Historian and academic Christopher Sheil achieves a new personal best:
Menzies led the Liberals to defeat in 1941 …
• There was no election in 1941 (Menzies won in 1940).
• The Liberal Party did not exist in 1941 (it was founded three years later).
• Menzies wasn’t the leader of the UAP when it ceded power to Labor in 1941 (he’d resigned months previously).
Oh, well. At least his spelling has improved.
UPDATE. Sheil replies:
I know the history.
Sheil’s spelling has improved? Does that mean he’s transferred his allegiance to all of the cretins of the world?

Poor bugger. He even used Preview. It wasn’t his friend either.

I’ve seen this new “PacoPerView service advertised on TV. Apparently they meet you in a dark alley, with a brown paper bag, into which you dump a shedload of cash. At some indeterminate time, date and location, they promise to broadcast something amazing! (TBA)
I’d normally be somewhat skeptical, but the same approach is working for Rudd and the gang…

BTW, Sheil does remember that Menzies’ Liberal Party ruled for 23 years when they were re-elected after Labor made a pig’s breakfast of everything? If he’s pissed off at Howard’s 11 year term, how would he feel if Howard did a Menzies and returned??

Sheil is living proof that if you don’t understand the past, then you can’t understand the future.

Oh, well. At least his spelling has improved.
He finally learned that you can’t spell ‘cretin’ without an I ‘i’?

The professional fool appears to be attempting to continue the recent rewriting of history also attempted by Richard Ackland in the SMH on 7/9/07.Ackland doing one of his bitchy-sneer pieces on the subject of APEC suggested that “we haven’t had so much distraction since Bob Menzies sent the F-111s overhead to remind us at election time that the Indonesians were about to invade”.Inconveniently Bob had retired as PM in January 1966,Holt had taken over on 26/1/66 and was followed by Gorton on 10/1/68.The RAAF didn’t get its hands on an F-111 until September 1968.Ackland may have been confusing Menzies with Gareth the Cheryl-Shagger who did send an RAAF aircraft to terrify Tasmanian would-be dam builders in 1983 while he was Labor’s Attorney General. At the time of publication of this rubbish I took the trouble to advise Media Watch of Ackland’s blatant revision of history but without any real expectation that they might use the information to chastise a soul-brother.I wasn’t disappointed.
OT but talk about rewriting history to suit your bent, these from today’s stories on the funeral of Crazy John Ilhan:
AAP By Jeff Turnbull October 26, 2007 06:12pm: “In keeping with Muslim tradition, they and other women (Mrs Ilhan and her 3 daughters)were asked to move away from the coffin so prayers could begin.” (Emphasis added)
Herald Sun rewrite By Roger Franklin October 27, 2007 12:00am
“Then, in keeping with Muslim tradition, they moved away so prayers could begin.”— Nick

If he’s pissed off at Howard’s 11 year term, how would he feel if Howard did a Menzies and returned??No chance of that, regrettably. It would be nice to have another 3 years of competent government, but right now I personally expect Krudd’s $ the Krazy Komrades to win with a 13 seat majority. The cycle has turned, simple as that, and the KKK will win this one. C’est la guerre!.
That’s reality, good things do not go on for ever. As funny as it might have been to watch neocommie heads explode, it is not going to happen.
And so, preparations for harder times should commence. I’m saving hard to build up a better cushion of liquid cash.
Tye good thing about this is that we will get the chance to ask the neocommies why their KKK are not changing foreign policy like the neocommies imagine they will, and why they are about as good at economic management as the Consumer Goods Planning Division of the Kremlin in 1976.
SO we will get considerable amusement value out of the usual suspects as they whine… about Krudd&Ko. There is a bright side.

Shiel comes from the Lyndall Ryan school of historical scholarship. Ryan, acclaimed by some to one of Australia’s pre-eminent historians, admitted to Channel Nine’s Sunday program on 25 May 2003 that “historians are always making up figures”.

- And Gough Whitlam won in 1975 too. That bloody Karl Rove sent wronwright back in the Tardis to steal the election from him, and set John Howard up for the win in 1996.

On the bright side the housing affordability problem will come to a swift and painful end. 18% interest rates tend to do that. Should be good pickings at the end of the Rudd bust though, for anyone allowed to keep their money.
Ive managed to get fairly well set up in the last few years so barring any outright theft by Rudds mob will be ok.
But I remember trying to get a job just out of school just after the “recession we had to have”, I worked for a string of businesses nearly all of whom went under or laid off staff due to lack of money. Be a sharp learning curve for a lot of people though.Posted by thefrollickingmole on 2007 10 27 at 05:52 AM • permalink

Mole, at present debt levels, 10% rates will have the same impact as the ALP’s 18%.
I can survive a fair bit higher than 10%, but never underestimate the ability of the ALP to take a thriving economy and screw it over. Remember the old joke about Keating as Treasurer?
Q. “Why is Anita Keating always on top when they shag?”
A. “Because Paul Keating can only fuck up.”MarkL

Sheil’s quotes need to be taken in the context of…. something or other. You have to remember the context. Context is all. All lies can be excused if the context is correct.
Did I get the apostrophe in the right place?

#38 – Hadn’t heard that one. Nice. Reminded me of the even older joke about Marg and Gough in bed late one night. Margs whispers to Gough, “do to me what you’re doing to Australia. Only do it slowly”.
Personally I don’t mind if rates go up. No debt + some investments in term deposits. Plus the Rudster said he raise the threshold at which you have to register for GST. Nice – I might be able to de-register and pocket the difference.

Re the update, Sheil’s full comment is hilarious, and delicious with irony:
Thank you Sir Henry. I know the history, and presumed others did such that there was no need to spell it out. Of course, one forgets that there is no accounting for the fuckwits around the place.
One can almost imagine Sheil snarling with anger and frustrating as he types his witty non-reply to someone who pointed out the glaring mistakes in Sheil’s “reasoning”, exactly as he has always done when caught out.

What a remarkably crude, vulgar little man this CS is.
In all honesty,we all made silly mistakes. When someone calls you on it and points out that you have said something stupid, or (worse)gotten basic facts wrong, surely the only dignified recourse for a civilised human being is to thank them for the correction and move on?
Where DO the neocommies get the idea that howling spittle-flecked invective into the internet is a superior course of action? No wonder there are so many neocons about. Being a neocommie seems to equate to being in a schoolyard full of twelve-year-old oiks.
Lord, I am so glad I grew out of being a socialist.

Wrong again, CS. Fuckwit accounting is pretty much what commenters here do 24/7.
