Charles Moore on moral imbeciles:
You could criticise Israel’s recent attack for many things. Some argue that it is disproportionate, or too indiscriminate. Others think that it is ill-planned militarily. Others hold that it will give more power to extremists in the Arab world, and will hamper a wider peace settlement. These are all reasonable, though not necessarily correct positions to hold. But European discourse on the subject seems to have been overwhelmed by something else – a narrative, told most powerfully by the way television pictures are selected, that makes Israel out as a senseless, imperialist, mass-murdering, racist bully.
Not only is this analysis wrong – if the Israelis are such imperialists, why did they withdraw from Lebanon for six years, only returning when threatened once again? How many genocidal regimes do you know that have a free press and free elections? – it is also morally imbecilic. It makes no distinction between the tough, sometimes nasty things all countries do when hard-pressed and the profoundly evil intent of some ideologies and regimes. It says nothing about the fanaticism and the immediacy of the threat to Israel.

- History is repeating itself in europe, i think the next 5 or 10 years will show us which way it will go, if history is any guide it will be the french, belgians and dutch who are overun, and the british who will fight, things dont look good in sweden they will as always try to sit it out but will fall under islamic rule anyway,my own view is extremly pessimistic, we are seeing a low level civil war being waged in europe and we are losing it.
- How utterly tin-eared of Sir Peter Tapsell to compare the suppression of the Warsaw ghetto to Israel’s actions in Lebanon. Hezbollah is the genocidal entity trying to snuff out a population, not the other way around. Thus far, Israel’s actions in southern Lebanon have been if anything too restrained. I don’t know what a ‘disproportionate’ response to the launching of over a thousand rockets against its civilians would entail. I suppose the complete nuclear annihilation of Damascus, Tehran and every Lebanese citizen living with 30 miles of the Israeli border would count. Yeah, that would be disproportionate.Posted by David Gillies on 2006 07 29 at 05:56 AM • permalink
- “As well as being morally imbecilic, this narrative is the enemy of all efforts to understand what is actually going on in the Middle East. It is so lazy.”
Patience is beginning to wear thin. And it’s about time. You can feel his exasperation when he writes, “It is so lazy.”
I hope Europe, and especially England, find their spine. It isn’t good for the free world for them to fall. I will say, however, that if they do fall because they won’t give up the International Progressivism – and all the multicult crap that is killing them, they will have deserved to fall.
What if America tossed the UN out on its ear? What if we told the world that we are going to fight for our existence, and that we are morally right to do so?
It’s late and I’m dreaming with my eyes open.
- BBC World’s coverage of the ‘crisis’ in Lebanon is undiluted anti-Israeli propaganda. We are getting the full panoply of left tabloid manipulation.
Last night the guy at the news desk fed politically-loaded rhetorical questions – their usual operating method – to a man-on-the-ground while the second half of the screen was taken up with an extended shot of nothing more than a Lebanese child crying.
Their coverage of the Iraq War was a travesty but this stuff tops it I think.
Here’s the take of fellow-traveller, ‘The Guardian’:

- John Pilger is running the same line about the Warsaw Ghetto in his lastest piece in the New Statesman. He also offered up this little gem: “While European governments (with the honourable exception of the Swiss) have remained craven, it is only Hezbollah that has come to the Palestinians’ aid.” Oh, wonderful, Pilger defending the honour of Swiss bankers who profitted from the murder and plunder of European Jewry. I now understand his support of Hezbollah.
The mendacity and tenditiousness of Pilger is almost unique.
I’m inclined to say that the only good use one could put him to was to act as a human shield, but reflection suggests it would simply draw fire from all sides. And they would be right.

- I think the most disgusting part is the absolute refusal to take the actual words of Hizbollah for their meaning. In order to believe what these idiots believe, you have to totally disregard what the Hizzies say.Posted by JorgXMcKie on 2006 07 29 at 10:07 AM • permalink
- I’ve been hearing a lot on CNN about how Hizzy is providing food & shelter to its constituency – “just as it does during peace time.” This is insane. “Peace” is defined as the time when Hiz is permitted to fire rockets into Israeli suburbs unanswered; “War” is when Israel fights back.
These people are NUTS.
- Europe (including Britain) is going through the same paroxysm of “white guilt” and multiculti B.S. that America went through in the fifties through the eighties. Vietnam and our paralysis against the rising tide of Islamism was the result. September 11 was the wake-up call that let us know we couldn’t go on doing nothing.
What’s different now is that the world is faced with an enemy that, unlike communism, is perfectly willing to destroy the entire world in order to “save” it. Communists didn’t want to die any more than we do. These guys think if they die they’ll go the Big Brothel in the Sky. If the Europeans refuse to believe the evidence of bombings on their own soil, then nothing will save them.
At least America and Israel and Australia will go down fighting, if it comes to that.
- dover_beach,

That’s why it’s called, umm… pilgery.

- Imagine an attempt at fisking Pilger’s pilgery? What a thankless and pointless task. There isn’t enough time in the day and the product would not sway him or his ilk at all.Posted by dover_beach on 2006 07 29 at 08:11 PM • permalink
- This comparison to the Warsaw Ghetto is an obscene, contemptible lie.
The Nazis wanted to kill all the Jews.
Hizbollah wants to kill all the Jews.
What we are seeing now, as Israel deals with those who would continue the job the Nazis started, is what might have happened if the Jews of the Warsaw Ghetto had modern armaments and trained soldiers when the Nazis came for them.
If you want Lebanon once again to be independent, if you want Israel to survive, if you want Islamist terrorism and jihad defeated, then you must want Israel to kill as many Hizbollah fighters as possible, destroy its organization and equipment, and send the survivors packing into Syria. In particular Israel’s victory is Lebanon’s only chance to escape colonial servitude to Syria or Iran. To advocate saving Hizbollah is to advocate destroying Lebanon as an independent state, and to advocate destroying Israel and its people. It is those who advocate the latter, like Pilger, who are the heirs of the Nazis.
To appropriate the history of Jewish annilhilation to falsely attack the Jews of Israel is an evil lie. Pilger and his ilk are evil liars, and he knows it full well.
