WHY CAN’T THEY GET ALONG?
Obama wins in Wyoming - but the Guardian’s Andrew Rawnsley is worried about the Democrats’ rotten luck:
If the Democrats fail to take the White House this year, it will not be for the usual reason that the party chose a rubbish candidate for President. It will be because they had the rotten luck to have one too many formidable candidates.
That might explain the Left’s eagerness to narrow the field. According to an Obama advisor, the international loathing and division created by evil George Bush will be repaired by a more conciliatory government:
In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Samantha Power, who is a key member of the Presidential hopeful’s foreign policy team, says anti-Americanism is now “vehement” in the United Kingdom ...
The “special relationship” between Britain and America would, she believes, become stronger if Mr Obama won the White House because he would make voters in this country warm to the United States.
“Obama reminds people of the better angels of America.”
Power was subsequently fired after a warm, better-angels moment in which she described Hillary Clinton as a “monster”. (Full quote: “She is a monster, too — that is off the record — she is stooping to anything.” The phrase “off the record” obviously doesn’t mean much these days.) Meanwhile, at monster central:
... the combustible environment within the Clinton campaign, an operation where internal strife and warring camps have undercut a candidate once seemingly destined for the Democratic nomination ... Many of her advisers are waging a two-front war, one against Sen. Barack Obama and the second against one another ... dozens of interviews indicate that the internal problems endured by the Clinton team have been especially corrosive.
Rage you can believe in. Obama has his own haters, but, as Mark Steyn notes, they tend to be outside his camp:
As some aggrieved black activist sniffed snootily on TV, Barack isn’t really an “African-American” — unless by “African-American,” you mean somebody whose parentage is half-American and half-African, and let’s face it, no one would come up with so cockamamie a definition as that.
