New job for me: opinion editor at the Daily Telegraph. Column will appear Saturdays. Blog will appear here, daily, as usual.
UPDATE. Aside from a year or so as the Bulletin’s news editor, I’ve mostly been a freelancer during the life of this site—which wouldn’t have survived without reader support and contributions. Thank you for that, and thank you for all today’s friendly comments. Especially, thanks to site czar Andrea for running the place; drop by her site and send some cash.
- Let me be the first to say congratulations on the new appointment, Tim.Posted by Pedro the Ignorant on 2006 11 20 at 07:17 AM • permalink

- Best of luck Tim; the Bulletin’s gone to pack without your balancing influence – I’ve stopped reading it since you left, and my mum’s discontinued her subscription! We at chez Ubique are all looking forward to plenty of challenging and penetrative comment from you at the Tele. You and Piers should make a great “odd couple”.
- Well done, Tim – great news.Posted by Villeurbanne on 2006 11 20 at 08:45 AM • permalink
- Tim, permit me to be the 23rd person here to congratulate you. You’ll do a great job at this, at at everything.
Once Miranda recovers from her fit, and we can safely extract the pencil from her mouth, I’m sure you’ll be getting felicitations from her, too. Right now, she’s merely curled up in a fetal position, pounding her head on the floor, spluttering words randomly through the froth: “Blogsheep!…Iraq! …grrrrrr!…Howard!…Blogomeister! . . .Waaaahhhh!”
- Congratulations Tim. Now I’ll have to begin visiting the Daily Telegraph. I haven’t visited The Bulletin since you left there.
I must say I’m impressed with the DT for persuading you to come work there. I’m hopeful that MSM are beginning to understand that their readership or viewership are decreasing precipitously due to a general perception that they are subjective liberal mouthpieces. Hiring conservatives such as you helps, at least somewhat, in dealing with this problem.
But they still have a long way to go.

Hit Andrea’s tip jar a couple of weeks ago in high appreciation of her troll removal skills, which are formidable. Recommend we all do the same!

- I wonder if an opinion editor is the same as the editor of the opinion page. Or is it a lofty title bestowed on very respected persons who write a column for the newspaper.
I think Mark Steyn was named an editor for some publications. I’d put you in the same category as Mark. I fully expect to see you mass syndicated in 5 years time earning bushel baskets* of dollars. I bet you won’t remember us then.
* Australian bushel baskets, which are of a different size, being on the metric system

- Ummm, Tim, I hate to rain on the parade, but…The Daily Telegraph?
I mean, c’mon. No one uses the telegraph anymore. I know I haven’t used the telegraph in….well, this century, anyway!
Western Union doesn’t even use the telegraph anymore, do they?Well, congratulations, anyway. But I think you should go with this newfangled Internet thingy, and forget that 19th century technology.
- Just adding to the chorus of congrats and good luck! So glad that the site will continue.Posted by Polish Frizzle on 2006 11 20 at 08:00 PM • permalink
- #50 Wronwright…you’d be surprised how they throw around that title “editor.” All kinds of layabouts and scoundrels get to call themselves that.
Congrats Tim on scamming someone else out of money for the privilege of doing this ink thing.
P.S. … uh … Frilly Skirt Billyclub Grrl? Email? … uh … Farouk wants it. Yeah, that’s it.

- Wonderful news Tim!
I get the Daily Telegraph each day, including Saturday to counter the effects of the SMH which is thrown into the front garden each day for my partner’s benefit
The one thing I really love in the SMH is the Target Word which I do every day to ward off dementia
