WOMEN AND CHILDREN FIRST

Four people are under arrest following the London car bomb discoveries and subsequent Glasgow smashco fiasco:

A witness to the attack said on BBC television that one of the car’s occupants had been ablaze from head to foot, and as he struggled with the police, “was throwing punches and shouting ‘Allah, Allah.’ ”

We shouldn’t read too much in to this; the guy was on fire, after all. He could well have just been screaming, “AAAHHH! AAAHHH!”  like a common Presbyterian. The article, from the NYT, continues:

In July 2005, four suicide bombers killed 52 people on London’s transit system, and another set of attacks failed two weeks later, bringing home to Britain fears of homegrown terrorist attacks among its disenfranchised South Asian population. Witnesses said the two men in the Glasgow attack were South Asian.

The 2005 bombers weren’t “disenfranchised”. Dismantled, yes, after their suicide attacks; but franchise-wise, they were enfranchised right up to the level of Mercedes-Benz ownership. Speaking of which:

The alert began early Friday, when the two cars, Mercedes sedans, were found in the central West End theater and nightclub district ...

Sajjan M. Gohel, a security expert, said the police were pursuing a theory that the two car bombs had been designed to explode one after the other — the first to bring people into the street and the second to cause great loss of life. The fact that Thursday night at Tiger Tiger was ladies’ night, he said, recalled a conspiracy in 2004 in which British-born bombers said they wanted to attack women at a nightclub, whom they viewed as promiscuous, in conversations monitored by British intelligence.

And there’s this:

Saturday was the first full day of the school summer vacations; thousands of people were awaiting flights in Glasgow.

When it comes to mass murder, these chaps follow the old seafaring notion: women and children first. Scots weren’t about to stand for any Jeepish airport antics, according to witness Lynsey McBean:

“We saw a green Cherokee drive straight into the front door of the airport but it got jammed. They were obviously trying to get it farther inside the airport as the wheels were spinning and smoke was coming from them. One of the men, I think it was the driver, brought out a plastic petrol canister and poured it under the car. He then set light to it.

“At that point a policeman came over, the passenger got out of the car and punched him. At that point I began to run away. But when I looked back several people had run over to try and stop the men.”

Thus a difference between cultures is made clear. Now unburdened by office, Tony Blair makes a few points:

Tony Blair has launched a powerful attack on ‘absurd’ British Islamists who have nurtured a false ‘sense of grievance’ that they are being oppressed by Britain and the United States ...

‘The reason we are finding it hard to win this battle is that we’re not actually fighting it properly. We’re not actually standing up to these people and saying, “It’s not just your methods that are wrong, your ideas are absurd. Nobody is oppressing you. Your sense of grievance isn’t justified.”’

They’ll be aggrieved about that.

UPDATE. Further Glasgow fiasco details:

The driver had revved the engine but, unable to move any further, grabbed a can of petrol and poured it over himself and the flames beneath the vehicle.

“It was terrifying,” [witness James Stark] said. Onlookers hurled abuse at the two men as they were led away by police. They were later arrested.

The two men, that is, not the abusive onlookers. Well, so I assume; this is modern Britain we’re talking about here.

UPDATE II. A fifth goon has now been arrested. Also:

Britain’s Sky News and The Sun, Daily Express and Daily Telegraph newspapers reported that two of the men arrested were hospital doctors. Police refused to comment on the claim.

UPDATE III. Mark Steyn:

The next editor of Webster’s might like to include a new New York Times definition of “disenfranchised”: “complacent liberal assumption designed to reassure readers that they can fit this story into all the old cliches about the usual root causes”.

Another fanciful place is “East Asia.” There are no “East Asians,” though there are many Eastern Asians.

deprived of the rights of citizenship especially the right to vote; “labor was voiceless”; “disenfrenchised masses took to the streets”

Now how, exactly, were these two skells deprived of their rights to citizenship?  Hell, no one, other than the cops, know who these mutts are.  And that includes which country they are citizens of.  New York Times, thy name is crap.

  54. Fascinating op-ed about what life is really like in Saudi Arabia by a former hard-line radical Muslim.  Here’s an edited extract, rather long, but necessary to give the flavour:

I was repeatedly astounded at the stares Faye [the author’s wife] got from Saudi men and I from Saudi women. Faye was not immodest in her dress. Out of respect for local custom, she wore the long black abaya and covered her hair in a black scarf…Yet on two occasions she was accosted by passing Saudi youths from their cars. On another occasion a man pulled up beside our car and offered her his phone number. In supermarkets I only had to be away from Faye for five minutes and Saudi men would hiss or whisper obscenities as they walked past. When Faye discussed her experiences with local women at the British Council they said: “Welcome to Saudi Arabia.”...

After a month in Jeddah I heard from an Asian taxi driver about a Filipino worker who had brought his new bride to live with him in Jeddah. After visiting the Balad shopping district the couple caught a taxi home. Some way through their journey the Saudi driver complained that the car was not working properly and perhaps the man could help push it. The passenger obliged. Within seconds the Saudi driver had sped off with the man’s wife in his car and, months later, there was still no clue as to her whereabouts. We had heard stories of the abduction of women from taxis by sex-deprived Saudi youths.

Why had the veil and segregation not prevented such behaviour? My Saudi acquaintances, many of them university graduates, argued strongly that, on the contrary, it was the veil and other social norms that were responsible for such widespread sexual frustration among Saudi youth.

At work the British Council introduced free internet access for educational purposes. Within days the students had downloaded the most obscene pornography from sites banned in Saudi Arabia, but easily accessed via the British Council’s satellite connection. Segregation of the sexes, made worse by the veil, had spawned a culture of pent-up sexual frustration that expressed itself in the unhealthiest ways.

Using Bluetooth technology on mobile phones, strangers sent pornographic clips to one another. Many of the clips were recordings of homosexual acts between Saudis and many featured young Saudis in orgies in Lebanon and Egypt. The obsession with sex in Saudi Arabia had reached worrying levels: rape and abuse of both sexes occurred frequently, some cases even reaching the usually censored national press.

We’re not actually standing up to these people and saying, “It’s not just your methods that are wrong, your ideas are absurd. Nobody is oppressing you. Your sense of grievance isn’t justified.”’

Once again, Tony Blair demonstrates his incredible ignorance of Islam.
To describe the widely held Muslim feelings of grievance as absurd is itself absurd.
One might as well describe a shark as absurd for biting people.

‘Persecution is worse than slaughter”- or “persecution is worse than killing” (Al-Quran; 2:217) goes hand in hand with “fight them until persecution is no more, and all religion is for Allah. (2:193).
According the the Quran, Muslims slaughtering infidels for “Islamophobia” or hindering in any way the spread of Islam is fully justified.

According to Muslim logic, “persecution” would cover “Islamophobia” and hindering the spread of Islam by telling the truth about Islam or not converting to Islam or not allowing Islam to dominate.

Islam creates a way of thinking in its followers that truly is alien.

who is trying to take an easy way out of a difficult life while making himself seem courageous and successful.  Take away this sense of accomplishment and martyrdom from the Muslim community and the pool of losers would go down.  Well, okay, the pool remains the same, but the % of those willing to die while killing other innocent people would go down.

The battle to reform starts within the Muslim community itself.

  86. All joking aside, what really disturbs me is the fact that ill patients are put at risk by being treated by these Drs. We already have the case of Dt Patel killing his patients in Townsville- what was his religion? I would like to know- now.
There was a Kurdish Dr in Southern Iraq charged with murdering many of his patients- now they have destroyed whatever trust we have of ‘South Asian’ Drs, many who are good and decent men- I suppose that was the aim- create another victim situation of poor Drs not able to do their work.

It is amazing that so many Drs/paediatricians have taken up the call to Jihad- in Iran, Abu Mazen . many of the Egyptian ‘Muslim brotherhood’ and others whom I cannot recall at present- how can any man take up medicine and then seek to destroy life.

We need to be very very concerned and nurses in particular need to be very alert and observant when these Drs on duty. They are often on short term contracts and rotation so problems may not be realised or followed up correctly.

It’s like the ‘global’ part of this thing has been handed over to the amateurs and local Jihadi wannabe’s.

If I was running AQ, I’d be just keeping up the skeer thru terror while I was trying to take over another country.

Afghanistan and Somalia didn’t work out, Iraq is problematical, and many of the other Arab states are starting to worry about riding the tiger.

Did you know that the burning jihadi smelt like roast pork.  He we are again, another attempt by the morons of Islam to make some kind of statement.  During the Blitz on London something like 50000 bombs were dropped.  Islamists don’t realise what they are up against, if they think the spirit of western society is as fragile as their own.  These acts of evil stupidity will only frustrate said terrorists and lead them to more desperate measures if the so called moderates of Islam don’t stand up against their OWN problems. (Yes this vermin do it in the name of Islam) Through your mute responses to these atrocities you will be seen as complicit.

  132. Al-Qaeda smeats its match:

As thousands of Glaswegians queued, moaned and sneakily sipped Buckfast on a rainy Saturday afternoon, one man stood vigilant outside the airport terminal. Baggage supervisor, hero, smoker. John Smeaton.

Little did he know, as he happily dragged on his fag, that two crazed al-Qaeda operatives were preparing to meet their maker. But they didn’t meet their maker. Instead they met BAA’s answer to Jack Bauer.

As the Jeep’s engine revved and the passenger started chucking the petrol containers out the windows like he was Santa in Shettleston, one man stepped in to help The Law take control.

The site is also collecting pledges to buy him 1000 pints.  Hmm.

(via Mr Eugenides who tells us the two wannabes will also be charged under Scotland’s tough anti-smoking laws. Heh. (yes that part’s a joke))
