SMALL TARGET STRATEGY
Kevin Rudd plans to withdraw one-third of Australian troops in Iraq. Gerard Henderson:
In July, Rudd said that Australia’s “continued presence in Iraq is making Australia into a bigger and bigger terrorist target” …
If Australia is a terrorist target with some 1500 personnel in Iraq under Howard, it will remain a target with some 1000 personnel under Rudd. Moreover, Rudd supports Howard on Afghanistan. The withdrawal of the Overwatch Battle Group may win votes for Labor, but it will not make Australia any less a target for terrorism.
Maybe Rudd thinks they’ll only attack two-thirds of us.
