QUAKE LATEST
Hugo Chavez blames capitalism:
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has blamed global capitalism for earthquakes hitting India, Pakistan and Afghanistan as well as for mudslides that have struck Central America and Mexico.
On his weekly radio and television call-in program, “Hello, Mr. President,” Mr Chavez said these catastrophes were nature’s answer to the “world global capitalist model”.
“This model is destroying the world. The world is in danger. Never has there been such disasters, hurricanes, droughts, torrential rains. Incredible! The world is dangerously off balance,” he said.
Well, if global capitalism caused the earthquake, I guess global capitalism can take credit for this, too:
Training camps used by jihadists battling with the Indian army for control of Kashmir were buried by landslides or left in ruins by the earthquake, bringing hope of a new opportunity for peace-making after a 16-year Islamic insurgency.
In other earthquake news, Australia has upped its aid contribution to $5.5 million. Private donations (through Australian agencies) may be made via sources listed here. Don’t give a cent to those Smurf-hating bastards at Unicef, please.
