The West Indies last won a Test away from home against a major opponent seven years ago. Tonight they’re closing in on South Africa at Port Elizabeth; six more wickets needed.
UPDATE. Cricket Watcher’s Journal:
Windies are running! Windies are breaking free … free of the four walls! And there’s just one Kallis jailer-man to stop them. They have sprouted wings and history beckons these boys.
UPDATE II. Kallis out. South Africa need 225 runs; Windies need five wickets.
UPDATE III. Another wicket down. Cricinfo comment: “West Indies need to keep it tidy and this match is theirs. South Africa have a mountain to climb.”
UPDATE IV. Only two wickets remain.
UPDATE V. WINDIES WIN! First time ever in South Africa.
Uh-oh are we looking at the genesis of another England humiliation in the future?

To understand cricket you need to understand the circumstances under which it appeared. You see, originally baseball was a game you played between battles, cricket was a game you played between wars.

The stat thrown around at the MCG on Dec 26 was that half of the first day crowd at the MCG would be more than the total 5 day crowd at Port Elizabeth for the Windies/Jaapie Test. That means about 30,000 in total over 5 days in PE.
Who cares. They lost!!!
So we all sing together ‘I’m a dutchman born and bred, thick in the arm and thick in the head’
For your further annoyance I present this tidbit. The difference between the British and the Chinese can be summed up thusly…
The Chinese took writing and came up with calligraphy.
The British took baseball and came up with cricket.
