DICTATORSHIP OPPOSES RICE
The various enlightened entities who’ve decided Condoleezza Rice is a white-appeasing sellout will be happy to learn that their views are shared:
Zimbabwe’s state-run Herald newspaper today launched a vitriolic attack on US secretary of state nominee Condoleezza Rice, calling her anti-black and an apologist for “white sins”.
A weekly column compared Ms Rice to her predecessor, Colin Powell, whom it called an “Uncle Tom”, a put-down of a black who is overeager to win the approval of whites.
“She is a black woman who will be manly and white in her relentless assault on blacks, their liberties and their remnant and dwindling sovereignties,” said the column.
Who knew that Aaron McGruder was writing op-eds for Zimbabwean papers? Another Rice-despiser, the Sydney Morning Herald’s Mike Carlton, is all worked up about George W. Bush:
... this strutting Texan mountebank, with his chimpanzee smirk and his born-again banalities delivered in that constipated syntax that sounds the way cold cheeseburgers look, and his grinning plastic wife, and his scheming junta of neo-con spivs, shamans, flatterers and armchair warmongers, and his sinuous evasions and his brazen lies, and his sleight of hand theft from the American poor, and his rape of the environment, and his lethal conviction that the world must submit to his Pax Americana or be bombed into charcoal.
Difficult to know what was more repellent: the estimated $US40 million cost of this jamboree (most of it stumped up by Republican fat-cats buying future presidential favours), or the sheer crassness of its excess when American boys are dying in the quagmire of Bush’s very own Iraq war.
That’s almost every single anti-Bush cliche in just two paragraphs. Well typed, Mike.
UPDATE. It happened this week, just as Lileks warned. We were blinded by the Huey Stare:
It’s a staple of the comic; Huey is watching something on TV, and the TV says something that’s just SO IRONIC or UNBELIEVABLE, but maaan, so TRUE, and then Huey fixes us with that unblinking stare - AAAAHHH! I can’t take the penetrating force of MacGruder’s insight! No!
Only the brave may click.
UPDATE II. Re Mike Carlton, Bilious Young Fogey writes:
Not content with this stunning show of sheer pathetic moaning, he then claims that he was the cause of Mark Latham’s downfall. Arrogance coupled with stupidity. A beautiful combination. At least the SMH is privately funded - although media ownership laws are a form of taxpayer subsidy.
