Journalist and author Antony Loewenstein:
Australia’s national broadcaster continues to confirm its descent towards the capitulation of the Murdoch and Packer media empires.
In related news, Antony’s first book is soon to be released. I wonder who wrote it for him.

- What is probably more accurate is if the book was rejected by the ABC Board, and if the book is subject to considerable positive attention by commercial publishers as has been suggested, then doesn’t this just suggest that the new right wing board appointments are just operating in keeping with the ABC’s traditional lack of commercial acumen?

- Seems a natural for Evan Thornley’s Pluto Press. Though Chris Masters does have a good repuation (doesn’t he) and so a commercial publisher should not be hard to find.
Looks to me as though there might have been some political consideration in this case. If you accept that the ABC should be in the book publishing business, then should you let such considerations get in the way of commercial assessment?
- The ABC’s extraordinary promotion of Flannery’s latest book (not published by the ABC) shows it’s potential as a publisher which, unrestrained, could put other local publishers out of business. The board’s decision not to publish the Masters book was no doubt based on commercial considerations.
This all begs the question. What was to be Masters’ deal and what is the ABC doing in the book publishing/promotion business anyway?
- For Immediate Release in the Australian Market!!!!
In anticipation of the publication of Antoine Lowenstein’s book, Paco Commercial Furniture Co. is now offering its new, improved remainder table. Built of solid oak, and reinforced with steel brackets, PCFC guarantees that this table will be able to hold mountains of Lowenstein’s dopey opus. Also, check out our new shredding and pulp equipment lines!
- I wonder who wrote it for him.
Let’s just say….a thousand monkeys just got a lot richer.

Paco Commercial Furniture Co. is now offering its new, improved remainder table.
Now hold on just one second here. I think the overwhelming majority want the P.T. Paco, Abu Bu-Bu Muslims One and Only Carny/Circus, before we start moving tables.
Beside the fact the ushie and Tim have indicated where you can get the solid base of your freak side show. Hamburg, Germany.
Furniture…b-o-r-i-n-g. Islamists having ‘fun’…ok got me there…b-o-r-i-n-g, too.
Ummmm, Seneca? Do we say ‘How’ or ‘Toga Party’?…:).
- How have the Murdoch and Packer presses capitulated? To whom? The federal government? I thought the coalition was supposed to have sold out to them. Picture it, folks; the coalition and the Murdoch and Packer presses are capitulating to each other. What perfect gentlemen.
I wonder if Loewenstein will ever write a sentence that does not consist of meaningless, nonsensical rhetoric.

- I hope Loewenstein promotes his book with a few personal appearances. I, for one, will be there to ask him questions about the factual inaccuracies that plague his writing and his support for the Iraqi insurgency.
I also reckon his latest blog attack on AIJAC (Australia/Israel Jewish Affairs Council) could get him into trouble.
“AIJAC is being creative with the truth (and my forthcoming book provides greater detail to refute their allegations.) Simply put, AIJAC actively smear (and try to censor) any individual or group that dares challenge their God-given interpretation of Zionism.”
If you go to AIJAC’s website and take a look at the QCs, judges and serious business people on its Board—any sane person would want to be very sure of their facts before publicly accusing them of “being creative with the truth” (lying) and “actively smearing” anyone.
- That rotund little attack terrior Nanny Attard sank her pointy teeth into the Sun Herald for befriending Gatto (She said in the hopes of getting a personal scoop) and savaged the knees of Channel nine and John Alexander,McGuire and co..
However she went straight for the groin of the ABC Board tonight on Media swatch, complaining that the expose on Alan Jones -Jonestown- which she said ABC Enterprises COMMISSIONED to the tune of 1oo,ooo schmackos…had been put to sleep permanently by the Board.
Why would ABC enterprises commission a book about Alan Jones you may well ask..with OUR money as a bribe -er incentive.
She said she was raising the subject because she didn’t want people to “perceive the ABC as editorially timid or vulnerable”.
Gosh she was so tired after all that whining and begging for tidbits that she clean forgot to APOLOGISE to last week’s subject, little soccer ambassador Daniel or his angry mum. They accused the ABC via Mw of peddling spin to suit their own political agenda.
Never mind Nanny,I’m SURE you’ll remember next week. Danny’s waiting!
- I’ve almost given up on expecting intellectual rigor, honesty or even simple decency from the likes of Flavius Antonius, but is it too much to demand simple, basic, proper grammar.
*sigh* If only someone had bullied his teachers when he was a callow youth…

- On the other, the Palestinian people struggle, some peacefully, some violently, for survival.
Excuse me? Which are the “peaceful” Palestinians, Antony? They don’t seem to be getting much press.
Expecting rationality and fairness from a man who writes like a kid reporter for the high school paper is hopeless.

- I commented on Ant’s site, to basically say that the ABC board probably received very expert legal advice and has acted accordingly.
I also made the point that Alan Jones as a citizen is entitled to the protection of the defamation law like anyone else. I also pointed out that Alan Jones to my knowledge has never tried influenced the law of defamation in Australia, and that as a media person himself, he has more of an interest in loosening rather than tightening that law.
Anything rude or threatening in that? I can’t see it.
Needless to say, my comment has not been published. Could it be that he censors opinions he doesn’t like? It is his private property to do so if he wants, but don’t let him then bullshit us with ‘freedom of speech’ crap.
I asked for an explanation on why my comment was not published. I’m waiting.

- #32 Effing:
He’s banned me too just because I disagreed with him yet he lets vile pigs like Addamo post without consequence.
Once I managed to post on his site under another name by first posting an anti-semitic comment and I was accepted straight away. So that is my advice if you want to post something first do that because once your accepted he doesn’t check every post you do. I had about 1 week of posting before he banned me again.
- Thanks Melanie, that’s interesting to know. An insight into the incestuous ways of the left – they don’t want to listen.
Tim B, I think it is time for a bit of a look into Mr Antony’s censorship practices.

- Paco—Oak?! WTH? You were directed to use balsa for a very good reason. Flimsy table collapses, books damaged and unsellable, employees pissed off, managers throwing tantrums, customers startled and frightened, maybe even hurt and suing = big orders on Flavius’ next book, you betcha not.Posted by richard mcenroe on 2006 07 03 at 01:35 PM • permalink

- “oh come on comical, to even use the word israel in a sentence rather than the objective ‘zionist’ is racist and bigotted. Any person that doesn’t hate israel is a racist.”
What? What? I am loathe to check Lowy’s site and give him a hit…but, dear merciful God, I hope I don’t be comin’ across any of Addamo’s posts anytime soon. To paraphrase Dennis Miller, I’d call him a scumbag, but that would insult perfectly harmless bags of scum.
- #34 Melanie
I read your comments regularly on Loewenstein’s blog. You were always polite and respectful. I am shocked that he banned you.
He banned me to, but that was because I regularly called him a hypocrite. But you—I’m shocked—what an arsehole he is.
He is a hypocrite censoring free speech but complaining about the “Zionists”. He displays the same bullying tactics he claims to despise in others.
- melanie, ushie, effing, and everybody. No need to get upset really. Loewenstein, and Addamo (if they are separate people at all), and others of their kind, are simply failed human beings. They never reached the level of ordinary human tolerance and kindness common to the majority of people. They spew nastiness at Jews and white westerners, but if Jews and white westerners didn’t exist (and they weren’t what they hate so much), they’d find other victims for their innate rage. It’s a self-hate, really, which must make their existence painful and ugly. Be grateful that you are not them.
- Over the last year I have been shocked at some of the comments on Loewenstein’s blog posted by his contributors.
The fact that he actively reads and censors his blog and bans polite people simply because they do not agree with him demonstrates that the anti Semitism and Jew hatred is left there because he agrees with it.
At times, I asked him why he was tolerating a particularly vile and discriminative comment about Jews and he responded by ignoring me and leaving the offensive comment on his blog.
Guess he is living vicariously through his repugnant followers.

“unfortunatley it had to take some prodding to get that racist comment removed. If no one had said anything, Ant would have quietly let it slip – just like he did with other blatantly vile, anti-Semitic comments. And that I’m afraid, speaks for itself.”
- Just for the record Melanie,
Addamo made the comment “they (the jewish detractors commenting on Antony’s blog) are just like the money grubbing yids in Palestine.”
Not his exact words – it was a little more offensive than that and I’m quite sure the word “dirty” was in there somewhere as well.
Usually, when something offends Antony, the comment is deleted promptly (usually within 2-5 mins) after it was posted. This particular comment was there for a lot longer, until I (aka comical Ali) had to do a little “prodding.” I actually regret that now, because the comment isn’t there for the record for all to see.
But take other comments which Antony didn’t delete like this one –
http://antonyloewenstein.com/blog/2006/06/27/hate-grows/#comments
I am bit puzzled, if anti-Jewish politicians get into positions of influence, it is called hate. If anti-Arab, or anti-gay politicians or anti-anything politicians assume positions of power, is it also called hate? How does this work? One anti-Semitic politician does not make it a resurgence of hate. If I were Polish I would be very offended. You guys need to grow up. It is perfectly normal for people of various hues to enjoy influence now and again. He may be anti-Semitic, but may also be in favour of something or the other that has absolutely nothing to do with Jews; which may account for his influence. This Jews ‘centre-of-the-universe’ attitude is extremely counter-productive and even offensive. Are we to assume that this Jewish-all-the-time monomania is expected of us whether we want to or not?
That post drew praise from the usual suspects and silence from Antony.
- #33 & #38: To me, nothing says “failure” like a solid mountain of unsold books. Pile ‘em up high, I say. Besides, I’m doing it for the children: what if some little tyke happens to be crawling around under the table when it collapses? The legal liability could drive Paco Enterprises out of business; such a blow to capitalism could revive communism virtually overnight.
- #44 Kidon: Right from day one when Antony began moderating the comments he has allowed this to happen. Vile comments are abundant yet plain debate is banned. He will let a few slip past to give the illusion that he is allowing debate. With Pilger calling him the ‘truth teller bar none’, just goes to show how diluded these people really are.
- #44 Kidon: that was quite a barrage of hate in the comments thread you linked to – and they are his regular and sole supporters. You held up very well.
Antony doesn’t distance himself from comments like many bloggers, instead he says hate comments won’t be tolerated. I guess it is hard for him to see hate in views he holds himself.
- Now Alex Mitchell has used his Naked Eye column (Sun Herald) to praise Loewenstein’s book—despite the fact that it is embargoed by MUP until July—I figure I can say that I read a pre-release copy too. And it is a pile of shit.
Take this, for example:
On page 116 Lowenstein writes about “ Chomsky’s principled stance against all state violence”. He blatantly ignores the fact that Chomsky didn’t batter a filthy eyelid at the Cambodian attrocities or that the self-hating Jew befriended the terrorist organisation –Hizbullah. “All state violence”—my arse. Lies, lies.
- Paco — But squishing a baby might raise you up greatly in Our Dark Master’s eyes… such random evil deserves notice…Posted by richard mcenroe on 2006 07 03 at 11:59 PM • permalink
- #42 RebeccaH,
You make the point that Loewenstein is motivated by self loathing expressed through some twisted projection or some such. Perhaps some unresolved nappy rash incident in the far distant Freudian past. Personally I would not give him that much credit, it implies character at least.
I believe it is far more likely that he is motivated simply by the desire to inject himself into the limelight. Too dim to learn how to play drums, then how do I get to be someone? Student politics seems a natural and obvious compromise.
And it is getting to be a well trodden path these days, the vile and traitorous approach is a fast track to notoriety. Attack the host culture, liken it to the Nazis, sit back and watch the locals complain. Start cashing cheques from the speaking engagements that result from your increased stature. Dirk Moses is another one of these creatures, only slightly more refined.
The main benefit of this approach is that, sadly, it is almost guaranteed to work.
My two cents.

A vile slur! Antony Loewenstein’s book was entirely written by him, except for the bits that weren’t. That is to say, his thoughts are entirely original, especially for the ones he took from other people!
