    1. Quite OT, but do U.S. commenters have any sense of what effect the NYTimes hit-piece on John McCain is having on the political right? From the other side of the world, this masterpiece of NYTwittery looks like a spectacular own-goal for the left and a likely boost for McCain.

    1. Just to clarify a few points, if you are a developer and want an erection in Wollongong you have to run it past the committee at the local eatery?  Sounds a bit much to swallow if you ask me.  Still once the foundations are properly laid and all the details are screwed together you could go at it hammer and tongs and get it up in no time.

That’s what it looks like from here, too. His fundraising numbers are up, plus it’s driven back into the fold plenty of those who sniffed that he was insufficiently ideologically pure.  Even the remaining NYT readership (not exactly a conservative bastion) tended to dislike the story.

    1. #11 Don’t feel sorry for Iemma. These are his best mates. In any other western democracy the NSW Labor right would be classified as a criminal organisation.

How much longer before Rudd abandons Iemma? Rudd will face the polls before Iemma and the sleaze has the potential to hit federal Labor. People might know the difference between state and federal issues but NSW Labor’s problems relate to the very party itself in NSW – and that includes federal MPs such as Debus who came from the NSW cesspit.

    1. Many years ago my father had dealings with B. Burkes brother in the (I think it was called in those days) departments of works, looking to secure a few contracts for his drilling operation.
The deal was stitched up and Mr Burke informed his staff he would be unavailable for the rest of the day.
He then rang a brothel and asked them to have one of his “closed sessions”.Dad pulled out of the deal, it was just getting to surreal and mafia like for his comfort.
Still sounds like not much has changed since the 80’s.

    1. Let me see if I’ve got this straight…

Applications for planning approval are received by Gong Council.

The planning sheila gives the developers and a couple of his mates a root or three.

The development application is then approved.

The planning sheila then gives another couple of the developers mates $50 grand of her own cash, but baulks at giving the ugly one a root as evidence that she is not completly without scruples.

It’s so long since local government has given good service to ratepayers that they just don’t recognise it, even when they’re rubbing their noses in it.

Serious question though.  Do you think she took all 3 on at once??  It sounds like a script of a dodgy 80’s porn movie.  Why can’t girls like that work in my work place.

No, a submission made directly to the Mayor is not a properly made submission.

It has to be re rooted throught the Planning Dept.

Organ is one of the old ‘Gong names.  There’s an Organs Road in Bulli and Michael Organ was a Greens candidate in some election fairly recently.
