Gaia’s ugly and unsuccessful involvement in Formula One racing is almost at an end:

Honda Racing will unveil its 2008 Formula 1 challenger on January 29 … It is believed the car will no longer carry the “Earth” livery that adorned this year’s disastrous RA107, with which the team scored just six points.

Maintaining some environmental cred during off-season testing, Honda has lately disguised its cars as endangered polar ice floes.

UPDATE. In other happy automotive news:

Australians bought new motor vehicles in record numbers last year, with annual sales passing the million mark for the first time …

Four-wheel drives (27,329) were a major contributor to the overall
market growth of 87,000 additional sales in 2007.

This market grew by 16.0 per cent rebounding from a contracted market in 2006.

Everyone should drive over to Catherine Deveny’s place to celebrate. The Age found a cycly lining to this beautiful cloud:

Bicycle sales outstripped those of motor vehicles for the eighth consecutive year in 2007, according to figures to be released today.

Well, they do have to replace all the bikes squashed by 4WDs. Note: those who recall the feminist slogan “A woman needs a man like a fish needs a bicycle” may be amused to read in the Age of “Cycling Promotion Fund policy adviser Elliot Fishman”.
