LOCAL MAN STILL LOCAL
Texan Brian Boyko was one of many US citizens who vowed to flee America following George W. Bush’s election victory. The BBC recorded Brian’s vow last November:
Brian Boyko, a 25-year-old postgraduate journalism student, says he is serious about moving to Britain in light of Wednesday’s result …
“I think this election was our last, best chance of changing the direction the country is headed in,” he says.
Mr Boyko, a student of the University of Texas, feels more Americans will leave the country once Bush’s policies really start to bite.
“I think it’ll probably start with gay people and Muslim Americans, those likely to be the scapegoats. Something is rotten here. I’m just smelling it earlier than some other people.”
He plans to leave the US after he completes his degree in May.
Well, it’s May now, but Brian is still stuck in Texas with all those gay Muslim spacegoats. His plan – graduate in May, run away to Limeyville – has changed:
Brian Boyko … plans to graduate in August of 2005. Afterward, he plans to relocate from Austin, Texas to Wellington, New Zealand.
Sure he will. That’s why he’s currently applying for jobs. How many of those who’d said they would leave have, you know, actually left? Any of them? Did they even accomplish anything related to leaving, like looking at maps or hiring a removalist? Did they try to leave, only to be caught at the border and returned to the Halliburton labor camps? Why do these people make this same crazy promise every four years?
