Six peace activists were recently arrested in Wisconsin for plonking themselves in the road and blocking traffic.
One is named Bonita Sitter. Another is called Bonnie Block. Born for this, they were.
The human traffic barriers received $109 fines. In other Wisconsin court news:
On Jan. 18, 2006, Adrial White of Racine, Wis., spotted three teens breaking into his girlfriend’s car, which was parked in his driveway. Mr. White, 30, fetched his gun and confronted the hoodlums. When one came at him with a tire iron, Mr. White shot him to death. For “the crime” of self-defense, he will spend at least 25 years in prison.
- Didn’t Mr. White understand that he should have tried to “reason” with the tire iron carrying car thief? I mean, if they just sat down and talked about it, you know, opened up a diplomatic dialog, they could have worked things out. But instead of allowing himself to be beaten to death, as any good progressive lefty should, he chose to shoot the little bastard. I blame Bush and the Rethuglicans. - But there’s more to the story. Yes, some punks were breaking into the car. But Mr. White confronted them with a gun when he didn’t have to. The man who was killed was shot in the back while running away, not attacking Mr. White.
There is much to be said for getting tough on criminals, but this case is not a simple case of self-protection.
- In Florida it doesn’t matter what part of the body the criminal gets shot in if you kill him on your property. In the South in general the “ass full of buckshot” parting gift to an unsuccessful miscreant is legendary. I can’t say as I feel too sorry for the poor little dead car thief.Posted by Andrea Harris, Administrator on 2007 02 25 at 12:15 PM • permalink
- Pheh. Any third rate hippie chick can block traffic in Madison. A hardcore Wisconsin anti-war protester tries to block traffic at the Merrill Ice Drags.

- There’ve been a few comments here that I’d like to respond to. Since I live in Wisconsin I know a little about this case.
The primary issue is that Mr. White’s life was not – at least at first – threatened. Even he admits to this. For a property crime, should he have used deadly force? Should he have confronted them at all, or leave it to the police? Please note that he lived in a modern well-policed community, not a boondocks. Different people will draw the line in different places. For me, break into my house and you’re dead meat. Break into my car and I’m calling the cops.
The link that Tim provided did not mention that the dead man was shot in the back. That would seem to be relevant. The man that supposedly was wielding the tire iron was shot in the jaw, but survived. I have no problem with that. He claims that he was not threatening Mr. White. Well, sucks to be you, loser.
The jury in this case had a hard time with it, and they’ve come in for a lot of criticism. But they sat and listened to the evidence, and they hashed it out in the jury room.
Having said that, I hope Mr. White wins on appeal.
- Leaving it to the police is fine, if you chose it, but it is not my choice.
We have the right to property, and as such, I think we’ve the right to defend it.
That he was shot in the back is irrelevant. He chose to be shot by choosing an occupation (crime) in which such things are increasingly common. If he didn’t want to be shot in the back, all he had to do was refuse to live a life of crime.
We have the right to property, and as such, I think we’ve the right to defend it.
We acquire property by trading time out of our lives to others. When someone steals property, they are, in fact, stealing part of your life. While no one should risk their own life to defend property, I have no problem with those seeking to steal losing their life.
