GoughFest 2005 was great fun, even though BLF goons tragically failed to show up. Diverse crowd: academics, lawyers, students, former lefties, soldiers, writers, Brits, Americans, editors, straights, gays, youngsters, oldsters, the tall, etc. One highlight (well, one highlight I can remember; it was a big night): an animated conversation between economics philosopher Rafe Champion and Australia’s Funniest Home Videos executive producer Bryan Cockerill. You don’t get those sort of meetings at just any blog bash, you know.

We should do this more often.

    1. re ‘the tall” – it is time that ‘aussiejim’ was outed as David Williamson, who writes very tough scripts

    1. What, no brawl?  What kind of blogfest is that?

Seriously though, glad you all had fun and good conversation, and we would like some details please, as well as more pictures.  You know, for those of us who could only be there in spirits spirit.

    1. Whathisname wasn’t there?  Oh, I wouldn’t have been soooooooo pissed if I travelled completely around the world to where ever Australia is just to whoop some ass and he not even showing up.  Of course, I guess I could join Rebecca and PW and ski some on those beautiful Australian alps and drink some of that famous Australian hot chocolate.  I’d also like to visit Innsbruck and Vienna and some other Australian cities.  You Aussies are very lucky to have such cultural treasures.

    1. Heh, truth to tell the BLF membership probably voted for anyone but Gough at the subsequent election, so weren’t interested in a bit of biff when they basically agree with the RWDBs (although the reasons may not entirely overlap).

Speaking of which, perhaps another gough fest should be held on the 30th anniverary of the actual ‘hit Gough with multiple baseball bats’ election night?

    1. Thanks RebeccaH. Actually Tim, as you would have expected, we were talking VFL and especially the Tasmanians like Royce Hart, signed up for a suit and five shirts!

    1. I especially like the paintings on that site, the leopard print one in particular. The fact that each one has a little story to go with it is a nice touch too.

    1. Thanks for organizing the bash, (or lack of it, due to BLF no show) Tim.

    1. Great work for organising Goughfest2005. Of course I only made the pilgrimage based on the premise that some ass whoopin’ of BLF members would be in the offing but had to settle for a night of alcohol consumption and good conversation.

Nice to meet everybody that made it along.
