Sheikh Taj El-Din Al-Hilaly, May 16: “Mr Wood had worked with the American company Bechtel, and without that we could’ve probably freed Mr Wood on the first day of our arrival here … the group holding him considers this as direct backing of the occupation … We support the Iraqi resistance, the legitimate Iraqi resistance against occupation.”
Douglas Wood’s first words after being rescued: “God bless America.”
And God bless the Louisiana National Guard:
Louisiana National Guardsmen were part of the mission that led to the June 15 rescue of an Australian hostage in Baghdad. Members of the 256th Brigade Combat Team were assisting Iraqi soldiers when they found 63 year old hostage, Douglas Wood.
