Feminist receives email. Is outraged.
(Via Saint)
ANIMAL UPDATE. “We all know Hugo Chavez is a Mickey Mouse despot,” writes BB, “but check out his picture in this story.”
DOPEY SHEILA UPDATE. Marieke Hardy also struggles with jokes.
- Such thin skin, so easily offended.
I remember when an old friend, a leftwing hippie, tried to include me on his Bush-bashing group emails. I would reply to the group with humor and unassailable logic. Maybe a little sarcasm as well. Invariably one female of the group would screech to me about how upset she was having to hear a dissenting opinion.
Does anybody besides a knee-jerk leftist feel a need to dissect a joke as if it were a frog smelling of formaldehyde laid out on a table in a high school biology lab? BTW, is Islam overwhelmingly characterized by “ethnicity”? Many Muslims are non-semitic, and not all Arabs are Muslims, etc., etc.
“Blogger on a Cast Iron Balcony”, indeed! More like Blogger with a Bad Case of Cast Iron Smugness.
Now for the less fun part: having a little talk with my friend’s husband next time we get together.
What a treat that will be for him. Lets hope the poor sod has easy access to alcohol, posson or a rolling pin.

It’s OK to verbally bully an entire ethnic group in my society, which is already undergoing considerable hardship (suspicion, false imprisonment, hijabs ripped off in the street, rocks thrown) because of the actions of a criminal minority.
To unpack that: Mohammad, who condemns all forms of terrorism against innocent victims, had a suspicion his daughters Fatima and Arifah were associating with non-muslim men. After weeks of false imprisonment, the girls were taken outside. They had their hijabs ripped off in the street. The neighbours gathered. There were rocks thrown. The criminal minority had been punished.

We can humiliate people of another ethnicity by humiliating “their” women.
They’re pretty good at humiliating their own women.
Because women are “owned” by the people (who are presumed to be dudes) of the other ethnicity.
Er, Islam teaches that women are chattels, not of the same value as men, two women equal one man, at best… I’m sure someone can find the relevant quote for me. Women can be beaten. Women are guilty when they are raped and must be punished.
We are at war with all muslims. Humiliating (up to and including raping) “their” women is a legitimate war tactic. (Oh, and we also accuse them of having medieval thought processes!)
I haven’t heard of any Muslim women being raped in Australia because they are muslim (or at all, actually), I’ve only heard of the non-muslim women raped by muslim men. As for accusing them of having medieval thought processes, this feminist has most definitely lost the plot. Women must cover up because men cannot control their base instincts, that’s why women cover up so much.
It’s OK to verbally bully an entire ethnic group in my society, which is already undergoing considerable hardship (suspicion, false imprisonment, hijabs ripped off in the street, rocks thrown) because of the actions of a criminal minority.
Verbally bullying members of the Religion of Perpetual Indignation (who if you say they are violent and don’t fit in to society and there are problems, will threaten with violence…).
It’s not the actions of the “criminal minority” that I base my views on. As I mentioned on another blog elsewhere in the blogosphere,
I don’t define muslims by the ranting of a few, but by the silence of the many.
She finishes with this:
Now for the less fun part: having a little talk with my friend’s husband next time we get together.
I hope he tells you to piss off.
Feminist NOT Outraged—now THAT’s a story!

I have a sister-in-law who fits this feminista mould.
Apparently I am rude because I raise politcal issues when family dinners occur – where I am the sole conservative and there are ALP Parliamentarians and Union Officials to burn.
I also destroyed the birthing experience for her by asking why in this day and age of western medicine anyone would give birth without pain relief? If they offer me a local I usually ask for a general, if it is available.
Oh, and I tell her children what is and isn’t unacceptable behaviour in my house – apparently that is being nasty to the child.
After a successful martyrdom, the cat received 72 scratching posts.

“How many feminists does it take to change a lightbulb?”
“That’s not funny!”

Funny, I’ve always thought that it’s quite acceptable to tell visiting kids (and adults if necessary) of the acceptable behaviours in my home. I know people who have banned their friends’ children because they wouldn’t set limits for the kids.
I’m disappointed that she didn’t recognize the oppression and humiliation cats face on a daily basis from living in a speciesist power structure and that those root causes could drive any cat to such desperate action.

I have every confidence that in her next blistering post, she will bravely ignore any perceived personal slights, to take on the real seat of injustice! You go sister!

But wherever you visit, just remember to be respectful of cultural traditions.

Whilst the internet definitely has its upside (hot girl on girl action, gun blogs and penile lengthening products at the press of a button) it has also been roundly abused by fat hairy chicks spouting opinions their husbands didn’t give them.

I was about to make a post alluding to the alleged fact that feminists don’t have a sense of humour.
However, after seeing this website, I have had to concede that this position might be a stereotype that is not just insensitive, but highly inappropriate.
So, when the facts change, I change my mind. What do you do, sir?

It’s not easy making funny jokes when you are under the yoke of oppression. No prizes for guessing the nature of the oppressive regime that used up all the good jokes.

In her comments (scroll down) is this gem:
It’s all very well for us, with our bulging knapsack of white privilege, to think that it should be OK for us to make hate speech about other groups in society, but we tend to discount how it really feels for the attacked group.
Never heard it called that before. It puts a whole new spin on the “is that your bulging knapsack of white privilege or are you just happy to see me” line.
But what do you really expect from an idiot who can write “unthinking bourgeois symbolism” (here) and mean it?
“We are at war with all Muslims. Humiliating (up to and including raping) “their” women is a legitimate war tactic.”
I marvel at how your Feminist Logic (TM) allows you to go straight from a picture of a cat in a funny costume directly into accusations of rape.
You make that huge mental leap with such practiced ease! Have you been associated with the feminist movement for some time?
Deleted in 5,4,3..
I’m a little annoyed at Marieke’s prank. She might be flippant about “clock-watching”, but a lot of employers still aren’t. Once upon a time, you listened to the radio to check the time, yet here she is castigating anyone silly enough to believe her on one of the points where radio-listening is still important. I wonder if she thinks it’s important for people to pay attention to her when she’s propounding subjects which matter to her?

Of course, anyone who does REAL work, i.e. the working class, would probably have been at work by the time the lazy cow crawled out of bed to start her prank, but I still think she’s an unfeeling idiot.

Some heated posts on that first thread.
Full credit to Summers who makes the telling point that it would be way too much hassle to care about Iranian women being stoned to death, while in this country, inappropriate emails are sometimes sent.
Surely these emails must be our first priority. Once this is sorted, then – and only then – perhaps we can think about that other stuff.

my comment(and a bit of Kae’s) there
Muslims = suicide bombers.
– Some muslims are suicide bombers; some other muslims celebrate the first group and name streets after the first group; and a third group thinks the first 2 groups are insane. We can humiliate people of another ethnicity by humiliating “their” women.
– Are you assuming the cat is female? The costume looks less like a female arabic costume than a recycled Lawrence of Arabia costume. I can’t identify the sex of the cat from this angle. We are at war with all Muslims. Humiliating (up to and including raping) “their” women is a legitimate war tactic.
– I think that far, far, far fewer people than you think see rape as a legitimate war tactic. And an even smaller group supports cat rape under any circumstances. It’s OK to verbally bully an entire ethnic group in my society, which is already undergoing considerable hardship (suspicion, false imprisonment, hijabs ripped off in the street, rocks thrown) because of the actions of a criminal minority.
– Verbally bully with an image? Could you explain how a cat in a costume based on a costume worn by a member of a group bullies the group? And you think (group x) undergoes hardship so therefore (group x) is off limits? So, you would find a cat in a Darth Vader costume offensive/ bullying to prosthetic wearers.
Finally, I’m disappointed that you didn’t recognize the oppression and humiliation cats face on a daily basis from living in a speciesist power structure and that those root causes could drive any cat to such desperate action. It’s probably the lack of education and the grinding poverty that has led it to such extreme measures.

I think my marriage is built on my husband and I laughing at the same jokes. As solid a foundation as any, I say.
And I was sent this email joke myself a few days ago – by an attractive female friend who I’d consider to be very self-empowered. She had no problem laughing at the sight of a cat dressed up so ridiculously. Some people just aren’t happy unless they have something to whine about.
I just posted the following comment over there…
Very well, observed, Jack. Yes, some of us found this link via Tim Blair.
Not that there’s anything wrong with that: it seems to me that if someone posts something in a public forum, they’re inviting comment from people who disagree with them.
If they didn’t want such comment, then they would probably say it in a private email and not send it to people unlikely to appreciate it.
Of course, there’s always the risk of someone making private email public, but then we all understand how rude that is, don’t we?
James
I feel your outrage sister. I recently received an email headed – GIANT COCK. Viewing that preening rooster was a let down to say the least.
