MOTOONS A NO-NO: YUDHOYONO
Indonesian president Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono—say his name out loud in the manner of a boxing announcer; it’s fun—detects double standards:
Western media apply double standards when reporting on Muslims and are often ignorant about sensitive issues for the religion, Indonesia’s president was quoted by the Antara state news agency as saying today ...
He singled out the publication of caricatures of the Prophet Mohammad in Danish and other Western media.
Or the non-publication of those cartoons. Barely anybody ran them. The ABC blocked their airing. In fact, they were published more widely in Muslim countries than in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
"The publication of the Prophet Mohammad’s caricature has come as a surprise to all of us. Even more surprisingly, a number of Western journalists said they did not know that it was forbidden,” Dr Yudhoyono said.
It isn’t forbidden to Western journalists. Though you wouldn’t guess.

UPDATE. In other Indon-cartoony developments, Tommy Thomdeanm is a chance to win Iran’s anti-Israel cartoon contest (for a work that “shows the statue of liberty holding a book on the Holocaust in its left hand and giving a Nazi-style salute with the other"). An Indonesian online editor meanwhile faces five years in jail for Motoon publication.
UPDATE II. Motoons lead to German commuter murder plot:
The publication of caricatures depicting the Prophet Mohammed was the trigger for a failed attempt to bomb passenger trains in Germany, police have concluded.
One of the main suspects, Youssef Mohammed el Hajdib, who was arrested in Germany on August 16, “interpreted (the cartoons) as an insult to Islam by the western world,’’ Joerg Ziercke, the director of Germany’s federal police, told Focus magazine in an interview to be published on Monday.
He and the other main suspect in the failed plot, Jihad Hamad, who was arrested in Lebanon on August 24, were also influenced by the killing of the al-Qaeda leader in Iraq, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, in June, the police chief said.
I said the name like a boxing announcer and, what do you know, it was fun. If I say it twice more will he appear in my lounge room?.

Unless, of course, WE roll over and submit...?

Even more surprising, it is not forbidden to all Muslims. Many, yes, which do not (in theory) allow any depiction of reality - thus use of geometric designs; or perfection - which is why some rugs contain at least one deliberately mistied knot.Posted by John Anderson on 2006 09 02 at 04:50 PM • permalinkThe Motoons were pretty ordinary for the most part, but there was one among the pack that had a useful message. Mohammed, rushing out through the gates of Paradise, meets a long line of suicide bombers: “Stop! Stop! We’ve run out of virgins!” Of course, only an infidel such as myself is going to laugh at that. The committed have no sense of humour - ‘committed’, (to quote Tony Tyler from
I HATE ROCK AND ROLL) meaning, ‘being in a state of mind where some things are more important than the truth.’Posted by SwinishCapitalist on 2006 09 02 at 04:56 PM • permalinkAh crap, where did that space come from?
Posted by SwinishCapitalist on 2006 09 02 at 04:57 PM • permalinkHere are two examples of the sinister mentality of Islam itself - from a national ‘moderate’ leader as well as from a terrorist.
Yudho gaols uncooperative editors for 5 years for some very innocuous cartoons [many aimed to insult Jesus and Christians are far worse]. He assumes he can censor SOME religious comment, but allows Bakhar Bashir to go free and preach hatred of infidels, and run suspect terrorist schools.
The terror supporter makes the sweeping connection between a single country and a single event to plan jihad war against ALL Western countries. In both cases, there is no understanding of freedom of expression or the notion of prpoportion and justice of application of ‘revenge’.
Both are simple, primitive fascist thinking.
Do we need more evidence to know we are dealing with an anti-freedom force in Islam everywhere? And we can’t just blame lack of education with Yudho. Will Australia, for one, protest his words and actions?
ah, that explains why 10 000 Christians were killed in Sulawasi and a lot more Melanesian Christians were killed in Papua New Guinea by an Al quada trained group who is being helped by the Indo Army.
When I pointed this out on my blog, a person claiming to love “peace” blamed the deaths, which have been going on since 1989, on Iraq and Israel.
Yup....all those headhunter’s kids in NewGuinea who are now Christians are killed because of Israel.

Jaysus, get OVER it! This guy sounds like some obsessive old ex-girlfriend: “He took the picture, and I said I didn’t like it, but he showed it to everyone at the picnic, even though I looked fat in it and I told him not to show it!” and that picnic was, like, five years ago.
In fact, all these “Muslim spokespersons” sound like someone’s bitchy, naggy old ex-girlfriend who just can’t get over herself, or anything else.
Sack up, hoes!
