Interested in processing a development application around Wollongong way? (Readers: “Who isn’t?”) Then you’ll be needing this handy guide.

There are Honour Society members in Calabria who are blushing at what is taking place in NSW. Far out. I realise that Sydney is famous for its “back door” dealings, but I didn’t realise the rest of the place had gone arse up.Posted by Infidel Tiger on 2008 02 25 at 10:20 PM • permalink
Quite OT, but do U.S. commenters have any sense of what effect the NYTimes hit-piece on John McCain is having on the political right? From the other side of the world, this masterpiece of NYTwittery looks like a spectacular own-goal for the left and a likely boost for McCain.Posted by s.r.intulom on 2008 02 25 at 10:28 PM • permalink

Just to clarify a few points, if you are a developer and want an erection in Wollongong you have to run it past the committee at the local eatery? Sounds a bit much to swallow if you ask me. Still once the foundations are properly laid and all the details are screwed together you could go at it hammer and tongs and get it up in no time.Posted by surfmaster on 2008 02 25 at 11:17 PM • permalink

That’s what it looks like from here, too. His fundraising numbers are up, plus it’s driven back into the fold plenty of those who sniffed that he was insufficiently ideologically pure. Even the remaining NYT readership (not exactly a conservative bastion) tended to dislike the story.
And by the way… Don’t insult Wollongong, or “I’ll come round to your house, and rip yer bloody arms off”
#11 Don’t feel sorry for Iemma. These are his best mates. In any other western democracy the NSW Labor right would be classified as a criminal organisation.
How much longer before Rudd abandons Iemma? Rudd will face the polls before Iemma and the sleaze has the potential to hit federal Labor. People might know the difference between state and federal issues but NSW Labor’s problems relate to the very party itself in NSW – and that includes federal MPs such as Debus who came from the NSW cesspit.
I am planning to go to Canberra with a few friends around the time of Kevni’s summit of 1000.
We plan to set up an embassy in proximity to Parliament House under the banner of The Unchosen Few.
We will be sitting in deck chairs, drinking beer around the Table of Knowledge where we will put our minds to work in solving the many catastrophes that are apparently about to befall this fair land called Australia.
We’ve seen the photo of Obama dressed as the genie of the lamp. Thanks to the miracle of time travel, here’s a future picture of McCain entering Tehran.
- Many years ago my father had dealings with B. Burkes brother in the (I think it was called in those days) departments of works, looking to secure a few contracts for his drilling operation.
The deal was stitched up and Mr Burke informed his staff he would be unavailable for the rest of the day.
He then rang a brothel and asked them to have one of his “closed sessions”.Dad pulled out of the deal, it was just getting to surreal and mafia like for his comfort.
Still sounds like not much has changed since the 80’s.Posted by thefrollickingmole on 2008 02 26 at 12:51 AM • permalink
Let me see if I’ve got this straight…
Applications for planning approval are received by Gong Council.
The planning sheila gives the developers and a couple of his mates a root or three.
The development application is then approved.
The planning sheila then gives another couple of the developers mates $50 grand of her own cash, but baulks at giving the ugly one a root as evidence that she is not completly without scruples.
It’s so long since local government has given good service to ratepayers that they just don’t recognise it, even when they’re rubbing their noses in it.
#20, Gubba, It seems some folks are already upset at how KRudd is running his talkfest.Posted by The_Wizard_of_WOZ on 2008 02 26 at 01:32 AM • permalink
#28, Whoa, that article is twice as long now as when I read it, and its a lot nicer to KRudd as well.
There was not a word about the co-chairs or Mrs KRudd when I read it first about 15 minutes ago. And that link came straight from the original article which also had a different headline.
Very interesting.Posted by The_Wizard_of_WOZ on 2008 02 26 at 01:37 AM • permalink
#26 – There wasn’t a problem until every bloke who’d ever erected a pergola, patio or back fence without council approval decided to seek a retrospective development application from Ms. Morgan.Posted by Infidel Tiger on 2008 02 26 at 01:55 AM • permalink
She’s not bad looking either. I wouldn’t mind lobbing one up her Gary Glitter to get my decking approved. I’d even go seconds to get the roof done.
Serious question though. Do you think she took all 3 on at once?? It sounds like a script of a dodgy 80’s porn movie. Why can’t girls like that work in my work place.

Organ is one of the old ‘Gong names. There’s an Organs Road in Bulli and Michael Organ was a Greens candidate in some election fairly recently.

Half your luck! I still do.
I’d love to weigh in on local council corruption and Labor party shenanigans in this fair city, but some of the players are still alive. And so am I. And I’m planning on keeping it that way.Posted by AlburyShifton on 2008 02 26 at 07:17 AM • permalink
