justice for jihadis can only be assured from the barrel of a American/Australian serviceman’s gun. It is absolutely useless trying to achieve justice and defend western civilisation via its corrupt, greedy, psychopathic and parasitic legal profession. God knows the Aussie diggers didn’t beat the Japanese on the Kokoda trail in WWII by taking prisoners. Mo & Mamdouh and their vermin lawyers show us that the diggers were not just brave, but incredibly wise as well.Posted by Jim Geones on 2007 03 30 at 08:34 AM • permalink
- He walks: he’ll get five years, minus time served.
When he gets out, he’ll have a brief world tour, speaking to fawning crowds in Oz and the US.
Ninety days later, the leftards having put him to good use, they’ll spit him out like a watermelon seed. He’ll try to find a job, but he has no skills and frankly is not very bright. Given the choice of joining Cindy Sheehan on the Forgotten Leftard circuit, or going back to al Qaeda, he’ll choose the latter.
By this time next year, he’ll have been killed in Iraq – or, if Congress forces a withdrawal, he’ll be one of the triumphant forces of insane Islamism that’ll be riding high in Baghdad. There, he’ll take up his new career as rapist and murderer.
And the Left will rejoice at his triumph over the forces of repression.

“Shags” is a term I have not read in many years. Now the term ‘eye candy’ is a terminology I find interesting.
- Aha, here’s something we didn’t think of and it’s been cleverly tagged by young Victoria of Central Coast NSW in the Australian –
“I find it interesting that no one has yet commented on the fact that, with their incredible control over the prisoners on the Guantanamo gulag and their diets, that it would have been entirely probable that they decided to fatten the sacrificial lamb before they brought him to market. If they increased the number of calories available to David Hicks and he had nothing better to do than sit around his cell and read and eat, combined with the lack of exercise afforded him, then of course he would have put on weight recently, thus giving the lie, conveniently, to all those who had been saying how drawn and thin he looked. As for the healthy tanned complexion, how are we to know that it wasn’t spray on tan?”The pate de foie gras summertone explanation. It’s so obvious yet I didn’t think of it

And leafing through yesterday’s glossy Sydney Magazine – with Pete Garrett on the front cover I find a page dedicated to the Catmeat Sheikh who is lovingly interviewed by Jack Marx with the faithful Keysar Trad translating
Example of this sh*t
“When he first came to Australia in 1982” translates Trad “he knew so little about Australia he thought it was just one or two hours from the Middle East. The trip took so long he wondered if he were travelling to another planet. And when he looked down from the plane and saw all the red slanting roofs, he thought they were the tops of tribal tents” Hilaly frowns and shakes his head “What sort of backward country was this?”
Well he loved this backward country he stayed and stayed and stayed – stuff that pesky visa

I still say, that the intel he would have provided, without being present in the discussions, to a 5.56 ‘slotting’ while he stood guard armed with a AK47 near an old Russian T52 tank. Dawood, is a pathetic anti-semitic wannabe. It just shows how desperate the Jihadists are for recruits, when they attract that sort of element to their ranks. - From Shannon:
How lucky I am to have been raised to think for myself and make my own decisions about my social, political and religious inclinations. [Emphasis mine.]
She thinks for herself and then makes her own decisions about her inclinations. It is unfortunate that she wasn’t raised to understand that actual thought consists of much more beyond her inclinations, and that the decisions she’s so inclined to make are unreliable.
She has reason to “enter the wide world” with trepidation because she “can no longer be certain that my basic rights as a human being will be defended by the ‘civilization’ that I live in.” The very thing that made her inclined to put cynical quote marks around “civilization” is the thing that puts that civilization, and her in it, in a great deal of danger indeed.
