LET TRACEEEE SWIM
Traceeee Hutchison is appalled by Victorian government plans to deepen Port Phillip Bay:
It’s all about getting bigger ships into Melbourne. Apparently that’s important ... all for a predicted $2 billion benefit to the national economy over 30 years.
Well, yes, Traceeee; international trade is important. And boosting Australia’s economy by $66 million every year for three whole decades might keep the arts grants rolling in for at least three or four of your mates. Still, Traceeee would prefer the bay be left to herself:
Yesterday morning I swam with a dolphin off McCrae. The sea was clear and inviting. I hope I can say the same in years to come.
We’re only talking here about a two-year dredging project. Imagine if Hutchison’s like had been at all influential when the Snowy Mountains hydro scheme was proposed.
UPDATE. Comment of the month, from ErnieG: “Why bother dredging? Won’t the water be plenty deep enough in a few years?”
