Lack of recent postings due to nationwide celebrations for Makybe Diva the Wonder Horse. Meanwhile, in other celebration news:

Iran’s Ministry of Education announced on Sunday that 20 million students in primary and secondary schools across the country will chant “Death to America” on Wednesday to mark the anniversary of the seizure of the United States embassy in Tehran on November 4, 1979.

Local radio presenters are happy to join in:

SBS radio presenters have been encouraged to refer to US President George W. Bush as “the world’s foremost terrorist” and an “evil mastermind” by the office of a senior manager.

    1. Like the cult in one simpsons episode, the cult of death peace(TM) feeds its people on a diet of promised utopia and mindless chanting.

    1. Pff.  Iran, PLEASE.  Struggling to define yourself by opposition to America?  Canada called, they want their spot back.

    1. I think it is vitally important to document everything possible about Iran, given their stated goals of developing nuclear weapons, developing long ranged ballistic missiles and the erasure of Israel from the map, it doesn’t seem too likely that Iran will be around for very much longer and having a record of its existence might be nice.

    1. Iran was slapped on the wrist by the UN [or was it even that?] for imprisoning the whole US Embassy staff in 1979-80.
In 2005, it requires all its children to chant ‘Death To America’, just after demanding Israel be wiped off the map. And
it’s still obstructing the UN’s nuclear ‘watchdog’ [it’s good at watching] after admitting many years of successful lying to it.

Looks to me like just another Saddam-type regime which is ‘under control’ and we should all ‘learn to live with’.

Thanks UN for your international leadership.  Over to you.  No, maybe just ask Russia, Germany and France’s opinions, if they’re not subject to commercial confidentiality.

    1. I’m waiting for reports of Western teachers encouraging their students to take part in the chant, in the name of “understanding the culture of Islam”.

    1. More importantly, how should we observe Great Satan Day?  Will there be a Satan-Burger on the McDonalds menu?  Can we buy a Chevy Satan Utility Vehicle?  Come on America, there’s a whole new underworld of marketing just waiting for you.

    1. Tonight on SBS…
8:30pm: Not just a return to Abu Ghraib, but a re-re-re-return on the Dateline program. They just can’t get enough of that push-button outrage apparently. Then it’s off to chat with the chronologically confused Joseph Wilson.

Did anyone see last week’s Dateline program??? It was hilarious. Negus was talking to the U.N.‘s High Commissioner for Human Rights, Louise Arbour, and all he could come up with was babble about Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib. He must have mentioned Abu Ghraib half a dozen times, but each time he called it La Ghraib or something. You should have seen it. It guess it would have been hilarious if it wasn’t so excruiciatingly embarrassing to watch. Poor George! Poor STUPID George!

    1. Oh come on, give Iran a break.  It tried opposing New Zealand and their dangerous flocks of sheep. But no one bother listening.

It changed it to Andorra and its flocks of sheep.  No one cared.

It moved on to Luxenburg, Nepal, Zambia, Chile.  No one even bothered to read their tirades.

No one cared what Iran had to say.  Until it chose the United States.  Now everyone listens and Iran is once more a nation to be reckoned with.  Especially with regards to any nations with sizeable flocks of sheep.

    1. Wow! They even fiddled with the date/time indicator on the ABC’s Four Corners site to make my previously censored comments look as though they had been posted on the 31st of October, even though as late as 12:00pm yesterday they hadn’t been, and comments dated the 1st of November had already appeared. That’s the first time I have EVER seen comments appear BELOW those already posted! This only happened after I threatened to send my censored comments to the ‘letters’ section of a daily newspaper and to post them on the Media Watch website.
I’m dying to see if and how they intend to cover up their cowardly censorship on the 7:30 Report site.
There’s definitely a scandal here, for someone who wants to severely embarrass the ABC! I will help anyway I can.

    1. Only 20 million Iranian schoolies shouting ‘Death to America’?  C’mon, the Australian teachers’ union need to get onto this – get the numbers out!  Let’s make it world Great Satan Day!  C’mon everybody, wave your hands in the air:

      Imagine there’s no Satan
      It’s easy if you try
      Sharia law to guide us,
      The infidel must die…

    1. #13 I agree, Brian.  Negus kept trying to get the commissioner to denounce the US for abuses, but she wouldn’t, and referred to the many abused prisoners in places like China -this was of NO interest to the egregious Negus.

It was Negus in about 1992 who complained on camera bitterly that Moscow was getting its first McDonald’s.  Sad about socialism’s demise, he wondered whether Russia could develop a better system that ‘isn’t like either.’
Free capitalism was morally equivalent to him, and must be opposed.

    1. Re: #18.

Gee Barrie, poor old George certainly has come down in the world since his heyday in the early 1980’s hasn’t he? I remember one hard-hitting interview from 1983 when Negus asked pop singer Boy George if he was gay!?
      From that to “Al Ghraib.”
      What an ARSEHOLE!

    1. Yeah spiny-five days of race riots in France.
Meanwhile slightly o/t -ABC am this morning and the presenter was wringing hands over -wait for it TEL AVIV’S UNDERWORLD WAR!
Yes folks, the terrible plight of a HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR (normally passe but in this case useful to them for effect)who survived a bombing in his apartment block.
It seems three men accidentally blew themselves up in the next room.
CIVILIAN BOMBINGS it seems have “claimed the lives of SIX INNOCENT PEOPLE in the past two years.”
Um and how many INNOCENT ISRAELIS (when threatened by OTHER Israelis they become suddenly INNOCENT according to ABC) have died at the hands of Palestinian suicide bombers in the last two years.
Next item on eradicating Ashfield’s PIGEONS in which a participant states that “Howard is crapping on the people”.
Followed by Lisa Miller forecasting the end of the C.W.A.

To the tune of “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair”:
I’m gonna grab that Ghraib as long as I can,
I’m gonna do Ghraib grabs, they’re all in the can,
And then some Gitmo grabs – it’s all in the plan,
And send them on their way!

    1. Davy Dave,
By “not graphic” I meant that they were not bloody and gory, and showing inner body parts hanging out all the place. The difference between “violence” and “graphic violence” in a movie discription?
Anyway, Little Green Footballs is saying that, according to the publisher, these photos are some sort of show or other put on. Something called “Maareke giry”? But it’s not a punishment for stealing bread, apparently.
