YOUNG, RICH, AND SMART

Sydney’s Sun-Herald remarks of a 16-year-old fame gal:

She champions the war in Iraq, despises Michael Moore and thinks all fashion models are disgusting.

Who is she? Find out here.

  1. Do you think the SMH noticed the irony that they were the ones suggesting all these utterly inconsequential “icons”?  Fashion models, “style” experts?  Not to mention the condescension:  oh, look, a rich teenage girl.  We know what she’ll want to talk about…

  2. Young, rich, smart and attractive.  Who knows, maybe we’ll soon see a whole generation of teenage girls wearing ‘F*** Michael Moore’ tops.  Or maybe not.  Still, I can dream…

  3. Dammit, vegetarian. And blond, I hate blonds.

  4. Well, you can’t be sure about the blond… and maybe if you bring her a meat-lover’s pizza, you can turn her…

  5. As famous blond Gillian Barbieri said at a game show, once, looking at her fellow contestants… “I don’t think any of us has curtains that match the carpet, if you know what I mean…”

  6. PS — I woulda spelled Barbieri’s first name properly but Tim used up all the “J’s”...*

    *OK, except that one.

  8. These adorable young ladies can be more effective in changing the views of the younger generation than any number of politicians and bloggers and if other children of aging rock stars find out they can get their pictures in the paper for taking contrarian views, watch for more of the same.

Peaches?  I’m glad she grew up to fit her name.

  12. “Talking to her is like playing a peculiar word-association game, with me throwing out random nouns to see what reaction they will elicit.”  Hmm, change nouns to verbs and adjectives and you have a day at the DU.  Or should that be abjectives?

  13. O, why am I married?
    Why am I over forty?
    Why am I a coupe
While the girls are all sporty?

  14. Eh.

There are plenty of smart, right thinking 16 year old girls in the world who don’t lounge around in “kitten heels” with their 21 year old “DJ” boyfriends counting their piercings and daddy’s money that I would be much more interested in hearing from and about. I guess it’s just my reflexive American puritanism that makes me automatically dismissive of rich celebrities.

That said, she does seem to have a head on her shoulders, and a remarkable insight for a girl of her age and lineage. Here’s hoping she makes waves in the world, and gives up the silly vegetarianism for some greasy fish and chips.

Is it just me, or does the tone of this seem to be the same way one says,

“She eats babies, likes Satanic rituals and drinks the blood of the innocent.”

  18. You have to feel sorry for a kid growing up in that kind of atmosphere, with those parents.  Especially saddled with that ridiculous name.  I feel her political views are probably just teenage contrariness intended to piss off her father and his friends, but she has to made of some stern stuff.  Otherwise, she’d be tearing the heads off her dolls and drowning kittens for amusement.

  19. I tend to agree with Rebecca…this seems to be at least partially a case of rebellion against the received orthodoxy surrounding her. But hey, if rebelling against your elders now means getting informed about the world and deriding drug users, rather than spouting Marxism 101 and spraypainting anarchist messages on the nearest McDonald’s, cool.

And c’mon folks, don’t dwell on her vegetarianism…as long as she doesn’t firebomb chicken farms, who cares? To each their own, and all that.

  20. Did anyone else note that Peaches was required to write an email on the subject of making poverty history?

“I did email Gordon Brown about ‘making poverty history’ because I had to do it for class, and I never got a reply. I was quite sad.”

  23. Lets all kick Michael Moore in the nuts.

Growing up with a Dad like hers I’m not in the least bit suprised. Can you imagine the drivel that she’s had to listen to over the years? Her Mum wasn’t exactly Stable Jane either. Be thankful she isn’t a born again fascist
